The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

Ditto.

I don’t have too many laggy matches, but sometimes when I do, its just barely noticable, but it fucks me way up.

I have a problem that if my moves don’t come out the right way, I naturally just try it again, like I’m in the Dojo. tapping the damn back button like it was start+retry in tony hawk, but I’m actually in an online match so what the fuck am I doing.:looney: I’ve spent so much damn time in the training mode it’s fucked me up. I’m not used to playing real people! lol.

A lot of times, I’ll try to do a short 3 hit PPP combo and stop, crouching kick, and then OM to do something else with Eileen, but I end up doing something stupid instead, like a PP2K into that little prance that she does after a short combo. I mean its kinda funny because its a taunt, but it pisses me off too. :annoy:

I see alot of what final_cut mentions. I also am guilty of doing it, too.

For ex., when I do a low pressure string and think I have the frame advantage, I try that DISNEY LAND with Jeff. If it whiffs, my dumbass will do it again. Not really sure how to break myself of that.

I got schooled by an Aoi today online, though. I think his/her name was… “zero ___ xxx” something like that.

I’m honestly kinda falling out of love with Jeff. Don’t know if I should go back to Goh, try Jacky, or try Wolf.

Every Wolf I play online is insanely good, and I admit that I eat more shoulder tackles than I’d care to mention. I also tend to get staggered by alot of shit and eat hit-throws and stuff. If I didn’t hate pro wrestling, and think all his costumes/voice/make-up (A Canadian … Native American?), I’d play him.

That’s probably just jealousy after I got my shit pushed in by every Wolf who clicked “Ranked Match”, though.

Maybe it’s for the best, considering I can only get Goh’s hit-throws to work on a 50/50 basis (specifically DF K+G, F P+G. I dont really use his F, F P… )

how good is this online? I don’t play too many fighters online anymore and I’d have to buy a 360 for this. Is it THAT good?

Does your offline rank from the quest mode carry over online, or does your character have an “online” and an “offline” rank?
If that’s the case, there’s no way I can play with my current character who’s at Hunter rank offline, I would get obliterated.

online and offline rank don’t haev anything to do with each other.

I finally unlocked “Healthy Glow” for Goh, went online, and lost about 12 straight.

I think it’s cursed.

It seems to be connection dependent. The people who have FIOS seem to think its great.

With my regular cable modem, bad connections are horrible but still entertaining (twitching & teleporting etc). “good” connections seem kinda normal, except some combos & blocking lows has to be on prediction not reaction.

As for the game itself . . . best 3d fighter on the market aside from VF4evo

Fighting game perfection.

Online play is the best yet amongst any genres.

Yeah I have been playing quite a bit and my connection is goddamn amazing. A huge majority of my matches are lag free, it is almost scary. I hit basara combos online with Goh, so it is not lagging that bad if at all.

connection is 80% good for me. Two dudes were medium laggy and one dude turned on the lag trick on me at some poing but backfired on him.

I find the non-ranked match ups to be more entertaining and over fun than ranked.

In ranked everyone tries to play ubber safe with little risk and dubs down style.

Non-ranked match however are highly more exciting and friendlyer.

I haven’t played much goh in vf5, but basara is basically like SPOD in that you mash out the whole combo as fast as possible every time you do the starting move, no? So lag is really irrelevant, you’re putting the whole combo in your local command buffer every time you do the move.

This is considerably different from knee ~ hit check ~ jab.

man i went around like 8 local stores trying to find a vf5 stick, no one had them so ill have to order this stuff online i guess

I’ve had lag in about 5% of matches (About 4-5 so far)

Not too bad.

Yeah lag has not been an issue for me either for the great majority of the matches I’ve played.

I hate recomending people to pay more money lol, but if there’s an option to upgrade your current cable bandwith, it might really helped. It helped me tremendously anyway. I still get bad matches, but they’re far and few to the great ones.

No issue with lag ever, here. The only issue I have is that I can beat 8, 9, and 10th Dans in Quest mode, yet get my ass kicked online. If it weren’t for the achievements/costume features offered by Quest, I wouldn’t be playing it at all

I’m am exactly the same way. Wanna have some online scrub matches? I bet I am the worse online player of the two of us. :wonder:

“Bandwith” per se is totally irrelevant - i’d be really surprised if they were pushing enough data to anywhere near saturate a cable modem line.

Latency is a whole different issue . . . I’m going to see about switching to DSL in the next month or so.

Duno, increasing your upload helps online gameplay for all sorts of games. My initial package h ad a great DL, but the UL was shite.

okay, i’m not sure where people are having these miraculously good sessions, but here’s my take so far.
i’ve had some decently good games, versus about some really terrible experiences ( the usual xbox live fare - trash talking scrubs that drop on you, people abusing really stupid shit and going unpunished due to lag ( brad elbows and lau stupidity come to mind ), latency affecting my ability to seemingly do anything consistent be it throw tech, ground tech, evade properly, space properly, guard cancel properly, OM, 0f throw, well to be honest i’ve probably fucked up ninety percent of the things i normally can land in a match 100% of the time ). the ratio right now is about one really good game versus about twenty terrible ones. and in all honesty i don’t believe that this game works online. i’m sure you guys have had some good playtime with it, but i just am not enjoying it, and therefore will not continue to try and draw blood from a stone.

that matter aside, it completely boggles my mind why leagues like Xleague.tv are going to be holding televised e-sports tournies for this through the netplay as opposed to having the players in person. I also hope that more people will go to http://www.worldcybergames.com/poll/selection2008.asp and vote in VF5 as the new game, it deserves its chance for worldwide competition and has the potential to really change how the whole e-sports global community views the fighting game community. But if these corporate sponsors are going to only be holding qualifiers through the netplay with terrible latency from one international region to the next then count me out. I think the matter is that the offline community as well as the contingent that plays this in arcades needs to step up and make themselves heard to these e-sports leagues like WCG, Direct TV’s CGS, et al, and let them know how serious they take this game and that judging player skill through netplay alone is unfair. i would love to compete in this game at that level but i really feel hampered by the online experiences i’ve had so far, to sum things up. ( i’m on a direct cable connection if anyone’s wondering )

anyway, i’ll be at C3 on saturday and at NEC if people want to play in person. i’m not sure how much longer i can tolerate this whole shift into the online realm when the accessibility of competition is severely lacking in my opinion ( as far as simulating the arcade experience is concerned ).
