Word, dude. I’ve got Kage and Jeffry as my characters right now. Reno and I played a bunch of matches where I was sort of…learning Jeffry while we played. But for sure, I’m down any day of the week.
There’s always gonna be lag but this is probably the best it’s gotten for XBL. It ranks up there with CFJ and MK:D/A as far as online play goes
I played him twice in ranked matches. The first game I won a close one with Jeffry vs. his Akira, and the 2nd time he destroyed me in three straight rounds. I’m glad I didn’t see him again…lol.
I dunno man, i think some of it has to do with your connection specifically(or that you’re across the continent), cause I’ve never fell for so many P throws before(i usually get a P back after blocking their P or I crouch the throw attempt etc), and that’s just some of it. And also how it was wilding out at the end when we had to stop that’s the first time that’s ever happened to me during the game where it’s gotten that weird. maybe cause it was a sunday and that’s a busy internet day for the u.s. Are you on a router? So I can only imagine some of the stuff you must be going through or can’t get out since you have to play on that connection all the time.
I do know that ALOT of my strings get low jabbed out of, even when I KNOW that on my advantage they cant squeeze one of those inbetween my follow ups. It happens often whenever I do P, G, 6P. I get low jabbed inbetween and that’s not really supposed to happen.
On hit or block? You can low P out of that on block.
You can’t low P out of elbow if P is blocked. All jabs are +2 on block in VF5.
Slide, online there is just too much frame loss for that strategy to work. It’s a good habit for when you play for real but if you lose just 1 frame the strategy losses.
I had a ton of fun but my connection makes it hard for me to take the stuff seriously. I’m still lucky in that I have offline friends all over souther california but I can understand people who need the online play.
Pretty sure that’s a diamond item (rarest and best item type you can get from an item battle). Only way you’re really going to see one of those any time soon is by using the balloon trick.
I would definitely recommend getting a hori arcade stick. They’re reasonably priced and can be found easily on ebay for about 50-60 bucks. Then mod the hori arcade stick. I wrote a couple of tutorials to help with that.
I’ve been using one for while now, and have a 95% winning percentage in Xbox Live VF5 Quest Mode. Yes that is bragging a bit, but I do attribute much of it to the controller.
I need to get my stick modded, speaking of which. These spongey buttons aren’t getting any better. I was thinking that after I wore them in, they would be awesome, but no such luck.
I like it. You can find much more advance knowledge on sites like VFCC, but it’s a great way for beginners to get their feet wet. I love how they broke each character sections down into long range, medium range and close range moves and which range each character excels in. Plus I love the brief anti-character strats that list the most powerful throws you should break, the best range to fight that character, or the best side to evade to. Plus I just like having a hard copy of a movelist when playing the game instead of having to open the in-game command list.
So, I finally got the balloon to appear, and I waited for it to stop at an arcade. It didn’t. I wasn’t aware that you needed to enter an arcade while it was over it, I thought it would stop first. Now I have to wait for my next ten wins to try it again
Granby, do you think you can change the title to say something about the cheaper price at Circuit City this week? Might get a few more people to pick it up or stop by this thread… Or not. Just a suggestion.
I’ll probably put in some sanwa buttons as well, once the hori buttons have worn out (which they’re already starting to.) When I replace them I’ll put a tutorial up for that as well.
I’ve looked at the tech forum, and what you’ll pretty much need to do it grind down the circular plastic rings from the underside of the controller. The ones that house the hori buttons. Then put Sanwa snap-in buttons in there, and bend the metal pegs so they wont bump into the PCB (circuit board). Then you take some thin wire and solder those to the contacts on the PCB.
Don’t even have to wait for it to be over an Arcade, just has to be visible on the screen. Can enter any of the arcades during that.
I’ve played all of 2 games online w/vf5.
First game looked normal visually, but basic jeff knee combos werent hitting (ie the first punch whiffed). Went back to quest & played vs the same char just to make sure it wasn’t alcohol-induced or whatever, no probs hitting the same combos.
Second was so bad there was visual distortion - characters moving from place to place w/ no animation in between. Gave up after that.
This is on normal ol’ roadrunner cable. . . .
That’s weird, man. I’m in SoCAL on Verizon FIOS and have played 200 matches w/ ZERO lag. I get plenty of lag in DOA4, but none on VF5 on the 360.
That strategy imo is a necessity for the Bryants, right? simply cause of all the shit both Sarah and Jacky can do off that stuff.
I mean some games it works some games it doesnt, I’m not going to alter my game just because it’s online and won’t work the 5% or so of the time, i’ve never done something like that before. If it comes down to shit like that i’ll just take my online beatings. I mean i can still land a whole bunch of other cool stuff like FL 6P+K, K(hit), JF K K, etc.
And also 85-90% of the time it’s not an issue it just depends on how far away someone i’m playing lives and what busy day and busy time it is.
I’m sure once i get out of the military offline comp won’t be an issue, caliagent for one thing, lives around where I do when I’m at home home.
@ChairHome: I can’t change the title of the thread! Can some mod help me pretty pretty please???
@codyK aka KoD: I hear you bro, it seems with combos starting with P you can’t rely on stuff at all. I was playing Slide and 100% of the time P would miss after 4K+G for me, and EVERYONE that has played me IRL knows I hit those combos like nothing else. I think it’s one sided to me cause Slide hit them for some reason. Wasn’t a character thing either cause Jacky misses too when I try it. Kind of annoys me since I have to rely on just jumping on them after heel drop.
Not to sound like an elitiest cause I do think the online code seems to be good, but you cannot realize how big a deal lag is in VF when you miss a fuzzy, TE, combo, evade that should’ve happened offline. A lot of skill is lost online even in great rooms.
EDIT:
@Slide: Yeah it’s pretty big for them though not totally essential for Jacky. Remember Jacky has PP6P which your opponent should duck (or you can just spam PPK4>P from shuffle). For Sarah though, since her elbow follow ups are so strong and her jab is so dominate it can be a tough sell.
IMO I would also just take the online beatings a practice on being consistent. Offline is where it matters and offline the low punch will not save them.
Yeah i forgot about the PP6P with Jacky and I use it alot haha.
Thing about it though is that I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff we’ve all low punched through that we shouldn’t have been able to.
Is every Lei Fei, Lion, and Lau a button-mashing faggot online, or do I just have bad luck?
Alot of them are sadly. I just avoid playing random players because i dont wanna have to deal with stuff like that
