The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

In America, our last best hope for fighting games is XBL online play I think. So I don’t care what happens in arcades any more.

Glad last night I was able to pick up a dinky combo from playing another Jeff. Has helped my game out a lot. I don’t need the knee to do big damage.

So, I just got my hori stick, and while I am enjoying it, its like I have to learn the game all over again, sure, my joystick input are almost always correct, but now my buttons seem to be giving me troubles. I’ve never been an arcade stick user, just relied on my thumb and buttons binded to the shoulder triggers, So this is a whole new experience. I plan to stick with it, and play all of my future fighting games with the stick, since stick play is said to be much more precise than pad.

So for the people that have made the jump from pad to stick, is there any tips that can help speed up the process other than put in the time and work on my muscle memory?

go to the command training, and just input the moves as much as possible.

Get the trailer for the upcoming Version D!

New items, new modes, new quotes, and new entries.

And freakin… weapons!!! WTF lol :looney:

^^Holy shit @ that costume at 0:14!!

I can’t understand the stuff written about it on that page but from the video I’m assuming that
the items you buy for your character will effect their win poses (and probably intro). If you look at the split screen thing at 0:15 shun appears to be taking off a mask, aoi and eillen are using weapons and jacky is drinking. I reckon all of those things are just costume items that give you a different win pose. Though I’m not certain, I think actual weapons being included in gameplay would be too huge of an addition at this point.

It’s awesome that VF gets such support in japan. I really, really hope all of this stuff becomes DLC for the 360 version. I was so hyped when I watched that video and I’ll be gutted if I never get to use any of that stuff :frowning:

thanks for the link dude

Aside from just the moves, I would really get used to the dashing and crouch dashing. Something that was really hard with a pad. You can now also work your rising from crouch dash moves. I don’t know who your main is but for instance, Pai’s crouch dash to forward p does her scoop and launches for combos. Most of the characters have have great moves from their dashes. Practice normal dashes for mid range in and out games.

Evades should come a lot easier on the stick as well so I would start practicing those. It takes about a week to make the trasition but it is so worth it once you get used to it.

Little tip however. If you plan on playing ST HDR, the hori stick sucks for SF. At least for me, VF sticks always have. You might need to invest in a true SF stick for ST HRD and SFIV. Which may be excessive and wouldn’t be terrible for your game if you don’t but SF inputs are much less of a tap game, the Hori stick is just not right for it IMO.

^^just put an octagnal gate in there and it’ll be fine. I’ve had no problems using my EX2 stick with 3s and turbo on the 360. Unfortunately I might have to get myself another one just so I can have one for vf5 (with regular gate) and one for STHD (with an octagnal gate)

I’ve been trying to get use to my stick from years of pads since july. I still fuck up quite a bit. I can’t move the joystick as fast as I should be able to.
That and I suck at hitting diagonals.
So if you are anything like me you are in for a long ride :frowning:

That is exactly it, my movements, while almost 100 percent correct, are coming out alot slower now. but hey, at least they come out the way I want them to do so that is something.

My main is Brad, and before I can never pull off his 33PP launcher, or his 114K whenever I needed it, hell even his 6P+K was giving me fits. but just with one day of the stick, I am hitting those all the time. Plus I have been able to hit my tech rolls, and stance changes nonstop, it is so easy when my fingers all ready on all three buttons.

But my Fuzzing guarding and evading seems to have taken a hit, plus I keep trying to figure out a way to rest the damned stick. When I had it on my lap as I lounge back in my recliner, as I do with a pad playing Halo, it just felt wierd, So i had to sit straight up, and just this morning I tried to sit on the damned floor with the sitck on the floor in front of me- its not the most comfortable position, but it seemed to actual work better since my hands and arms were at a better angle.

I uploaded it to youtube so people don’t have to download it:

lets hope for the best :wonder:

Man, shame that Open Battle will mean jack all here in the states lol. Sounds good to me. Just hope we see a console release or DLC for it. I don’t want to wait for EVO when D will be out.

Try sitting forward in your chair and puting the stick on a hasik (sp?) or something like that. That’s how I started out with this stick. Now I just kind of lounge on the floor with it on my lap, works fine now that I am used to a tapping stick.

This’ll probably work great from most players but not for me. I play SF crosshanded so for anything SF I need to use my MAS stick with the 6 buttons in a straight line as opposed to ergonomic.

VF is a tapping game and the hori stick is the closest thing to what I remember of the VF arcade cabinets. But I can’t use that thing with my hands reversed so I actually play VF normal handed. Weird I know but SF’s controller motions were always easier to execute with my right hand being that I am right handed. There aren’t any really truly difficult moves or strategies in VF that would require the same joystick gymnastics.

Case in point, A2 Zangief. Jump in splash, c jan, c short, 2n1 bannishing fist, FAB in SF. Muuuuuuch easier cross handed.

Items in winposes. Why didn’t namco think of that for tekken!?

Any chance of a ver.D patch for ps3 Sega??

I can see a patch easily work for the Battle Opera

I got my 360 yesterday and I’ve been getting some VF5 matches going. I’m still kind of a noob (I feel like I suck online) and I’m using Jacky (I tried everyone a bit and decided to stick with him). I can’t seem to land a jab after any launcher online, so I feel like I have to rely on footsies and throws. Any advice on how to rush down with Jacky would be greatly appreciated (I’d just rather be on the offensive).

Fight Yosuke, arguably the top player in North America.

Can anyone clarify for me what’s happening with the bug-fix for VF5 on Xbox 360? Are they releasing a downloadable patch? Recalling discs? …just how bad is it?
