noob with a noob question.
I was in dojo mode trying out brad and I couldn’t figure out how to do his neck crank grabs.
An example of the move I am trying to do would be 4PK then it says PG on hit to neck crank.
I’ve seen in a match on youtube somebody do thai clinch > knees and I am guessing that this move is the thai clinch correct? Yet when I try to do it I just punch kick then do a useless grab. Do I need to wait on my timing or am I messing up somewhere?
I recently dropped Jeff and Goh, and was looking for a new main. I considered Aoi, but after seeing a 9th Dan Aoi put the hurting on me, I wasn’t convinced that I like her fighting style (he cancelled alot of his strings into throws, which was just well-played and awesome). I am looking at Jacky, but find I don’t have alot of versatility besides a few token strings, and feel kind of stupid playing him.
All I do is like… DF + P, P, P+K (or P, depends) … B+P, D+K (or P)… and P, P, P, B+P, K (I think that’s the string that ends with BT). So if anybody has any tips to up my Jacky game, I’d appreciate it. The VFDC forum for him is kinda bare.
I also really, really want to play Akira. So I’ll be (and have been) losing all day long. I can finally do the noob P+K DLC like 50% on pad, and SPOD like 25%. Byakko like 10%. I can’t crouch-dash buffer to save my skin. I also feel like I kill alot of frames trying to do his moves. SDE in particular. I get a regular DE like 80% of the time when I’m going for it.
Havn’t played Brad in ages, but I’m pretty sure some of his kicks that lead into that hold must be done on counterhit to catch them. I think 3K > P+G on counter hit works. Or you can do longer strings which lead into the kick. I’ll check it out pretty soon for you if not.
they need counterhit to connect.
Ah thanks guys <3
Charlie Brown: AGGGGGHHH!!!
Post this up on VFDC man, some of the best Jacky and Akira players on VFDC and not on SRK. Look up Jerky and Denkai. Or Konjou Akira. Seriously, if nobody bites I’LL post up my nonsense. On that note I can also show you different styles of playing Jacky on LIVE if you need it.
Sorry, man. Nobody ever posts in my VFDC threads. It usually ends up being:
READ THE WIKI
THERE WAS A THREAD LIKE THIS 5 MONTHS AGO, OLD
LOL ANOTHER ONE OF THESE THREADS
Yea, I noticed that as well which is why I never bothered to post there.
I never felt a welcoming vibe over there so I just stuck to reading the wiki pages and left the forums alone.
Okay that probably because you are asking questions that are so basic to VF players it’s like asking how to do a hadouken on this forum.
Other than that it’s mostly Sebo pissed off of no reason. Just post or your never gonna get good information, especially on a site mainly about 2D fighters.
I’m taking a lot of beatings too, but i’ve learned to adapt to a lot of scrub strategies already. There are some really good players though. Try playing that Kajou Akira guy, or Black Baeur… Those guys are great
I just got VF5 by mail from Circuit City. I think I will use the monk as my main character because I like shaolin monks in kung fu movies. Here comes a new scrub ready for a fight or ass whooping.
I’ve been playing Pai for now. Trying to learn Jeffery but that is going to take some time. I have met a great deal of different players and is having the time of my life. I am surprised at the different levels of skill and knowledge these players have, and the distances I am able to play them without lag (Sweden, Finland, France - no lag). Amazing.
I just wish Sarah had her VF4 FL K and her P, 2K string.
Yeah VF4 FL K is soooo much better than the new shit, P2K hurts too but not nearly as much as FL K.
I made 3rd dan trying kage, and Jeffrey and right now Iam using Lei Fei cause he;s so fun.
This game is REALLY stiff and every fight seems to descend into knee cap punching but its fun. I think akira is gawdly with the down punch, forward elbow set up. shit is ANNOYING!!

Also imo, game is extremely far from being stiff, i’d say alot of other games are stiff in comparison.
Granby - It was because of her FL K in VF4 which made me love her. Especially on CH? Setup time. Now, peeps delay 2P on reaction whenever i transition into FL. It sucks. I dunno if youll agree but if she gets back those 2 things in the coming revisions, she would be alot better IMO. I loved P, 2K because i would throw out the P and if i heard/saw an evade, delay 2K would hit. God i miss that string and it shows in my game. Im pretty sure almost all Sarah players miss that string.
I hate having to work harder with Sarah to win.
dhalsimowns - I disagree. IMO VF5 feels more loose than previous games. I personally dont like the new sidewalk system and its loose feel, I prefer VF4s feel. I liked the precision with the movement. I know most people would feel previous VFs feel extremely stiff.
P2K was good but not a big deal post FT sarah.
If people evade K+G will deal with them easily now with much less risk then say side step attack and sweep from FL. And if you 3K a croucher, 3PK is more or less guaranteed unless they have god like struggling skills in which case just mix up 3K and catch throw.
But yeah FL K is probably the #1 reason she is in the shits right now, next to how risky it is to use Serpent Smash and Dragon Smash and how little damage she does compared to the rest of the cast.
The nice thing is she punishes really well in VF5 though, with a -10, -12, -13, -15 punishers that give some nice reward.
Buy a stick? Seriously, pad vs stick flamewars aside, xbox360 pad sucks all kind of . . . yeah.
I’m not an akira player, but I can do the stuff you mention on a stick (at least from 1p side), and my dexterity isn’t great by any means.
doublepalm: have you tried both 1146 and 3346 motions? I personally find forward crouchdash easier even if its theoretically less efficient.
SDE: Are you holding down guard when you’re doing the 666 ? That should help. It seems like dedicated akira players spend all of their time buffering forward taps in case they need it
