The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

i think you need to learn how to play scruub, i’ll mm you ft 10 for $50!

 I never thought it would happen.

If connection is good, I kind of like the practice against button mashers. Not something I get usually lol. No arcades present to grace me with that practice haha.

Is anyone playing in this? I can’t find info for this anywhere.

anybody notice you get the most lag in the walled snow and walled water stage?

Duno, I figured I would but when I play there with connections I know to be good, it doesn’t really vary if at all. If any of the stages are in question to me,it’s the abandoned dojo. I havn’t played there with my friends to test it in known good connections, but of the times I have been there, it’s been shaddy.

STFU kurt and come play a real mans game bitch. :arazz:

PS: ranked matches suck, I hate people losing their head over a loss online.

They really did a great job with the online, Ive played a lot of games and havent noticed any lag

Yeah, came across those too. But they use the most simplistic patterns. Beatable.

For the few games that I have played, I noticed this pleasent suprise as well.

I think it has to do with the fact that those characters have high-low mix-up combos without even trying. Shun Di is the same way. That, and with all due respect to Virtua Fighter 5, this game is poorly balanced in terms of speed / damage. Fast characters have a big time advantage in scrub matches, and a few of those super fast characters also hit like a truck (Jacky comes to mind). It gets to the point where you can literally out-hit your opponent almost by a 3-to-1 ratio and still lose.

I’m sure none of that matters in competitive play, but for scrubs like myself just starting out with this game, it can get ugly.

I’m a scrub. I took Goh to about … ehh… 75/60 online before I decided he wasn’t really for me. He’s built like a grappler, but doesn’t have the vitality common amongst them to survive a few inevitable mistakes getting his throws in. I really like his Tsukami throws, though… and his D, F + P+K. Too good. Everybody on VFDC says he has the best sidekick in the game, but the lack of a decent follow-up (… does maybe DF + K+G … ? ) makes me kinda sad. I also can’t do slam combos (F, B + P) to save my ass, and most of his good shit ends up in there. Sad. I got his tanned item, and he’s looking pretty badass.

Now I’m using Jeffry. I personally have better luck with his sidekick (and the fact that he can tack on a D + K+G for easy follow-up at any range) than Goh’s. Besides his B + K, P… he doesn’t really have any fast moves that can deal close range agaisnt the metric shit ton of Lei Fei online.

I wish I could get into Jacky, but I don’t really like how all his game is basically F + P. His shit is all mid, and I find when I play Jacky it’s easy to fall into predictable strings (as a noob), get blocked, and get fucked up. That, and his voice is fucking horrible.

I hate fighting Lion online, because it seems it’s his low, double-kick sweep… then his U + K… Yawn. Every Lion I seen so far is the same… :frowning:

Maybe I’ll pick up Akira.

Sorry for the long rant.

Too long; didn’t read version: I notice the speed/damage thing, as I play slow characters. If anybody has some tips on Jacky, Jeffry, or Goh… please pass them along.

Noob Jeffry Guide

AKA - This shit probably only works online

Best moves (I’ve found)
D + K+G - Jeff’s best low, good poke, goes under alot of shit.
F + K - One of Jeff’s launchers (other good one is DF, DF + P), easy to tack on P, P, P or P, K, P in the minor latency VF5 has.
B + K, P - One of the only short-range moves Jeff has that I find reliable in a mashing situation.
F + P+K - You can follow up with F, F + P, P and then try for a D + K+G if you want.
DF + K - Really awesome mid-range attack. It’s fun to kick people in the face when they’re crouching. Or walking towards you. Or anything else. Can throw in a D + K+G after.

That’s about all my Jeff is. If you throw in a Splash Mountain. :frowning:

Goh’s strength isn’t necessarily just as a grappler. He does have a very nice mid/throw game, but a lot of his best damage comes from fishing for counterhits with various moves. I think he, more than a lot of the characters, relies on reading and reacting to the opponent since he has a very nice array of sabakis with great followups. He can definitely apply the pressure, but you have to be very good defensively and careful about choosing when to use different attacks.

I’m basically relearning how to play on stick so I’m starting up a new character. I’ve thought about playing kage…any kage players who can give me some newbie tips? Go to moves? strengths…weaknesses? Thanks in advance.

I don’t really play Kage, but this’ll help you: http://virtuafighter.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=39&PHPSESSID=

… and …

I like Goh alot. I just can’t do 270s or half-circles on X360 d-pad reliably. My main prob with Goh is all his good shit is short-range… and slow. Like F + P+K, B + P+K, etc.

I thought about trying to apply the fundamentals and mid/low mix-up I do with Jeff to Goh, but his striking damage isn’t nearly as high as Jeff’s to me, which means I’d have to connect alot more bullshit in order to win.

I also can’t really seem to find any decent juggles people can’t roll out of.

I usually end up trying to shoulder charge people to death. It sucks.

Hey, can anyone give me a noob Akira primer?

Pressure strings, when to use what, decent combos? Good/bad match-ups? Best low? Mids? Follow-ups?

All my Akira is is random F, F, P+K, P (I find the sidestep tends to put you in a shitty position thanks to the craptacular P, P), punishing pokes with QCB + P+K, and F+P, B. My only real combo is CH SDE, P, F, F + K, K. Garbage.

I can do DF + K+G, F+P, P+K on pad, but not spod or the real dragon lance. The P+K ender doesn’t combo. :frowning:

… So, yeah. Noob Akira primer? Make it happen, pros! I hear he’s easier to use in VF5 now more than ever. I always wanted to use him. He stomps around all pissed off and stuff.

The only combo I know for Goh is 3 3+P, then walk really close, 4 6 P+K, P, 6+P!

Does anybody know good effective combos after his 3 3+P?

Goh takes a lot patients to use, especially since some of his punch attacks has little reach and same goes with some of his rush attacks involving punches, except for 3 3+P, that has great reach.

There’s a huge list of Goh combos in his forum on VFDC.

For Jacky, I usually P+K,K, Down Punch, Down Kick, Knee stomp if they don’t tech roll. It does a good amount of damage and the first hit comes out fast, and is especially useful against online people who LOVE to crouch and block.

If you like jeff’s f P+K, see if you can land this stomach crumble combo online:

Since the timing for the dP is so late, maybe it’ll actually work online if you do it early

I took my profile over a friends house via memory card. It works well except that once you sign in two profiles, the game won’t let us save replays! It blacks out the gamedata/replays option when you have two profiles logged. Is there a workaround to this?
