Yep that’s what lost me the match then.
Since still learning the game i’ve noticed that I play way to linear, so yeh that’s what killed me. However the times where you didnt evade and you jabbed and I jabbed back, I ended up getting hit by your elbow anyway.
Konjou had told me to stop trying to react to everything and just THINK, but I’m still in that phase where I’m trying to just react to everything on site, and I suppose that’s not always a good idea is it?
Chill man, you didn’t use the string over and over. I just said that you used it. You used Straight Lead the most.
I guess I’m just not good enough then. It’s really as simple as that actually.
The throws became 0-frame because I tried to react to it on site instead of ducking in anticipation. It’s just something I’m not used to yet, and I didn’t understand this concept at all.
And also, just so you know, you weren’t confirming the K. Most of the time you just went right into the knee automatically. That’s what allowed me to get 2 rounds on you in the first place.
That is good advice and something I need to work on as well. I can go into the dojo and have the CPU throw me after it blocks a disadvantaged move and I can imput a couple of throw escapes. Same with evades. but in an actual match, I tend to just live in the moment, only evade when I see an attack coming, or try to throw escapes when it looks like I am going to get thrown, but I don’t have enough time to input more than one escape and I get tossed.
know when to think and know when to feel. cos like u do ur feeling ur way through. wen u get stung during a feeling process u need to think, but only for a moment. cos if you keep thinking a smart person will take advantage of that. keep training movements in situation to become flexible
flexability will guide feeling to flawlessly devour the opponent
Maybe this is a bit off topic, but does the 360 version seem to be a little bit less detailed to you guys as far as graphics are concerned? I use an HDMI connection with my PS3 and a VGA for my 360, but I never remembered the backgrounds being so blurry and low res. Maybe they did this to help alleviate lag in online play? not sure if that would work, just a thought. I really noticed it a lot when looking at the spectators in the great wall stage that don’t have any hands. It kind of made me laugh. The BGs are just so easy to see, maybe its just my brightness settings are different?
I don’t really care when it comes to the game, because I love this version so much more. I just thought it was interesting, though I no longer have both versions to compare. Maybe it’s exactly the same, I dunno.
^I can sort of see a little difference but then again I’m playing on a CRT to avoid input delay.
@Slide: Bro online play is REALLY hard to take seriously if you are more than 400 miles from your opponent.
So far I haven’t had an unlaggy match with an EC/MW/Canada/Euro player yet. It’s not that it ruins it or anything as I’ll still play and have fun but having my fuzzy lag and getting thrown when I shouldn’t really irks me a bit.
I just played Chanchai (Portland) and Goatcheeseblues (SoCal) and was able to get decent connection with them but there are still some hiccups.
Yep that’s exactly right. Good VF players are constantly aware of how their opponent’s react in any given situation, then take note and change accordingly. That’s what seperates good VF players from great. There are some people who can do EDTEG on reaction to a P/2P counter-hit, or reaction fuzzy with awesome accuracy, but very few who can do that AND recognize when NOT to do those things and mix up with the appropriate defensive options.
Might be your connection. Because I’ve only had noticable lag while playing people in europe.
Then again you probably play at a much higher skill level than I do and would be able to notice differences that fly right over my head.
You might want to give this a try here.
A friend of mine kept having really bad lag problems in all his games including halo 3 till he did this here. Cleared it up and now he is able to play online with much better connections.
I know it specifically says to do this for halo 3 in that thread but it can clear up problems in all games.
anyone up for some friendly sparring matches tonight? I am pretty removed from competitive VF and wouldn’t mind some refresher private fights where I can rematch the person I am playing. Send a friend request if interested.
I think you just nailed it on the head. This is what truly makes VF more like actual combat. You have to know your opponent. Even get inside his head sometimes.
Watch your opponents reactions. If he’s high, go low. If his guard is open, hit him. If his guard is up, throw him. Switch up your moves. Don’t worry so much about combos. Combos are great but if you execute one and their guard is up, you just left yourself open for a barrage.
My connection is actually really good though about 80-90% of the time, so when the usual stuff doesn’t work on time then I know the match is a bit off. Just frame moves and things I can check it.
Like I was saying before though, I’m not going to adjust to lag whenever that happens even if in the VF5 netcode’s case it’s rare when that happens. Online is all I have to go by on this game until the Christmas holiday season because I’m in the process of getting out of the Army like a week before that and so I’m pretty much locked in my location and all my leave days and everything like that is being used for terminal leave.
His advice was good, and so is everyone else’s. I’m pleased that everyone in the community is helpful and extremely welcoming. It makes it much easier to get into this game. Seems like alot of the VF crowd is just much more mature than other communities, and that goes a long way for an intimidating game in itself.
I honestly wouldnt got that far. I mean in saying know your opponent, cause alot of times you don’t and won’t. Sometimes your opponent will just play stubborn, you hit them with the same punishement 4 times in a row to win two rounds and they still keep doing it and you get hit with stupid stuff because you actually tried to fight them and they refuse to. Hitchecking helps alot with eliminating this though imo.
That’s one thing I’ve noticed though, the better players in the game respect advantages and disadvantages and understand set ups and moves to the point of knowing how powerful the shit is. Alot of scrubs i’ve played in the game play completely oblivious as to what’s going on and we never leave the initial layer of gameplay to actually start fighting, it just results in me 4K+G’ing their wakeup kick over and over and over and over.
Well, that’s why I said you can sometimes get in their heads. You can get inside a scubs head and mess with them. Don’t bother with a player of 5th Dan or higher. You won’t even get a chance really. All you can do is study their moves and reactions, while trying different things to see what their weaknesses may be.
I guess it depends really. As I’ve said fuzzy seems to be missing for me sometimes in long distance matches but a lot of people also don’t know about fuzzy and just hold G. Which would explain you sending them to Disney Land with Jeffery.
Hmmm I say find a guy that is really consistent and test it out. Not really sure to honest.
Anyone else feel that hitting quick match should just connect you to the first person it finds? Custom match should be for when you want to pick your opponent based on latency or something. Especially in ranked when custom match and quick match are just about the same button, you can only change stage / rank in custom and rank doesn’t seem to mean squat so far. I dunno, getting sick of “Unable to join session” all day, so I’m just making my own games now.
