The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

add me on your xbox360 ppl gt: EVOADVAN I am always looking for people to play

Alright, this morning, I was gettin’ angry. does it seem to you guys that doing OMs and DMs are much more difficult? Maybe its only me and I need to work on my timing, but it seems like the harder I try, the worse I get at doing them. I mean, I used to do them ok on the PS3 version, not even thinking about it. With the 360 version, I can almost never OMs and DMs, even if I map PKG to the Y button on my stick. Maybe its because of online lag, but I don’t think that is the case.

I only… ONLY have problems doing them online.
I thought it was just me and maybe I was too nervous or whatever since when I play online I am usually getting the shit kicked out of me. So I fuck up due to nerves or something.

But if I am not the only one then it just has to be due to it being online.
Because they come out like butter when I play on quest mode.

er uh…my gamertag is Niksurugi. Add me if you want to play…but I must warn you…I kinda suck

Damn. I’m gonna have to get a 360 to some of you online. I’m still playing Evo on PS2. I’ve played VF5 and I like the changes done to Jacky and Vanessa. Does anyone know what the differences between Ver.B and Ver.C Jacky and Vanessa are?

Pow tiggity pow pow.

I really like Jacky’s change to his 6P+K P.

It’s the lag that supposedly ‘doesn’t exist’ that is causing this.

El Blaze Crumple combos?!?!!? HELP!

Oh geez, nobody is helping me on this one on VFDC, so here goes nothing:

ok, i play El Blaze (actually one with a winning record! woot!), but i need some help on what to do if i get a side crumple…say…from OM+K or P…

i’m pretty good at sidestepping and punishing with OM’s now, but geez, i don’t know WTF to do as a combo on the opponent’s sides…

…or sometimes i completely sidestep to their backs…WTF combo should i be doing?!?

I always get a brain fart and do something stupid like 4+K,P,P…:bluu:

I’ve only landed his brutal front crumple combo once in a real match…it’s so hard to set up; the one where he gets a CH crumple stun with…

4,6+(P+K); 3+(P+K+G); 4+K; 4,6+(P+K); 3,3,4+(P+K+G)

brutal!

it’s ok; we all start out fresh and green. you’ll get good relatively quickly if you’re any good at fighting games.

Lol, I hope I helped you enough for showing me those fine ass pics!

In reality, I’m not that good, but I like to take the Yosuke approach and play hard 100% of the time. That way people who play me level up faster and learn the game effectively.

KINGDOM: If you OM to his back and crumple him in the back you actually get a guaranteed 33P+K+G, no joke so be sure to hit him with it when you get it.

If you get a side crumple the basic bounce is 9P+KK -> P -> 6PK does about 75 ish I think.

I’ve never seen that crumple set up before the one I’ve tell my lil bro to try is:

CH 46P+K -> 3P+K+G -> (buffered) 3P -> (dash) 46P+K -> 33P+K+G

I’m really trying to adopt and apply that thinking to all my fighting games. Even for the most casual of casuals. I sometimes do it, but I need to always do it, 100% like you and Yosuke.

If you find yourself getting popped in the knees by c.P over and over, you need to start recognizing it faster. When you successfuly block a c.P, your opponent is at a massive disadvantage. If they are a new player that relies on repeated c.P’s, you can adjust your strategy slightly and dominate them. Simply guard and then immediately f+P them as they try again. The f+P will stagger them (again, putting them at a huge disadvantage). From here, it’s up to you. You can try to sidekick for a knockdown (if they aren’t fast at struggling). Dash (or crouchdash) in and go for a throw attempt as they struggle out of the stagger and recover into guard, or attempt to sidestep (however, if they are relying on numerous c.P’s in a row, they probably won’t struggle -> evade). Dash (or crouchdash) in and go for another f+P in case they struggle and crouch again (or struggle and c.P again).

At the very basic level, VF is indeed a stiff game. Once you understand the movement and evasion principals, the game opens way up. Here are some things to keep in mind:

When you crouch dash forward (df,df) or backwards (db,db) and you let the stick go to neutral for a split second, you can immediately standing dash forward or backwards. This is very helpful for crouchdashing away from a move, immediately standing up and dashing back in to get back on offense. For example, with practice, you can cd backwards, dash forwards, low throw… when an opponent tries to c.P you. Not a beginner technique, but something to keep in mind.

Practice canceling your crouch dashes with sidesteps to better your position, or even add on the P+K+G additional sidestep. For example: db,db, u,N,P+K+G (recovers quick), cd forward (or backwards) etc. You can also just mix up crouch dash, sidestep, crouchdash, sidestep (box step or k-step etc).

