The Nintendo DS thread v.2

If anybody wants something quick, fun and addicting to play, I suggest N plus.

I fancy myself to Cannoneers and Fusiliers. Long range shooters, got some nice debuffs/buffs. I like the Time Mage for Hasteaga, but other than that, I usually give them high magic as their extra skill for the Curaga and damage spells.

Ninja’s with Dual Wield own.

I have a reason to buy DS games again. I haven’t bought one since FFIV. Then before that was TWEWY

I bought Unemployed Ninja 2 but it sucked so I returned it.

These with the new Dragon Quest coming out = Stu being a happy RPG fan boy.

This is what i’m doing with my part:

I’ve got a Paladin w/ the sequencer sword. The Sequencer sword is what’s important here because it gains attack points simply by being in battle. So the potential to have a ridiculous attack is there. Also, w/ Paladin I can equip some god tier armor.

I’ve got a hunter I believe, or whatever, that has a double shot bow attack. She is awesome and fun.

I’ve got a summoner, which is cool because I have MP Efficiency that reduces the cost of MP tricks.

I’ve got a Black Mage that I love, but from what I understand is a weak class…

I’ve got a red mage/ elementalist w/ blood price and double cast. Lethal.

And i’m developing my blue mage to be a motherfuc### beast!

Of course there are other cool stuff to combine, but the idea I believe is to constantly learn shit and switch jobs to move up.

Beat The World Ends With You, today dragon quest 4 needs to be out right now or im going to give someone a ass ram

Is Fire Emblem DS going to come to the US?

There should be one.

Still, you’ve got your power and support at a good balance, Lock II, but you should also worry about your secondary skills, too. Probably you didn’t list them, but it’s cool. Each character can carry two types of complete A-Skill Sets(A-Abilities such as Black Magic and Blue Magic) and two secondary skills(Support,Counter such as Unscarred and Counter). Elementalist can be stronger. For instance, a magickal Viera:

A good set up for her:
Primary: Elementalist A-Ability
Secondary: Red Mage A-Ability
Counter: Return Magic(if you can find it)
Support: Turbo MP

Red Magic gives you Doublespell/cast. It’s only a one man pain inflicter if you use a Elementalist spell. You can split up the attack if you’re looking to get in more pain. Turbo MP uses more MP, but if you can get a Cannoneer to use Potion Shot at her, she should be able to get a good 60MP+ on the first turn and have a good way to recharge for those attacks. Personally, I focus on AOE Pain more times than slowing the enemy down, so I would use a Summoner instead of an Ele. She gets to hit a certain area quicker if the Cannoneer gets an earlier turn. Casting Shiva twice against some odd Bombs == pain.

If she isn’t going to get into the frontlines or any sort of trouble, I would replace Return with Absorb MP, even though it sucks.

As for the list: it’d be hard to tier ALL combos of classes. 50+ classes plus 10 or so variants.

Magick wise(no spell blade crap):

  • Summoner with Red Magick would be the highest. Already explained. Then, you add Blood Price to get the jump on the enemy. This provides instant access to your spell list. Dirty dozens indeed.

  • Seer would be lowest teir, yet that is debatable. Still, if his attack is any good, Seer can get away with being that and a Illusionalist because Magick Frenzy will hit every single opposing character. If he has Doublesword support, he can hit everyone thrice. The Rods will damper the physical performance, though, making Magick Frenzy more reliant on the Intelligence than the Physical attack stat. Seer’s High Magick A-Abilities are mostly 2nd level. Means that if I want to use Firaga in Magick Frenzy, I would need to have Black Magick as my second or first array of A-Abilities equipped.

  • Scholar isn’t all that great and is as ridiculous as the Gadgeteer. He hits everyone regardless. He can complete some quests, so I’d keep him around.

  • Still, Nu Mous have a good grasp of the magick classes, so I’d go with Sage and Alcemist to being somewhere mid.

  • Time Mage has alot of useful debuffs, too. Especially a Stop. Nothing can cure that. Extend will help with buffs and effects. High.

