The NEW TN THREAD: Trojan MMs, T-shirt matches, Bawse Battles, Evo qualifiers, LETS GO!

The kid has jokes! You will be donating soon enough!

Also, Lycan, I was considering going to UFGT 8 as well. PM me some details and some price ranges so I can see what’s good. Did you want to drive, fly, or greyhound it?

Assist Gems need to be outlawed. Have a dude zone you building meter and then when you finally do get in, he has an auto block auto tech gem and blows up your mixup. Then hits you and gets all the meter back.

…I had an extremely smart assed comment ready to go for this post, but upon studying it, it can stand on it’s own just fine. It doesn’t need my help.

*loud sigh…

FUCK IT HOW DO PEOPLE PLAY THIS GAME AND THEN SLEEP AT NIGHT?

cuz itz fun mayne

I still need to do my pro/con (objective as possible) post so I’ll get started on it now.

Ok, fine assist gems. What about everything else? I’m just saying I don’t get why all gem are banned

Don’t Speed Gems allow for derpy stuff. Rolento with extra speed means JABS FOR DAYS

We’ve never played with gems here. shrug

Also, I randomly have Friday off as a company holiday. I’m currently planning on heading up Friday during the day to play ST with Jason, and I’ll play anything but “Astaroth games” if people show up.

I can try to drag some people with me if any of you will be dropping by. Let me know what games.

SFxT Pros and Cons
or
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Fighting Game Edition

Pros:
[]Probably the most important piece of any fighting game; the engine. While this will probably also be part of the “con” section, I have to express that with some smart tweaks, the engine could be something worthy of praise and very unique. The many different uses of meter is a big plus for me because it promotes creativity in playstyle, and the multiple ways to tag out your character add strategy to the “who’s got the most life” part of the game. The juggle system is fun but flawed, and works well with most of the cast.

[
]Customization is cool, changing colors and whatnot. I’d still like a Tekken style piece-by-piece customization process but this is a step in the right direction, although wanting to charge for all that shit wasn’t cool.

[]Gems. That’s right I said it. I like them, or at least, I like the idea of them. Boost gems are cool for the most part and can add strategy depending on how you play. It’s nice that new things are being tried, and again with tweaks could be something really special. Also look for gems in the “con” section…

[
]Netcode. GGPO is a “rollback” style of netcode, and this games code is a sort of emulation of that. It works well enough, and like much else in this list could become even better over time.

[]Subjectively, the idea of these two universes’ characters colliding makes for a more fun experience than just what the gameplay provides alone. People that have played both series over a large time span might find joy in just the premise of this game.
Cons:
[
]The engine. It seems like for everything they did right, something else popped up that almost nullified the point. Combos are creative, but the restrictive damage scaling makes creativity moot. Tagging in and out effectively requires strategy, but the resulting life totals make time out victories an all too often occurence. Besides that, the various glitches and infinite combos shine lights on some things they need to work on. Also, LOL at quick combos.
[]Gems. Assist gems take away strategy from the game, and that’s a BIG no-no. I understand wanting to attract new players and all but blatant pandering to the lowest common denominator is not the way to do it. Besides that, just the way gems were implemented as far as releasing them as dlc and making it difficult for a large number of people to make sure they all have the same ones is just nonsensical. The tournament community isn’t everything to Capcom, but it has become an irrefutable boost to their games’ popularity over the years so putting some forethought into stuff like this should happen.

[
]Appearance. The models look good for the most part (despite being goofy looking at times), but the glare coming from some imaginary light source behind all the characters just gives the game a cheap plastic-y look. The stages also don’t do it for me to be honest.

I’ll add something subjective here to balance out the lists, and that’s the whole DLC fiasco. Arguments can be made for both sides, but in the end, it still “feels” wrong, and even with the way they’ve changed their prices or whatever, it still doesn’t feel “right”. Hopefully they use this experience to change the way they plan things out.

Lol gems.

Just allow the prettiest ones. Or make it so that people can only play with their birthstones.

not that I play the game, but seems like you should wait and see how the gems thing plays out before you start banning them… seems a little premature

They’ve been preemptively banned at EVO due to not knowing how Capcom was actually going to make load outs work. Right now you have to go through the main menu. If offline is none and online is no holds barred, that would be cool to me.

Kuya! You just tapped into one of my childhood memories! I used to watch this show in the Philippines back in the day (86-87).

Where’s Luis? I miss seeing him, although I never played any games with him. I wasn’t even fully integrated into the SRK scene at that time.

Also: MWC thread is up on Dustloop with Logo, trailer, and rule quote.

I get off work to find w00t talking about KOF…
