The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

LP is king online.

Haven’t played on Live in a while; been messing around offline instead. I usually would use Jacky, but for some reason, I felt like mixing things up, so I’m trying to pick up Brad. Both are really fun characters for me, both are really good in their striking/offense game (a big yes for me), and I can’t see myself dropping one for another (unless I’m forced to).

EDIT: Now I’m trying out Lau for some reason (I guess because it’s so easy to do damage with him and rush down). It’ll probably be a while before I make up my mind on who I’m gonna main/not main.

Blaze’s U P+K is even better, even in lag. I’ve lost to some retarded shit but it’s usually my dumbass rushing shit and getting impatiant.

I finally have someone to play who knows what he’s doing! :woot: It’s offline of course, but who cares?! He does some crazy shit with Shun Di and Pai. I can finally try shit out and train somebody to do what I want to him.

2P and P are kinda tough to get around when he gets defensive. But God Bless Lau’s 6P+K. It cuts through that shit like a knife. And with a combo going off of it, it makes me train him to block.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be that way when I pick Sarah. Man… what is up with her P+K? It doesn’t cut through anything like it used to. I used to use it right after 6P,P connected/was blocked. But now, even if it’s blocked OR connects, it won’t eat any jabs/2Ps. It doesn’t leave me with that many great options to stop Pai from Ping me to death and staying on the offensive.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Are Pai’s jabs the fastest in the game?

How is the online in this game?

The netcode is pretty good so lag is minimal… but holy hell does this game suck in a laggy connection.

VF5 Rank Battle Online

Just a heads up if anyone is interested. Please reply to the thread below

Just got VF5(on 360 of course) as today and wondering if anyone can give some tips, first off I’m new to VF but I can read the notation, I’m playing as Jacky, but I also think Eileen and Vanessa are cool. I’m concentrating on playing as Jacky right now, so if I can get some sort of idea where to start it would be much appreciated.

Don’t get frustrated, practice the ‘boring basics’, annnnd just get use to the movement in general would be my first initial tips.

http://virtuafighter.com/wiki/doku.php?id=vf5:system real good site to read up on the system basics and advanced stuff.

Also, you’ve got some real good players in NY, not sure how relative to Queens, but definitely some good players there. If anything, good connections online for you as well.

Most of all, enjoy it. Game’s dope.

Just got VF5 for Xmas and would like to get some scrub matches going. I play Goh and El Blaze.

GT: Xdeathsrk

I would recommend using Vanessa because you have A LOT of options with her and she has a lot of moves that you can use overall. Her learning curve is a little steep though, but once you get the hang of it you can do a lot of deadly things with her.
Master the art of the sidestep, in VF5 if you side step at the correct time of a player’s attack you will do a big side step that will make you evade the attack completely. Also learn when to use Offensive move ( sidestep then right after the input up or down press L2 ) it can get you around your opponent quickly leaving you to launch and juggle the hell out of them. Free combo !
LEARN TO THROW !! It is crucial in VF5. Getting out of throws is a little tougher than Tekken and sometimes there are no frames for throws and they will just happen if you use them at the right time. Using the right kind of throws will obliterate your opponent ( see Wolf, lol ).

Quest mode is getting very annoying. I am 50% complete and still have long ways to go. The AI is pissing me off evading every 2 seconds.

Circular and Half-circular attacks.

I didn’t even know the AI did anything…

Yeah, seriously?

I played Lion in my sleep to beat it 100% in quest mode. You can simply jab/jab/jab against everybody up to maybe 10th Dan, and if they get any smarter, simply:

  • match-open dash or jump back (only time CPU will beat you down is right now)
  • distant whiffing jab attack followed by down K,K (the stupid low kicks)
  • follow up the knockdown if you want
But jab/jab/jab owns 90% of it for free. It’s not difficult at all on normal, it’s just stupidly time-consuming. I wasn’t even paying attention half the time (bring a book… several long books…) and managed to get perfects 1/3 of the time. Such a horrible game mode. (Hint to designers: decrease quantity by 1000 matches, increase quality.)

The trick to beating long play AI sequences is just to recognize the AI holes. The above (not blocking jab/jab/jab until 6th Dan or above, the whiffed punch screwing up AI blocking) is just recognition of basic guard problems the AI has. You can certainly take a more complicated route if you want, but – the above should be the quickest way. If you’re playing somebody else, I’d suggest finding their quickest attacks and mashing on those until the CPU starts blocking, which will be about 800 matches in. If that doesn’t work, do a whiffing punch followed by low hits. shrug =\ I blocked maybe twice the entire time, paid actual attention to maybe four matches total (only if they beat me a round…), and lost maybe five times. It’s cool to unlock stuff, but it’s a bad game mode. =\

To combat the lameness of the AI, does turning up the difficulty to hard or expert help?

Maybe that is where the challenge hides?

Imagine if you will, playing 1400 matches against the CPU.

Let’s just take one sample match:

  • save your progress if you’re ever outside of the arcade (15 seconds)
  • go to arcade (5 seconds)
  • check for needed challengers, leave arcade if needed - which resets the challengers available list (5 seconds)
  • fight somebody:
    ** load screen (20 seconds)
    ** pre-match taunts (20 seconds, skippable)
    ** actual fight (90 seconds)
** post-fight replays and taunts (80 seconds, skippable)
** new load screen: unavoidable, if it’s to somebody you’ve already fought, you’ve just wasted at least 20 seconds, cancel out of the match as soon as you can, go back to the arcade and begin the cycle anew.

Now repeat that 1399 times. You could turn up the AI if you want to, but you’re going to be doing this ~300 times just to level up 100% (plus you’ll need to hit all the tourneys, where you’ll have to fight people again), so it’s not like you’ve got a lot of time to dawdle if you want to finish this under 100 hours.

Seriously, if you bother to go through this on Expert, I hope your character gets to be gold-plated and they send you a free t-shirt, because you have an amazing endurance for the game.

Maybe turn up the AI for the final 20 matches or so? Totally up to you, I’m just not emotionally invested enough to think it’s worthwhile to sweat out 1400 matches.

Mainly, I ask to know if the hard or expert AI is worth playing against. I plan to clear the quest on normal and possibly then turn up the difficulty for general play. An addendum to that, not having much varied competition (no live yet) I would like to find a way to have decent practice.

Definitely though, I hate having to fight the 1400 plus matches to get everything.

Went through it on expert, didn’t get any of the said above

The AI is whack, but expert AI is better than 70% of the stuff you’ll encounter online. Imo. It’s not really a good learning tool for much of the basics, but it can help with some I guess.

Ah, thanks. Maybe I can learn enough through playing on expert. Hopefully I can get live and find good players to learn from.
