The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

Please don’t buy the items, folks. It only encourages publishers to sell things that ARE ALREADY AVAILABLE IN THE DISC. EA is notorious for this and it’s a damn shame Sega is doing it as well.

wait a min. was this stuff unlockable??

I’m not sure now. So far, none of the major sites have even announced the available content, but from what I have read in other boards, the stuff is available on the disc.

Is it possible that these XBL items could be unlockable or no. That’s gay if their not. The online is play gross, actually won matches against people w/ Blaze.

and ummmm…yeah.

I would like to learn akira and this is my first VF. I’ve made up and copied a few things I’ve seen.

Basic things (universal commands and stuff) I need help with:

Offensive move: I am having ALOT of trouble pulling this off consistantly for some reason. What’s the exact timing? The manual and game both do a terrible job explaining how it works.

fuzzy gaurd: ok, from what I understand, it’s crouching to avoid a throw? Is…that right?

Akira stuff: Ok, here’s a rundown of the stuff I do consistanly. Let me now if there’s better option or any opinion I might need to reconsider:

P+G throw is terrible. Opponents can wake up really fast from it and actually put you at frame disavantage.

4,6 throw is great. Sets up big damage. One juggle I do right now is : p, pause, p, k, crouch dash, 3+P on downed enemy.

1,6 throw is GREAT. Massive damage in just one move and can be landed like a normal throw.

3 throw is great. puts you at good frame advantage.

4,6,P seems like you can bounce from it. correct?

It’s probably on the disc already so that when you play others with the new items, that did not purchase them, they would be able to see your character without it going back to some kind of default item in it’s place or none at all.

This would probably also be applicable when you use a memory card and take your character data over to a friends house or to a tournament where they might not have the download packs, so that way the game recognizes it for being there.

If it’s going to be some crazy brand new shit, then it’s probably going to be in a mandatory download, even if the items themselves are still locked and have to be purchased at another time.

Next time I get on Live i’m going to get the content, cause it’s a good way to show support some way or another. Maybe we’ll see a next one if people actually grab them, it might even be free. But if no one gets them at all, then that’s reason for Sega to not put another one out.

If you’re willing to spend $3+ for a measly three articles of clothing, then why would Sega even bother to offer them for free? And buying for content that you essentially already own is not showing support, it’s being taken advantage of.

Fuzzy Guarding allows you to avoid high throws and block mid attacks in one quick ducking motion. If timed correctly, you can either avoid a high throw attempt during your duck, or rise just in time to block a mid attack. Here’s of Fuzzy Guarding.

Offensive move isn’t doing U/D+P+K+G rather it’s done by U/D then pressing P+K+G soon after.Whats cool about this is the window isn’t too tight.Which means while doing a Defensive move into the background you can tap D toward the end of the animation and P+K+G for OM

Fuzzy guard is just crouching long enough to avoid throws and standing up fast enough to not get nailed by mids.

and i don’t play akira well enough to comment on the rest :stuck_out_tongue:

I gave a reason(s) as to why content can be on a game already, but still be purchased to be unlocked. Don’t act like others game devs are altruistic and don’t do things like this, it’s done for file portable reason. it’s also for sale because this shit is also business.

Let’s give everything away free! Shit man!

Or we could’ve just not have gotten downloadable content at all. And then you can just complain about not having new shit.

There’s also two sides to this argument and both are valid(yours, mine).

I’m going to agree to disagree with you, and tell you to STFU nicely.

Though the stuff was already hidden in the disc, I’ll have to say that $3+ for FIFTY-ONE items (3 items each character, 17 characters) isn’t too bad. It beats having 3 items for each person at 100 points a piece (or maybe even 3 items for 300 points if that’s what you were thinking), which I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they were to use that pricing scheme. Either way, I’ll wait to see some pics of the downloadable items before I intend on making any purchases. Playing dress-up is fun.

The easiest way I found to learn it is to remember that you have more time than you think to execute the OM. Just evade and then tap P+K+G. Don’t rush it too much.

Pretty much. The idea is that at a certain frame disadvantage, if you quickly crouch and stand back up throw attempts will whiff and you will be blocking high to stop any mids.

Neutral throw definitely isn’t his best option, but it can be good sometimes to finish a round since most people don’t usually enter neutral as a break.

Be careful with the 4, 6 one. If they break it, they get a huge frame advantage (+23?) and lots of characters can hit you with guaranteed stuff. That’s why the 1, 6 throw is good to use if you think they’ll be inputting breaks.

An easy combo from the launcher throw (4, 6) is P, :l: :df: P, :l: :r: P. The last 46P is actually his double palm (1146P) but the previous move puts him in a crouching state so you don’t have to buffer a crouchdash. It’s possible to stick more punches in for some chars, but that’s a good starting point.

