The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

Hey just quick question here. Wondering if VF5 has lag on HDTV’s? I’m not totally up to date on PS3 and HDTV issues but I guess that this is one of the few games where it matters. Thanks!

EDIT: I know that the 360 has Ver. C and PS3 has Ver. B. Does it make a huge difference like at the tournament level? Even in casuals?

^ Zero lag on HDTVS. It’s made for them. Looks gorgeous on them too, wish I had one haha.

Version B and C on consoles won’t matter much on casual levels. In tournament, you might miss out on some combo opportunities or not be able to hit a combo you once could. But the changes are fairly minimum and not very drastic.

I agree 93% with both oldboy and UnCauzi btw.

Thanks for the reply! BTW, I’m new to VF5 and the reason that I’m interested is its focus on gameplay and also its relative simplicity. I don’t mean simple in the sense that it’s easy; rather that it’s straightforward and doesn’t really throw in a lot of flashy extras or eye-candy (though it does look good on HDTV’s like you said).

BTW, do you know if importing VF5 from Japan now or in the future (unreleased version) will have Ver. C?

The 360 version that is out right now is Version C. As for Version D and Evo, only speculation as to which system (if at all) it will be released on.

Thanks for clarifying. BTW, is Ver. C out in Japan on PS3? I think PS3 has region-free compatability.

GG Slide, your Sarah is mean :o

Negatory. Only XBOX360 atm for Version C world-wide.

Some Quick Guides!

Another way to unlock things other than the ballon trick. Props to RayBlade!

A cool Throw Escape guide for those having problems and are too lazy to memorize EVEYONE’S throw list . Props to Yuupa

Notation : n=neutral(P+G) b=back f=foward yadda yadda

**From the end of the throw escape guide:

==============================================
technique for entering multiple throw escapes

A good technique for entering in multiple throw escapes is to make
a half circle motion with the joystick and tap P+G at the appropriate
directions. A common pattern emerges: f+P+G,df+P+G,b+P+G. As noted
above, it will work against 11 of the 18 characters, and Sarah is the
mirrored motion b+P+G,db+P+G,f+P+G. A further refinement is to
classify the characters as HCF or HCB. You want to start your throw
escape attempts at the most popular direction, f or b.

I advise using the below inputs when trying to escape multiple throws.

HCF:
b,df,f: Lion, Jacky, Brad
b,d,f: Kage, Pai, DS Vanessa

HCB:
f,df,b: Wolf, Jeff, El Blaze, Goh, Aoi, Lau, Lei, OS Vanessa
f,db,b: Sarah
f,df,d: Akira (quarter circle down)

b,n,f: Shun, Eileen

Instead of making a half circle motion for Shun and Eileen, I
suggest moving the joystick straight across the horizontal:
b+P+G,n+P+G,f+P+G.

Another advantage of this technique is that you can almost
completely deny some characters from throwing you.

b,df,f: denies Lion and Jacky of all but their n+P+G throw
f,df,b: denies Lei Fei and OS Vanessa of all but their n+P+G throw
f,db,b: denies Sarah of all but her n+P+G throw
b,df,f: denies Shun and Eileen of all their direction throws, but as
stated above, Shun and Eileen are the most likely opponents
to use their n+P+G throws **

On the looks discussion. I’ve always dug the designs in VF. I like the minamilist(sp) character designs.

I can see VF5:EVO going to BOTH systems BOTH having online play this time. But it’s so far off it’s not even worth discussing, imo.

If that works consistently I’ll eat my hat.

Sega has not announced an arcade release date for Virtua Fighter 5: Evolution, but it’s safe to assume that it will probably be mid to late 2008. Assuming that is true, expect a home port of VF5: Evo (most likely a simultaneous PS3/360 release) in late 2008 or early 2009.

If Evo hits around that time- 2009 could be one of the most glorious times for FG’s in years, with SFIV, KOFXII also slated around that time for console release.

Evo 2009 might be really something to look forward to if all goes right.

Hey guys. Quick question again. I haven’t picked up the game yet, but I’ve been doing some research.

I’m trying to grasp this concept of moving in eight (and also nine) directions. I’ve played a lot of Tekken, so I can grasp moving in four directions and how it affects the game engine. But how does this work for VF5? Suppose you move :ub: or :df:? What properties do you obtain and what can the opponent do to you from rest or from switching to a different direction?

You can’t actually move in diagonal directions, per se. Diagonals are used for attacks, crouch dashing, and jumping, but you don’t actually travel in that exact direction.

Thanks for clarifying. I was reading the wiki over at vf.com (http://virtuafighter.com/wiki/doku.php?id=vf5:system_part_1#movement) and I guess that either I got confused or that it was misleading.

Well, in the ARM, or All Range Movement, you can move in a diagonal fashion, but you can’t just get to that motion immediately by hitting a diagonal.

Try holding back or forward, then rotate the stick to a diagonal position. This isn’t really recommended, but I have walked around in ARM as Jacky to mess with people lol.

That’s what I’m wondering. What are the properties when you are in a diagonal position? Can the opponent hit you if they’re facing forward? Can they only hit you with their limbs that face in your direction? Do they have to move in the opposing angle?

Sorry if I keep pressing the issue, but it’s something new/interesting that I want to grasp.

I don’t know for sure but I’m pretty sure all linear attacks will still hit you even if you’re moving in a diagonal fashion like this.

ARM is good for sneaking out of someone’s range then punishing with a poke. Works good with chars like Jacky, Vanessa, and Eileen. Not so much with heavier chars like Akira though.

Heh, forgot about ARM. My bad.

only issue I have is with dm then 33 p+k with wolf but then again I only have that issue online
