where does it say that?
im intrigued
You know, I look at the rival lists for each arcade and I’ve decided that I’m not even going for those achievements. I’ve been playing a lot the past two days, and I’m only at…23% for the Coast arcade. Fuck that.
It’s too bad that “Unable to join” pops up more than actual games do. shrug I got my ass worked in ranked. I don’t think Lei Fei is for me…

I tried a few matches yesterday since I had just got my copy, it lagged a little bit the transition from the PS:3 to the 360 controller for me will take some adjusting I couldn’t do some the moves I wanted with Vanessa
Is the only way to get items/costumes through the Quest mode?
That and through offline versus. Though I think you can gain some stuff through arcade too, but I can’t confirm that.
I’m pretty sure that is how it works. After so many wins, you get items, and randomly new outfits pop up. There are so many things to work with though, I’m really impressed with it. Unfortunately, you have to play the quest mode a LOT to get all the good stuff, and most of the time I’m only willing to play in online matches, or mess around in training mode. PS3 version it wasn’t a big deal, cuz basically it simulated real arcade multiplayer, and you couldn’t play online.
General flow of quest mode from beginning a new character is. Earn First Dan, get your C outfit. Collect your first full Orb Disc, get your D outfit. In this you get money from the official tounaments (Didn’t in the PS3 one). Money is also earned from cash tournaments at various arcades which occur after so many matches played. Item and emblem tournaments work in the same fashion.
Then there are random item battles, which occur, well, randomly. You can expedite these and make them guaranteed by performing the “Balloon Trick”. Which I’m not 100% certain on how it works, but the last digit in your Wins: and last digit in your Losses: must be the same digit and they must be odd numbers. Either that or they must both be 7s. Once your win/loss record is correct, exit out to the arcade selection screen and you should see a Balloon Floating around. When you see this balloon up, enter an arcade and enjoy the 100% guaranteed item battles (I duno how long it lasts for really, but it’s a good while.)
how do i get the extra dojo mode?
Command Training, Free Training and Command Time Attack is all there is. All given to you at the start.
I’m in the exact same boat as you. I always get that “unable to join” unless I’m hosting. I might have to check if my NAT setting is still open on my router.
And Lei Fei… haha. I thought I was pretty good with him on VF4, but I suck with him now. I got rocked 0-3 online and I haven’t jumped back on yet.
hmmm…I finished command time attack and it gave me directions to access some type of dojo training, but i don’t remember what it told me to do. it said something like, press right at some point or something. maybe i was trippin’. wasn’t really paying attention.
More times than not, the Unable to Join message comes from that person already having been challenged. Sometimes I think due to lag of the system their name will remain there even when you refresh your search shortly after.
It’s just telling you about holding Right Bumper while entering Dojo. It places you on the player 2 side. Same for Arcade and what not.
oh, i see, it just says…
“Dojo Stages unlocked. Move the cursor outside the frame on the Stage Select Screen to select the.”
so it just allows you to select dojo stages i guess.
Ohhh that one lol, sorry. Yup. I like those stages haha.
ok got the game yesterday but my xbox is not reading it anyone know what that could be? when I put it in it says “reading” but a after few seconds it says “open tray” it does this like 20 times before it actually reads the game then once Im in the game it gives me a “disk is dirty or damaged” thing and it sends me back to the 360’s main menu.
this fucking sucks I want to play VF god damnit!!!
oh and yeah it does this with all the games
If this is intended as criticism, it ignores that virtuafighter.com and tekkenzaibatsu.com are plugged as well. Regardless of SRK’s specialization, it remains the largest fighting game forum on the web and the primary fulcrum for the tournament fighting scene in the states. You are in a VF5 thread on SRK so I don’t see the plug as irrelevant. If this isn’t a critique, ignore me. XD
A discussion on how frames work is important whether frame data itself is included or not. That way when people seek out more information online, they are not completely in the dark. There are reasons frame data was not included that I can’t/won’t get into. In large part the online plugs exist specifically because there is no frame data. On the bright side, VF.com and hk-vf.net will have ver C frame data eventually if they don’t already, and 99% of the frame data is identical to ver B. Look at this a slightly different way – frame data helps experts, not novices. There are 50 of the former in the US, and 499,950 of the latter. You have to walk before you can run. I hope this serves as a somewhat satisfactory, if not completely pleasing, explanation.
The balloon has the highest chance of appearing (about 50%) when your wins and losses both end in 7. TURN AUTOSAVE OFF then get your wins to end in 7 and your losses to end in 6 (or vice-versa). SAVE THE GAME, then win/lose one more match, bringing the last digit in both columns to 7. Exit whatever arcade you’re in and check the main quest mode screen. If it worked, the balloon comes in from the upper-right. If it didn’t, exit to 360 dashboard, reload VF5, and try again. When it works, wait for the balloon to hover over the arcade you want, then enter and start fighting. Your next 10 fights are guaranteed item battles provided you don’t lose. Instead of winning all 10, win 9 of them and then pause the game on the 10th match and exit to the arcade screen. There is no penalty for this. Save the game again, win one more match, exit the next match, check for the balloon, wash, rinse, repeat. Perpetual infinite item battles.
Ha, yeah. I’ve been able to get in a lot of games, I figure it’s just everyone is trying to join those and only one can get in so I get shafted until I find a match that was just created. shrug
Yeah, I went 1-5 and gave up on him. He’s fun, but I don’t really know, perhaps he’s too advanced for me. I’m rockin Kage Maru now
Kage players unite! I didn’t want to become yet another Kage player in VF5, but as of right now, he’s the only character that feels “natural” to me. It’s like my playing style works well with using him, and since he was one of my mains in VF4 (I mainly used him and Sarah, although I also tried Akira and Pai) I have a general idea of what I should do with him. Plus, it also helps that he’s an awesome character who makes you feel like you are using a real ninja.
I had some rather unsatisfactory experiences online, but that’s because I was playing in my friend’s house and his 360 was connected through a router. Maybe if I get a direct connection, I won’t have lag that destroys my combo ability. As of right now, however, this is probably the best fighting game I have ever played.
I noticed that it also plugs the other sites as well. Far from being a critique, I simply thought it was cool. My only criticism is the missing frame data(which the Dojo displays btw) which would’ve been invaluable to myself and many other “advanced” players. I say advanced because i’m familiar with fighting games to the extent that frame data is important to me.
hey dr. deelite i was looking at the el blaze combos and see that you have 26P+K finisher as 4KPKPKPK. is that a real combo or a typo? i can’t get it to work and it looks like it would do insane damage and says it works on everybody.