  • Illusionists hit everyone in sight. Still, they have good stats. Mid

  • The color mages do the work, but they are limited. They mostly have a 5 limit AOE for spells. Curaga and Turbo MP gets White Mage to stand out, yet Blue Mage is an array of tricks in itself. Learning different A-Abilities inorder to stay to stay on top of the other mages is good and worth the purchase, but the fact that learning a spell is random with him, makes the Blue Mage a bit of a wary purchase. These are all mid at best. Blue Mage could be somewhat high.

Green Mage has a bunch of effect a-abilities under her belt. She could be mid-low.

Red Mage is only good with a secondary list of spells, from another class, to back it up. Doublespell needs love, too.

  • Geo Mage is low.

  • Elementalists feel as if they are a poor-man’s version of the Blue Mage class, focusing on debuffing. So they’d be low.

yep…think I did well for the first.

I didn’t do a tier list but I did do a write up of all the useful combinations: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=5418637&postcount=3281

It damn well better, they have released all the other FEs since the second GBA over here.

In other SRPG news…

New Shining Force on guess what?

drools

Too bad it’s not the SF III Senario ports. Which team’s tinkering on it?

Ahhhh Shining Force. They also need to make a Warsong/Langrisser on the DS. That would round up things nicely.

They actually need to make a good version of Secret of Mana. All the current DS iterations suck.

So apparently, Chrono Trigger DS is gonna be $40.

Starting now, I will no longer buy a Square Enix game on the DS. It’s one thing to charge extra for your games when other DS games range from $20-$30, but charging $40 for a near port of the PS1 game (CTDS has the anime cutscenes) is ridiculous. This must be why SE isn’t considering putting their games out on the Virtual Console.

How many of you guys are actually considering buying CTDS?

Me. I can easily see myself getting a copy of this.

You do know they charge $40 for almost all of their games, right?

Here’s a post from NeoGAF with some of the screens and a link to the site.

Actually you might wanna flip that, Elementalist growth outside magic is mediocre. The ability debuffs are very useful yeah, but Red Mage growth is better rounded to main off of. You wanna main off of Red Mage, and have Elementalist support in the second A-ability. Same goes with Summoner, though with Viera that’s the best class for Magic growth. You might wanna alternate between Lving as both for the best results come Lv99. Blood Price or Halve MP would work on both also, but I prefer Blood Price.

Illusionist are pretty bad Bear. Attacking all enemies is nice in all, but the damage is kinda low and the MP cost is ridiculously high. Halve MP is practically a must-have on them, and outside magic their growths leave a lot to be desired. The Sage/Black Mage combo exploits a lot of monster weaknesses, and the Alchemist/Sage combo is pretty good as well. Alchemist have the highest magic growth for Nu Mou, so you almost have to level up as one anyway. Time Mage/Arcanist is ok, I prefer Time Mage Lv. growth over Illusionist, and definately Arcanist.

The Tinker’s Lv growth is too good, the abilities are bad though so don’t mess with them. Don’t expect a lot outta moggles anyway execpt for something like Fusiler with Ultima Charge. A Sniper/SpellBlade is dangerous, the abilities are usually:

A - Sharpshoot
A - Blade Arts
R - Auto-Regen
S - Turbo MP

Since Sniper have the Highest Atk growth for Viera, abuse this shit. It takes like 200-400 off the back every time, you don’t have to worry about MP cost so much since Double Shot got boosted in FFTA2.

Magick Frenzy is the only thing you’ll need from a Seer, not unless you need more spells like Fira. And SpellBlade for Blood Price, don’t Lv up constantly in any of these classes. Especially Spellblade, the growths are bad. Focus on mastering spells only.

Any difference between this and the N freeware game for PC?

Uhhh there’s co-op play.

Other than that, just different levels. It’s basically a straight port with a few graphics tweeks. Oh and bad music that I turn off. N on the go is always a good thing

I know, but there’s no explanation for it, and now they expect us to spend $40 for a game that’s basically unchanged except for some touch screen controls. At this point, CT might as well be on the virtual Console.

wow, so apparently fucking DQ9 will not be shown at TGS. is this game ever coming out? seriously wtf is going on with it. i’m really over square so i don’t give that much of a shit but i’m still looking forward to dq and valkyrie profile on the DS.

speaking of valkyrie profile, that’s october 30th, right after castlevania and ketsui come out. holy shit am i gonna be a hermit for awhile.
