The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

The tiers are just based off of what lands more and the damage as a result from it, aswell as the safety of certain moves if guarded against.

For example Jacky and Sarah.

Jacky and Sarah’s 6P both start in 14 frames but Jacky’s does 1 more point of damage than Sarah’s and his has much more range and is more likely to reach and hit because of this(and also be safer because it can be ranged further out). However all of Jacky’s initial followups from 6P hit high, so you can crouch under them, where as Sarah has one of her followups that hits special mid.

On priority rules Jacky’s 6P would beat Sarah’s 6P if they were both done at the sametime though because his does 1 more point of damage.

Now looking at both Jacky and Sarah’s 33K, again Jacky’s does 1 more point of damage so if both done at the sametime up close Jacky’s would win. However, Sarah’s has much much more range and the combos she can do from it are much more useful and have much much more range aswell and should also be able to do much more damage if done on the same weight classes.

Now considering all of this though, 6P is definitely more likely to land in a match than 33K, this is because 6P is a 14 frame attack and 33K is a 17 frame attack.

6P is also less risky and it more likely to come up earlier in a flowchart.

What’s cool though is that Sarah has a 10 frame jab, while Jacky has an 11 frame jab. So she can start up a flowchart faster than he can.

IMO this is a small example of how the tiers work. Someone that knows more about VF please correct me if I’m wrong on something?

He’s got some pretty low risk attacks that lead to big damage and add to the fact that he’s extremely confusing to fight.

I personally don’t know that much about lei fei, so I could be wrong. It’s just my experience from fighting him. Against a good lei fei I can’t even throw out a punch or I get countered.

Lei-fei is S class because his sabakis can be incredibly powerful in the hands of someone who knows how to get between stances as fast as possible. I’ve also heard he has the safest launchers in the game, though I couldn’t tell you why. Confusing doesn’t really have anything to do with it… the tiers are only meant to describe the highest levels of play, where both opponents should know all the moves inside and out.

Slide has the right idea about tiers… though I doubt examples that fine-grained played a huge role in making the overall list. The tiers are basically a general assessment of how much damage a character can generate while opening themselves to the least risk of punishment. There’s also some considerations like how often positioning can put a character at disadvantage. For example, El Blaze is supposedly low tier because he’s very strong up close, but too weak at long range, so people can beat him easily by running away a lot, but again, I’m not sure of the specifics of why that’s the case.

Good stuff in general, but Lei Fei actually has three throw directions (other than neutral): forward, down-forward, and back.

Also, damn you Andy for posting those vids on here! You know I played like ass. :arazz:

you might want to start at page one

Don’t get me wrong I know that being confusing has nothing to do with the tiers, but you pretty much enforced what I was gonna say next. The fact that he can get in and out of stances into counters or sabakis is what’s dangerous. That confuses me and I don’t even know when to attack. I usually use p and 6p when I’m at advantage and both of those get beat up by lei fei. I think I only have a couple of kick attacks that aren’t susceptible to his counter.

Wow, lots of new faces in this thread. Glad to see it.

As far as launcher’s if lei is in mid range bokutai stance into p+k is buff as fuck. It punishes so many whiffs and is safe on block.

Thanks for the correction, I always forget about forward, back throw. Also, I lied earlier. i don’t know what I was thinking. If you try to interrupt leis normal stance PPP you eat that third punch everytime. Lei is my main, but I’m still learning VF5.

Who let this get to the bottom of the first page? Come on ya’ll…this is VF5! Reminds me of the old Saturn days playing this again. This is by far the best fighting game on the 360. I’ve only been playing it for 2 days and am lovin it. I was almost just playing 3rd Strike until I finally decided to settle down with buying a 360. Definitely glad I did though because this game looks amazing on my HDTV and is probably the first fighting game that’s really made me feel good about being a fighting game player again. It’s just a really good game and it definitely doesn’t get the play it deserves for such a good game.

I really like DOA4 too but of course everyone hates on that game so…yeah.

^With DoA4, it seems super tight at first, imo, then you begin to see why it is people have valid complaints. I have a friend who loves the DoA series but he’s the first to admit it has severe problems holding it back.
Maybe one day they’ll fix those issues and it will emerge as a great fighter that isn’t so hated on.

Yeah…people have always hated on the counter system among other things. The countering is like 3S parrying except even crazier. Nothing is ever really guaranteed until the opponent is knocked up in the air in most situations. At least in 3rd Strike once you get a hit in…any combo that you put together (unless it’s a reset) is guaranteed. In DOA4…there are only a few situations where even connecting a combo string on someone is guaranteed. In general it’s really tough to guarantee a true advantage over the opponent.

The game is a race to get the opponent up in the air before they counter you basically. Either that or force them to choke up a hold or get defensive so you throw them. Which brings up another issue. Every throw except regular throws are inescapable once they are active. Meaning it’s real easy for a character like Hayabusa to abuse the hell out of his very powerful Izuna Drop throw. Once he grabs you you can’t escape and if you did a counter hold…GG’s.

There’s just a lot of random ass mind games and stuff that hardcore players scoff at. I’m sure there’s other reasons but I mentioned a couple of the bigger reasons. I just like it cuz it’s fun to play and fast paced. I hear the guys that play in the DirecTV championships make decent money but…it’s not worth the lack of a serious offline scene to me. I just like the game cuz it’s fun to press buttons in.

are there any deals/bundles online selling Virtua Fighter 5 + the hori stick for 360?

I’m just looking for a decent price on the stick itself.

Just got my copy of the game today and messed around in Dojo for a while to see which character I felt most comfortable with; after a while I’ve come down to Goh. I really like how he plays, the speed of his attacks (I guess I prefer slower attacks), and I like all the grabs he has and what not. Sadly though, I am having a really hard time doing some of the moves on the standard 360 controller so I’ll probably have to invest in the arcade stick for the 360.

Awesome, another SC VF player.

Damn, I haven’t played in about 3 weeks, my Brad is probably complete garbage by now. Anyone up for some training tonight?

Started playing last night, having a ball with ranked/unranked online play. It works great.

Only problem is today I’m having a hard time finding any matches at all for some reason, I don’t think its my connection but theres something up. This whole country can’t not have one person trying to play VF5 online like me. Maybe Xbox live is screwed up, or is it just me?

xbl is gay these days

I am having the same problems as well. Can’t connect to anyone at all.

any luck?

It’s Live guys, Live has been mucked for the past few weeks. Rumor has it MS is hooking us all up with a “free” XBLArcade game as compensation.