You can’t bounce from 46P. You can refloat with a standing/crouching punch and double palm, though.

No, I’m not acting like developers are altruistic. I specifically pointed out EA when I initially brought this up, so I’m completely aware of other companies trying to nickel-and-dime consumers.

The whole point of an online distribution system is to provide an inexpensive outlet for developers to either provide new content or extend the lifespan of an existing product. However, all Sega did was take content that was already developed and delivered and sell it again. Had Sega took the time to create new content, I might not have objected so strongly.

The only way publishers will stop doing this nickel-and-dime nonsense is if people don’t buy these packs. It will send a message to the publishers that they will have to provide packs that have actual value, and not simply sell unlock codes.

Honestly, if all Sega is going to do is sell unlock codes for clothes, I’d rather that they not offer any additional content at all. If anything, they should patch the game so that we can at least change our characters without having to quit a private match session.

It’s not 3 items for 300 points. It’s 51. 3 per character.

Most of them ARE garbage, I can, however, list them for you (and a brief description if needed)

I <3 you.

Edit - I don’t watch Naruto. :expressionless: I also didn’t see these items on http://www.hk-vf.net/vf5item/ , and a download did take place. So I wouldn’t so sure these items were on disc.

yeah, the one i use is pretty good; the 3+K is buffered, btw. you don’t need to dash on the second 4,6+P+K (you just immediately do it after the buffered 3+K), which is sexy.

Or an inexpensive new business medium, a way to fix errors due to consumers themselves being good playtesters by nature, and can also be a gauging tool to see who’s legit(meaning a real copy of the game cause a pirated one can’t get on Live or they’re banned), committed, and constantly playing the game.

A way for a company to make more money to come out with more shit, and to find out the number of fans, and show that it’s worth it. And you can’t deny that Sega is about it’s fans when it comes to Virtua Fighter, especially with how thorough VF4Evo was with it’s training center and content. I mean shit what other games you know have actual match videos on it? It means AM2 knows and shit.

I mean damn, VF5 is online now and the netcode is extremely good, and just a couple of months ago it wasn’t even going to be this way.

Or simply show the publishers that no one cares about, or is actually playing the game long enough to notice that there’s new content after the first 2 weeks. Alot of people don’t even play a game after 2 weeks, and instead just move on to a new one. Fans of VF will keep playing this game and are obviously playing it past the first 2 weeks.

Or it could just be reason for them not to do something like this again.

Sarah gets the black wings again??? Shit sega got my money… what is it anyway? $4? Pshhhh I can find that money in my freakin car’s coffee holder. No big deal.

KINGDOM: Pretty cool, I’ll have to try it next time with my bro, he wants to learn El Blaze and I’ve got to show him the way to pwn with the beaner.

Tigerboi: Here are some decent Akira combos off the launcher.

46P+G

P -> 66KK (for heavy weights)
P -> P -> P -> 43P -> 46P (old ver. B combo for everyone)
P -> P -> 6KP -> 3346P (new ver. C combo)

Fuck the wings.

The baseball cap.

A baseball cap and eyepatch, that’d be unfuckwitable. You know you already can’t deal with the eyepatch and leopard hat. WHAT"S GOOD

Lol the baseball cap would own maybe next update?

Actually I wouldn’t mind a skirt and some pom-poms, gotta finish my USC song girl outfit.

is anyone that is trying to get better want to play on xbl? because I have the misfortune of playing pppkx99999999 all the time on xbl, and I am trying to get better

gt: evoadvan

I don’t see how the content being on the disc already or being downloaded makes much of a difference, since they could’ve put it in the retail version to begin with. Paying for items isn’t nearly as bad as paying for cheat codes (that are available for free on other platforms) and the other stuff EA has done.

While we’re getting stuff thats been in the arcade version for a while, if later down the road we can get packs with the latest stuff also being released in the arcade, I’m all for it.

The Idolm@ster sold more DLC than they ever expected it to in Japan and thus it kept getting more and more DLC. This lead to a full sequel to the game being produced. While I doubt people are gonna go bananas over VF5 items like they did with Idolm@ster’s stuff, if it leads to us getting a ver. D update or an eventual VF5 Evo 360 port, it would be for a greater cause.

Good question, but it wouldn’t be the first case where a company released multiple paid DLC packs then released one for free.

F.E.A.R. is a FPS that had a pretty limited following on the 360 (very small…maybe even comparable to VF5) and they released overpriced map packs of maps available for free on the PC version. There was bitching, but enough people bought them.

Months down the line they put out a new DLC pack that had more content than the paid ones for free.
