Just for the record I told you that Raiden was broken as fuck and you said that I was being an attention whore because I was pissed off to the point where I posted about it a few times. Then, bam 3 page rant… Oh vell.
Just re-read Mike’s post again. Please tell me you didn’t actually remove anything from that post, Mike. Please tell me you just added more and more stuffs.
All I hear is “Marvel is too hard for me to play” “I don’t have the reflexes required” “Getting killed in 2-3 touches is not my type of game”.
All that is fine. Great, don’t play it. But to say it isn’t a good game or isn’t well-designed merely shows your scrub nature. This is not me insulting you: It’s just the definition of a scrub. One who can’t hang and refuses to learn, so instead of admitting it they complain that things are ‘broken’ or ‘cheap’. Every character IS viable in Marvel: The Grand Finals of the last Game Galaxy tournament? Wesker/Dante/TRISH vs. CAPTAIN AMERICA/IRONMAN/Wolverine. The Bham monthlies finals? Wesker/Dante/Trish vs. She-hulk/Wesker/Morrigan.
All the Dark Phenoixes got knocked out because they couldn’t handle not being able to spend meter on their other characters, or people would just time them out for easy wins.
Do you see alot of same characters? Yeah. Magneto, Wesker, Sent, Dante, Wolverine, Pheonix, Tron, Hulk. These people pick them because they are somewhat simpler characters. Did you see alot of Ragna/Jin/Tager/Lambda/Litchi/Bang in Blazblue? Hell yes, they were the simplest characters to do well with (well, not Tager, but he was just cool). Mortal Kombat sees so many Kung Laos, Raidens, etc. Oh but it’s okay for those games, not Marvel. (Note: I like both of those games, not hating. I like ALL fighting games.)
Complaining about Sentinel? Learn to block, his mixup is atrocious. Punish his assist once and he dies. Complaining about Dark Phoenix? Learn to run away or use snap-ins. I see people getting her as the last character and killing her. WRONG. Run away. It’s so easy to run away from Pheonix for 70+ seconds unless your playing a slow ass character, and you should have at least 1 highly mobile char on a team. Complaining about Wolverine? He’s paper, hit him once he dies. Stay in the air, he’s ass in the air. If your on the ground, he owns you. Even on the ground, anticipate his dive kick. When it comes out, dash behind him and punish as he hits the ground. Complaining about Hulk? Are you kidding me?
Every character IS viable. I’ve been rocked by Morrigan, infinited by Felicia, instant-killed by X-23, and mixed-up to death by Chun-Li.
Marvel does have problems. X-factor lvl 3 is too powerful, but it can be beat simply by running away. You DO have a character that can run away right? No? Then work on making a more balanced team, don’t cry when your playing Hulk/Wesker/Chris and you can’t run away from them. The DHC glitch is also pretty up in the air as to whether it adds to the game or take away from it, but the game is still developing.
This is typical though, Marvel causes so much salt. Most people can’t deal with it so they quit. And then they complain.
That’s not the definition of scrub.
“The original definition is related to a person who makes a mistake in a video game, which is such a bad mistake that it is clearly wrong, yet they persist in making it.”
I would say getting killed by Wolv/DP/Sent etc. and refusing to learn to beat them (aka persist in making the same mistake) is about as close to the definition as you can get. The complaining part is just icing on the cake.
Again, I’m not trying to make enemies here, I’m not trying to tell anyone they suck or they have no hope in fighting games. I am trying to say that there are those who refuse to learn so they complain about the game.
If you refuse to learn and you quit, that’s fine.
If you refuse to learn and you keep playing and losing, that’s fine.
If you refuse to learn and you complain that it’s the games fault, see above.
It’s widely accepted that a scrub is someone who thinks they know shit but don’t really. It’s been confused because everyone uses it to talk shit in the fighting game community because the community is primarily made of idiots who have no life skills and nothing more to do with their lives than recycle jargon.
Also, let’s not pretend that most fighting games are balanced or reasonable. Let people vent. Who gives a shit? Who here is on the bitch police? We need to know so we can hide our stash.
his entire post is the definition of a scrub… J/k… Not really!
It’s really a hard word to define because so many people use it differently. I certainly don’t think your definition is wrong, but I don’t think mine is either. And I think yours still fits in with what I’m saying: The people complaining seem to think they know shit about Marvel, when really it sounds like they are so far beneath players that know what their doing. Complaining about Wolverine, I mean…really? He’s a good character: THEY ALL ARE. But he isn’t even high-tier and people are acting like he’s the best character ever, completely unbeatable, and they quit because there is no way they could ever handle him.
Flame war begins NOW!
You’re…dumb. And uh…skinny. No, I mean fat! I mean…I give up =/
Who is this guy???
Just a guy who plays Marvel tournaments, frequents Shoryuken, and knows some people in Tennessee.
I’m just some scrub, you’re welcome to ignore me =D
IronyNinja,
All bs aside though. There is just to much inconsistent stuff in that game. I still play it, but not on a serious level. And I am by no means good at any other game. I play SF mostly… I can assure you that I have pushblocked Wolve’s divekick and sometimes he goes far and other times he just lands right in front of me. I just dont get it. That is just one example of the craziness of that game.
At times with Akuma, I can divekick downward, catch shuma and sometimes the S will hit and other times it wont… This is in the corner mind you, at the same distance everytime almost.
