Any Best Buy employees here? I need to know if the game will actually hit those stores tomorrow or on the 31st, which is what the website has posted.
This probably sounds like a stupid question, but are there actual “tiers” in vf? I haven’t played vf5 but in vf4 evo i never felt that some characters were totally dominant. I thought that the game was the most balanced fighter that I’ve ever played.
VF has tiers they just aren’t as rigid as other games.
The problem with answering your question is that the latest revision (Version C) has no tier list released by Arcadia and very little info on tournament placings in Japan so we can’t really say what the tiers are right now.
If check out the SRK strategy thread for VF5 (first post link) there is a tier list for Version B on the first post. Version C shouldn’t stray too far from it but there should be some big changes (particularly in top 5 or so).
waits angrily for ver C on ps3

How do you get the cool and bizarre items?
I have reached the Conqueror rank and beaten all tournaments, but I still have only 65% of the items and I have exactly zero of the cool items (I’ve heard about flaming bracelets, I’ve seen strange blue things and maces on youtube).
I hope there is a way to get those rare items other than farming every possible opponent. There must be about 1500 of them, they can’t possibly expect me to farm for the items among such an obscene amount of fighters once I’ve “beaten” the game, can they?
Damn. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the only PS->360 converter I could find online is $90 US (more than a 360 Hori stick!) and people say it has major problems. I feel like I’m back in ~'03 when I was looking for hackable controller PCBs just to play one game. Then if I do replace the guts with 360 stuff I can’t play Guilty Gear anymore. LOL, there’s always some complication preventing me from doing anything fun.
Enjoy the game everyone. :arazz:
I believe that they are in item battles. Use the Balloon Trick.
I’ve only recently started getting serious about competitive fighting games. And after playing VF4EVO extensively, I agree that among all the fighting games I own (Tekken 5, GGXXAC, CvS2,MvC2,SC3,SFAE and SFAA), VF4 is the one where I can truly notice myself improving over time. Every time I start playing, I end my gaming session a few tricks and combo wiser and a better understanding of the game. I feel that unlike many other fighters, VF4 is a bit less about memorizing long combos and frame data (though there is a lot of this in high level play) and more about understanding the general flow of the game and the different gameplay basics and the different assests of your character.
VF is my overall favorite fighting game series and I absolutely cannot wait to play VF5. I don’t have online, but if VF4 is any indication, Quest mode will be a blast and offer a lot of replayability.
FallingEdge, I just want to thank you for the video listing you did earlier.
Between you, Granby, and a few others… I feel the VF scene on SRK is strengthening. If I could rep you, I would.
Item battles = random encounters
What’s the balloon trick?

Also, you can get items from completing the orbs.
Ha ha, thanks man. I’m just a huge fan of the game and what everyone to get a chance to experience the greatness that is VF5. Glad to see that the vids are helpful.
This game should take a page from what Arcana Heart has been doing in the United States and Canada. It looks like this game (AH) is the most popular non-EVO game in the United States, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it got more entrants than ST at some of the majors like Final Round. You have people productively trash talking (in a way that increases the strength of players skill, rather than putting them off the game;) now you have a 5 on 5 going on, which will spark even more interest… and if you get some of the known top players here to play the game, then people will pick this game up (because some or many people are sheep.)
You know what would be a great idea? going to the most popular game store around your area, bring your car, television, VF5 game, etc… and play it, so people can see VF5 being played. Make sure you have a crowd (people that you know,) because having a crowd will make people interested in what is going on. This game is somewhat of a fresh start; it has only been available in North America for 8 months on a platform that is hard to get, so it’s not like an MMORPG where you are constantly playing catch-up, and there are many resources available to help players.
i’m really thinking about getting this, VF2 was the last game I’ve played but I’ve been playing the hell out of the demo and I love it. I used to main Sarah back in the day and she seems alright in demo but I really like the way El Blaze plays. Can anybody link me to some vids of the top El Blaze players? all the ones I see with him have him losing so I hope that they’re just random scrubs
I’m jonesing for this game pretty bad, I even had a dream about it last night but 60 bucks for the game, plus about 50 bucks for a 360 project box for my stick plus another 40 bucks to renew my xbl subscription is a lot of money.
In Version B it wasn’t common to see El Blaze, let alone winning (on readily available videos anyway). But in Version C he seems to have gained a bit more popularity, and more wins.
In this semi-recent tournament, El Blaze actually took first. And he’s up against very thick competition.

EDIT: Hmm, those streams arn’t playing for me, so if that’s the case for you, can try to DL them from this site instead. http://www.flashget.com/en/download.htm
they’re working for me, thanks! well at first they weren’t cause winamp kept trying to open the links but I changed the file associations so windows media player opens it and it works fine.
that’s some good stuff in those vids. I wonder howcome they didn’t bring that sumo dude back, I think that consoles should be powerful enough to handle the blubber physics that the PS2 couldn’t.
$#@! lost my job recently and need 40 bucks to pay off vf4. I think getting this game is the main reason for getting another job. well that and getting a hori ex 3
They want to be realistic I guess, Taka was so big and his overall hit box design and gravity physics that he was stupidly hard to combo. I guess Sega tried to think of ways to fix this but just couldn’t come up with a way that fit. Who knows though, maybe he’ll be back for the future updates.
To be honest most of us thought we would be on a roll with this kind of layout back in February. There were quite a few 2D players trying out VF5 such as Alex Valle, Combofiend, Nocturnal, and Ken_I. Unfortunately only Ken_I I think still plays regularly.
I think having known players pick up the game is great but I think having new players rise up to the challenge and become the known powerhouses in VF would do more good for the game.
Virtua Fighter holds many events actually and usually we always advertise on SRK as well (just 99% the time SRK doesn’t really care lol). In fact most of the Old thread was me, brisal, and LA_Akira spaming with posts advertising tournaments and gatherings. The biggest events in North American VF usually happen in SoCal around the time of April and again in the summer during EVO or in conjunction with EVO. I think Colorado also hosts a lot of events and have been becoming and potential powerhouse in VF. And most of the time majors such as NEC and VTYME have VF there which most East Coast players go to.
I’ve yet to see a Hori sitting on a shelf of an EBGames/Gamestop since it was released. I called around about 15 stores in my area for the first three days after it came out and none of them got any in. I eventually just ordered it from their site.
Since then, I have still yet to see one in a store. Availability isn’t concrete (that is, some locations stock more than others/get items that others don’t), though, so you may find one. I’d call ahead and see if they have any first.
Kind of the opposite situation of the availability of the DOA4 stick, which was quite common to find in stores when it first came out.
I don’t work at Best Buy, nor do I know what shipping method/carrier publishers use, but in general, a game arrives in stores the day after its ship date (Best Buy’s site has a release date, which is the day it will be in-store, Gamestop/EB’s site lists the ship date).
I have noticed that some people manage to get games on their ship date, but rarely is it someone on the east coast. People on my friends list who are playing games on their ship date are always west coast.
Around 5 states in the South I’ve been in recently, Best Buys and EB/Gamestops all seem to get their shipments in around 11:30am to as late as 2:30 pm. Time depends if delivery truck is on time or not (if its raining, its always later). Never assume the game is gonna be there when you arrive, always call ahead and save yourself a trip.
Sorry for longish post, but I know a ton of people go buy their shit on their lunchbreak and its a giant waste of time if you can’t get what you’re out for.
Playing demos makes the wait for the final product all the worse to me, so I rarely play them. I couldn’t resist VF5’s, though, and the time between 10/12 to now has been worse than all the time thats passed since the PS3 version came out. Just a few more days :lovin:
Ya know, this would be a nice feature if they updated this thing :wgrin:
Thanks anyway.
None of the EB/GS around here have it. They have it listed in their computers that it’s in stock, but it’s nowhere to be found. I found a Gamecrazy with one though. Thanks. Was worried.
I’ve really been waiting awhile to get into a new game. Every year I say “Okay, next GG”. But then a new ver. is always announced when I say this
I haven’t played VF since 3. Look forward to putting some serious time into this game.