Other basics to remember:

When you block a rising attack (from an opponent knocked down), you do NOT get a free throw ‘except under certain circumstances’. I see a lot of beginners (and often myself!) forgetting (or not realizing) this and going for a throw once they block high and low rising kicks. So, what are the certain circumstances? If the rising kick was delayed (both high and low) or if the opponent rolls back first and then kicks (delay or not). Then the throw is guaranteed. Remember this!

For most characters, P,K is free damage + advantage. It’s not “much” but its really good for what it is. If you have an opening that guarantees P,K, don’t be afraid to pop it out. Not only do you get a bit of damage, you have attack advantage. Another P,K for interrupt, a c.P for interrupting as well, a throw to catch guard or sidesteps etc. The ball is really in your court here.

Learn the 2-3 most important throw directions of every character. This is easy for some characters (Jeff, Wolf, Kage) and plan your escapes around them accordingly. For example: against a Jeffery, you generally need to be aware of df,df+P+G (splash mountain), QCF+P+G (spinning backbreaker), and d+P+G (potato sack throw). Escaping df, f, and d will escape 4 throws total. Not too bad. However, your opponent may like to use QCB+P+G instead of HCF+P+G… change up your strats. Then again, near a wall you are going to want to change your plan again to incorporate b and db throws (don’t want to get lift+pressed against wall for a huge combo, or surprise exchanged).

OK, I guess that’s enough for anyone starting out. Remember… pick who you like, not who you think is the best. VF is good that way.

new vf5 content on XBLM

Couple nitpicky things -

Blocked lowpunch is fuzzy guardable, not necessarily what I would call massive disadvantage - plenty of people much better than I am have complained about trouble effectively punishing blocked lowpunch online because of the lag.

Not everyone’s PK is advantage on normal hit, despite what denkai said on IRC :bgrin: Shun, lau, lion, verC Pai are all disadv.

Anybody know what Jeff and Akira get from the item pack?

Goh gets a Chainsaw, Orange Ponytail, and Cross-shaped Scar. If anybody is wondering.

If you’re on the fence about getting it; don’t.

It’s mostly blue hair for everyone, and a neck item. For females it’s mostly a “chandeleir necklace”, and for males, it’s Akira “gold ring necklace” (even for Jacky and Wolf … wtf?)

The best items I’ve seen:

Kabuki Make-up for Akira
Cross Scar for Goh (Huge gash in the shape of a cross on chest)
Glowing Blades for Kage (A … weird glowing weapon on his hip, glows blue)
Hanging Cap for Lion (A baseball cap hanging on his belt loop)
Orange Spiky Hair for Kage (… Looks like Naruto…)
Wild Mustache for Brad (Looks okay, kinda like a unkempt goatee)

If anybody wants specific list of the items for their character, I can give 'em to you.

Jeff got particularly dorked. A crappy white bandanna, wavy blue hair, and a small medieval shield on his hip.

If you got a list for Pai that would be cool,If not it’s not a big deal.I have like 7% of the regular items left to get(just the 230000 pt lower body pants)

Agreed, I would like to know the Pai stuff please.

Yea the post was for basic knowledge and people getting used to the system. If they are losing to repeated c.P’s (consistently), I honestly doubt that they are playing someone that is going to be using fuzzy once it’s blocked. It’s definitely a considerable disadvantage when guarded, and even moreso against someone (the newer players) who uses it as a mainstay of their offense. In reality, the first step to overcoming knee-cap madness is just recognizing it and knowing the first set of initial options.

Depending on the connection (I tend to play people who I know as opposed to random ranked battles where I can’t semi-control the connection) I’ve had only a slight problem against c.P’s. Depending on the responsiveness, I either use the f+P after the first (if I expect a second) or simply backdash (or CD) if my f+P isn’t coming out fast enough. On a more character specific note, I also look for the move that will outright beat a second c.P (like Jeff b+K,P etc) and work that into it… again, depending on connection.

In regards to PK, changed it to “For most characters…”.

IT HAS BEGUN! [/Shang Tsung]

I know it sounds retarded but I love the option to buy more items. It would have been better if they’d included more of it on-disc, but the fact its obtainable is great. If theres a steady stream of content packs in the future, I’m going to lose a lot of money ;_;

51some items for $3.75 isn’t too bad imo. Going by how they hosed people with the retarded prices for costumes/packs for Rumble Roses, Idolm@ster and DOAX2, I was expecting something a lot less reasonable.

Its all just cosmetic and doesn’t matter too much at the end of the day, but customization is one of the cooler minor things about VF to me.

I am mixed with feelings of great shame and giddiness while playing virtual dress up with my Aoi :lovin:
