The Nintendo DS thread v.2

I’m not liking Bangai-O (And I own and enjoyed the original till my DC said fuck you). Maybe once I get used to the almost brand new style of play I will. Right now it feels like a lot to wrap my head around. All the different weapons and methods of attack seem a bit daunting right now. I think we could have done without the Pierce and Napalm shots though. Napalm effects could have been combined with Homing and Pierce with Reflect. I’m digging the sword and shoulder ramming enemies though.

Just got Bangai-O Spirits today, man this game ROCKS. Hard as hell but fun. How many tries did it take everyone to finish Tutorial 17? Took me like 3 before I finally slowed down and played carefully

I kinda agree that napalm doesn’t seem all that great on it’s own, but it’d probably be better in conjuction with like the bat or some other combo. Also remember that you can de-link two types that mix so that can help as well.

Peirce on the other hand is freaking awesome IMO

Mind you I didn’t every play Bangai-O that much if that’s all your’e comparing too.

Yeah. On it’s on Bangai-O Spirits… I’d gush over but I played about half of the original before my DC crapped out. And my DC made the game buggy graphically and I still loved it so…

I mean the main issue is the controls. The old game, you could just shoot in any direction with the four face buttons. Here you have to pull that Gunstar Super Heroes bs with double taps and holds and what not.

And yeah, it tooks me a few tries to beat the tutorial. You depend on your EX attack more in this game then you did in Bangai-O. Here it’s like your main strategy almost.

yeah it’s true, use abuse your EX setup ALOT. But it’s not like there’s no strategy or skill, you still need to equip the right stuff for the levels, use them well n shit.

Also napalm fucking OWNS those stupid ass ninja mechs.

can someone please explain the finer points of bangai-o to me? i just played like the first 10 just mashed on y and r…

  • Travis: does Luso’s teacher’s name sound familar to you?

  • yeah, got them both there. Frenzy is awesome with a strong character. Too bad Paladins can’t use Illusionist spells to go with that Frenzy sauce. Then you’d have to ask the question of which support ability is more beneficial with this action ability: Turbo MP, Attack+, or Double Sword? Personally, I’d choose Turbo MP for a Illusionist, and Double Sword for a painful paladin.

  • The Heritor class gives Adelle some good Movement ability, but she gets this later on in the game. It’s quite an advantage because it allows her to equip nearly every single weapon in the game. The downside is that the abilities are similar to most of the games. Viola and Lennart are the most useful of the attack array.

  • If Seeq had a defense based class, they would surpass Bangaa. The Ranger class has good set-up possibilities, tough. Viking + Ranger is quite deadly. Depends on how you use them.

Grias are just faster bitches with less to use compared to the other races that are more established in Ivalice. And also, you get them late in the game anyway. Moogles are still good for random support. Hurdy cannot become a Chocobo Knight, and Bard is weak. Still, his punishment towards zombies can be equaled or beaten by a well-tuned white mage.

  • Indeed it is. I just started FE too. What’s your FC on it?

Bangai-O really requires you to pick the right weapons for each level. A lot of times if you’re stuck go back and try it with different weapons. I do miss the old controls, but I guess that’s the sacrifice you make for added complexity.

I’m stuck on the level where you have to get under all of the falling boxes. Anyone get there yet?

Lol dude we can be at the level you are one whenever we want to. What number is it and in what section?

After giving the game a second go while taking a shit this morning, it all finally clicked. I do agree with IGN on the unstructured play. They should have had ya know, fifty or so ‘story’ levels and then 100 extra levels and the edit mode. There is no difficulty curve, you just play. And for everyone who’s not hardcore this is going to be a problem. I mean, at least with Megaman Powered Up on PSP you and your friends could rate the difficulty of levels and add descriptions.

So I rank it next to Gunstar Super Heroes. Which I rank below the original Gunstar Heroes. These quasi remakes/sequels aren’t bad but they muck with the formula a lot and you get all this added complex malarkey. Treasure’s best game on a handheld to date is Bleach imo.

I hope that Treasure wises up some more and releases Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes, and Bangai-O (DC) to PSN/Live. People need to play the games the inspired the remakquels.

OK so my bro managed to unlock more games in R. Tengoku Gold and explained how he unlocked them :stuck_out_tongue:

…still playing World Ends With You & I need to check out that Bangai-O Spirits, looks sick.

When is this Commando: Steel Disaster coming out? I don’t believe them.

omg I actually took a picture of that stage coz it’s so dumb…

I ended up skipping it… I spent way much time being perplexed by it only to fail

 @ this Metal Slug rip off. Oh well… at least the character can roll.

Hey, if it plays well will you give a shit that it is a rip-off?

bangai o is awesome

bangai o in english = HAPPY SHOO

ill get it tonight

  • …I still would give a shit. My loyalty to SNK never dies. Look at that animation. Sad to say but it looks like that’s all they did: copy and rip sprites for their own damn game. The programmign may be different, but it’s the same game. I’m suprised SNKP didn’t come after them for that. And look at him: he can roll. So what?! Ralf Jones survives nukes. Clarke has sunglasses. Fio is probably jailbait. Rip-off company want a frozen treat for that? They can eat my shit-sicle for that there.

  • Anyway, I’m scared to try online mode for Fire Emblem DS. Japanese kids will eat me.

:sad:She’s prolly the cutest jailbait ever then.

Fio is in her early twenties. She’s legal, but in all likelihood, she’s taken. It’s implied that Marco is hittin’ that.

Thank you.

A rip off of this magnitude will always be a damn rip off.

What exactly is Bangai-o spirits? Is it like a shootemup or is it more puzzle style? Deciding between that or Fire Emblem (never played one but I liked Advance Wars).

Just watched the trailer, that’s no rip-off, that’s a cheap 3rd-world imitation. Less frames of animation, less detailed EVERYTHING, super low-budget trailer. Yeah, can’t say I’m too hyped about this. Although I shouldn’t expect anything more from XS games, the company most famous for butchering the Shikigami no Shiro games, and whose policy is also to make it look like they developed every game they release (when all of them are licensed properties).
