Since there’s a lot of discussion regarding VF5:R, its relationship to VF4:Evo, and the sales figures for Evo in the US, I thought I’d bring up a reminder: PS3 can play Japanese games out of the box. In other words, it just comes down to whether or not Sega releases it on PS3 or 360 (or both) since you can always import it. As for 360, I don’t know the situation with that.
You don’t have to get a 360, it just has the latest version of VF5. If you can get it, that’s great, but if not the PS3 version works just fine. I think the only changes to Pai in Ver. C were toning down one of her cartwheel type moves and some frame changes.
I’d recommend the 360 for VF5, unless you have a good local arcade scene, and I’m guessing you don’t. If you don’t, Online play in Player matches are the best option- Ranked tends to have a lot of scrubby play at low levels that won’t teach you anything at all.
The AI in VF5 is dreadful, Evo’s AI was a lot better. Also 360 is Ver C, while PS3 vers is vers B, but PS3 is more likely to get R (I think both will get it though)
I think there will be some casual VF5 at FRXI.

i finally decided to play virtua fighter 5 after seeing the hype for so long, and i went to the nearby arcade and sat down and saw a bunch of pirate-themed bullshit on it. what the fuck is this? it looked like some really shitty homebrew hack, but there was a promo poster on the arcade door and everything… made me really not want to play it again ever.
That’s just character customization. You don’t have to have it. The Jeff I used for the longest time looked like an Angry Ben Wallace…
In other words, you have choices on your customization- the game hasn’t turned into Paul Burchill and his merry Wenches-fest…

Pat, that ad is for version D and the pirate theme has nothing to do with gameplay. they just picked three characters and picked some items to make em look like pirates. Like I said VF players love their crazy items. Kotaku is just wrong as always with their choice of words ‘pirate fighting.’
knockout trial is a single player mode, if you beat it you get costume E (wich is not a pirate costume). And open battle is a new way of having tournaments.
The new thongs for the VF5 characters are tight.

I was about to get Virtua Fighter 5, but now with VF5:R announced, I’m gonna have to wait. Just in case they release it VF4:evo style.