Again, I suck at the game, but little things like this are a complete WTF… just can’t take it serious is all.
I’ll say that mvc is fun game, but I can’t play a game where blocking wrong once loses me a character.
I know it’s a team game so it really equals 33.3 of total team life.
That being said, for all the shit that happens it’s too much life for so small a mistake.
I hope the rest you have fun though while I watch.
I am definitely forced to agree with you. There is a factor of randomness that makes Marvel very exciting to watch (He dropped out of the combo! He can make a comeback! HYYPPPPE!) but frustrating to play (I had the match and the guy dropped out of my combo! WTF?).
Both the examples you give I have seen multiple times, but you have to keep in mind both are react able occurances. If Wolverine doesn’t get very far away from you he may still be in your face but at least your still blocking and have another chance to pushblock his next move. When assists are called pushblock is lessened: Perhaps the Wolv player was hitting you with an assist too? Also, Advancing Guard has a huge window: Like 10-20 frames after you block. Even a small change in the frame you hit your AG on can effect how far the opponent is flunge away.
As for the Akuma example, I imagine you can L-M-H-S after the divekick, which would cut down the damage but give you consistency. This may effect an enemy dropping out further down the line however, or may not even be possible. I don’t play Akuma so my execution experience is limited, but I have friends that do so I could ask them for solutions if you’d like.
Really it’s even worse than that. Losing a character losing you their assist and DHC capabilities. Even more frightening is some characters/teams have insane mixup upon their opponent entering, which can easily lead to another hit or another dead character. X-23/Hold assist with 3 meters can even hold you in place as you come in and hit you with Dirt Nap unavoidably (unless you play Sentinel and hard drive through, or Hsien-Ko in armored mode, or Morrigan level 3 as you come out, or Dark Phoenix with 5 bars, although thats surviving not avoiding), combo from Dirt Nap (which his her level 3) into Ankle Slice into her Level 1 super. This will kill anyone that doesn’t have high life and severely cripple those that do.
However, I do disagree that blocking wrong once loses someone a character. It CAN, but doesn’t always: It’s dependent on meter, X-factor, the character, the characters assists, the enemys character, team aerial crossovers, and of course the skill level of both players.
LOL, never a dull moment…
Guys, please wish Richard and Rob luck at the PDP tournament this weekend, they spent an arm and a leg to get over there and I’m just finishing up pools now…158 entrants so far…they are the only two players from TN in the tournament.
GGs to all this past weekend at Gaming Galaxy!!!
Kodee - Fuck Kung “Colossus” Lao. lol GGs though and thanks a ton for the Fat Boys introduction. BBQ feast ftw! Good luck on your move to the sunshine state. Hopefully we’ll meet again before then.
JFord - You’re such a cool dude that I cant even get mad about that Raiden shit. I just laugh at how stupid it is and keep losing. lol Also thank you for the Yang tips. Cant wait to for AE to hit consoles so I can get some more traing in. GGs
Astaroth - Goodshit with team “touch of death”. I got hit twice and hello loser bracket.
Boomcube - A hate Wesker and Wolvie. They’re such “just do it” characters. Hit or miss whatever and just do it again. lol. GGs
Storyteller - Wish I had fought you in Winner’s bracket so I could’ve used Jax. It was too risky when the match we played was for some monies. The match was indeed fun and very intense. Nice shit with Kabal as well.
Dream - Goodshit as always on running a smooth and professional tournament. Wish I had used Shang but my lack of experience would’ve screwed me in the end I think lol. How do you feel about Kang against the top kharacters?
About Marvel : Everyone else in Memphis just needs to stop pressing buttons so much. Marvel is indeed a “stupid” game, but not so much that you guys make it out to be. You lose because did something you weren’t suppose to. If you lose, it’s on you.
158 so far for a tournament in Vegas!!! Thats pretty good considering it’s MK… Looks like alot of people decided to travel! Wish I could have went. But yes, Good Luck to Rich and Rob.
IronyNinja,
I am going to give Marvel a little more time before stopping all together. If It wasn’t for Magneto, I honestly would not be playing. Character is too boss. Hopefully, I can overcome the craziness of the game and learn all the basics real good! We shall see though!
Oh wow that’s this weekend? Good luck guys and try and have some fun while you’re down there!
It’s true. Good games, dude, I wanna play you again at the next Memphis tourney.
Marvel’s horseshit, but it’s super fun.
Poshib: Liu Kang is solid but he has a couple of bad things going for him that I am sure you are aware of…recovery time on fireballs thrown non airborne, and lack of a teleport. He has a hell of a mix-up game though with lows into combos and overheads and pop-ups but against the upper area of the cast:
He does ok vs Shang and Kung Lao, loses to Raiden…Smoke gives him problems too; you basically have to be on top of the guy always so I would say he’s a much faster version of Jax without a Ground Pound (which can be risky anyway) but he’s a better choice for the upper tier than Jax…
Someone over there should give Kabal a try, he is highly dirty…
having to expect and/or react to a “factor of randomness” in a fighting game pretty much sounds like the definition of a badly designed game. not the other player doing “random” things, but the game itself. a lot of people have no fun putting up with that shit, especially when they’re trying to take the game seriously. that’s why a lot of people don’t take it seriously.
