I think the problem is that about 12-13 years ago none of the VS games (comic games) were ever taken seriously by the Street Fighter crowd. You don’t see old school SF heads taking Marvel seriously. They may dabble with it, but the game is meant to be fun and competitively you just have to realize one error = death along with all the other random stuff going on in the game.
When Street Fighter IV came out, everyone here to a point took MVC3 seriously for some reason, but I know that game trolls people, LOL…I have to be the only person who really just has not played that game to any extent at all out here…(we’re talking 45 minutes total) but it rears its ugly head eventually.
Bottom line is, if you don’t like games with risk/reward/damage concerns, don’t play MVC, and don’t play Tekken…heck MK is close to that right now but only reason it isn’t is because of the breaker possibility.
Random : proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern
That being said. Randomness can and will happen in any and all things BUT when it regards to fighting games, you had to be doing something wrong to get hit. Your opponent can do random things all day, ultimately it was your fault for getting hit. Meaning you either werent blocking(regards of how much you believe you were) or pressed a button(whether it was intentional or not).
Now, it’s understood that Marvel is a “stupid” game but at the end of the day you have complete control of whether or not you get hit(unless of course you caught a true unblockable). The main reason I believe people get frustrated is because the simplest mistake can cost you the ENTIRE match which is VERY VERY frustrating because humans aren’t perfect. That being said though, defending or at least attemting to do so is vitally important.
If you dislike Marvel dont play it, If you like Marvel play it end of discussion
its kinda annoying people bitching about a game they barely play, everyone who plays it all the time likes the game even with its stupid stuff its not like we were blind to it like you showed us the light to something we missed so you can talk to your blue in the face people arnt gonna stop playing marvel because of it.
also Wolverine is fair and balanced DEAL WITH IT BUB!
I love it how we deal with this shit at least once a month, then everything settles down and some random internet white knight comes in to defend their game, which only brings up the same opinions we heard last month and the month before that and the month before that. Really, that horse is a grease spot on the floor. We don’t have to put the needle back on that broken record every time someone new comes along.
I won’t change your opinion, you won’t change mine, etc etc etc ergo ipso facto columbo oreo. Play your game, be happy with it, and let others play theirs.
People still complaining about Marvel who haven’t taken the time to understand the mechanics? Cool.
There are also problems with SF4, and pretty much any fighting game out there.
Yes there are problems with Marvel, Level 2/3 XFC probably being the biggest one (speed boost is more annoying than the damage imo). XFC would be more balanced if they removed the damage and speed boosts while keeping the other parts. The damage ceiling being raised alone makes XFC combos way more damaging, no need for damage boost. Blocking some characters with level 3 speed boost is near impossible for some people.
People talk about doing the same thing and getting different results? SF4 says hello with ambiguous crossups, wonky hitboxes and random hitstun reel animations (sup Ryu).
TLDR; Stop complaining about things in games when you obviously don’t understand the mechanics of the game, especially when your game of preference is far from perfect.
Lmao! I love to hear ppl bitch about marvel. It’s funny how when i wanted to drop the game because it’s 10x more stupid than mvc2 ever was ya were giving me shit about it but here ya all are crying over it. It’s marvel,it’s fun,it’s broken and it’s stupid, deal with it!
If you can’t put up with it don’t play it at all it’s that simple. I just play the game for what it is and try and have fun with it and not take it so serious because i know mvc3 is wayyy too stupid at times (like calling out an assist and blocking only to get hit anyways because the assist got hit lol) but it’s like w/e just play it or don’t. I still like the game despite it’s irritating factors and what not but Oh God! i can only imagine how much bitching is gonna go down when AE comes out and ppl can’t seem to deal with Yun here in memphis lol. I will be playing him so be forewarned because A=I don’t give a shit about ssf4 B= i just don’t like rufus and C=I’m too lazy to bother training in that game to get better with viper so yes i’m tier whoring, fuck you!
About the whole Marvel thing, didn’t this past Marvel tournament have more entrants than SF and MK? People think it’s fun, so they must be doing something right. I know this event was just one example, but you can’t deny Marvel’s “success” in recent majors and other small tournaments.
There are some random, wonky things that happens in Marvel, but random things happen in every game. I definitely think there are some balance issues, like Magneto (why can he zone and rushdown extremely well?!), Wesker (1.1 mil health, teleports, zones, self otgs, hits as hard as Hulk, etc.), and DHC glitch (if you’re not killing a character from one hit, you’re doing it wrong), but what game doesn’t have balance issues? AE has LOLYUN. MK has Raiden and a few other “strong” characters.
I agree with Bishop though. People don’t know how to block, so they lose extremely fast. Then, they dismiss the game and call it shitty.
Just my two cents. Or not giving people a whole meter for air tagging. Would make like… all the scrubby pheonix players stop playing pheonix. Not that I mind scrubby pheonixes, they get all panicky when you snap her in at the start of the match.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Marvel. I’m actually very serious about it, probably because I realized it takes the lowest amount of skill to reach the upper levels of gameplay. It’s also very fun to come up with combos from your ass. Maining Zero, you tend to just improvise your combos from time to time.
Final Edit: ** Who was the guy that said he was learning to play Marvel and lived near Clarksville? I checked back like ten pages but I couldn’t find your post. I would have replied to you then but I think I got distracted by something.**
People complain that snapping her in still isn’t enough. I’m pretty sure those same people don’t know how to pressure characters coming in. Besides, has a Phoenix player even won a tournament yet?
Yeah I was looking forward to playing casuals with people, but Marvel didn’t get set up until so late and then I ended up having to unlock the characters on the other screen. If you want to play some lagggy xbox live matches with me feel free to add my gamertag. I haven’t gotten online today but I might at some point. If I do get on my xbox I want to finish “Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes” Shame on you if you don’t have it. It’s very fun.
So… ggs in Marvel to Sev, Lycan, Jas, and w00t today at Sev’s. Crazy teams, randomness input failures, and frustrating enjoyment galore! And Squab I won a challenge match against Lycan.
About Marvel: the game is fun; if you want to play it for this aforementioned fun, do so. Some matches are uphill battles; if you want to play seriously, go into training mode and TRAIN, don’t just learn a combo and think you’ll win, play against REAL people not the arcade mode, step your defensive game up. I’m not going to lie and say its a perfect fighting game, to find it you’ll have to go Platonic and find a wormhole to the particular alternate reality where the perfect fighting game exist.
So yeah what Josh said: if you like it play it , if not don’t.
Also, about the flooding situation in Memphis, be a little more wary whether you live near the Mississippi River or not. when the river crests the water will back up into other waterways around the city, so streams and small rivers around the city might flood too. they’re evacuating houses down the street from me in preparation, and while we live on a small hill, the experts are saying we may not take on water but we may find ourselves on an island. unable to leave the area. careful out there guys.
I do this all the time. I don’t ever extend the invites to people who don’t live near me just because of how far away I live. I’ve got 7 screens, so technically we could run marvel without anybody ever putting a stick down. I just don’t have enough consoles to occupy them all. But I’ll see what I can get put together for this weekend, since I’m not going to chatt-town anymore.
