The NEW Official Xbox® Thread: $399 system without Kinect coming in June

By that time the majority of the established base for the exclusive would be on Microsoft’s system any ways. Plus this is a new era of gaming so we don’t know exactly what could happen a year or 2 down. Right now the Xbox One has more exclusive games that I’d like to play going with that. Plus I like that it’s trying to bring some actual new stuff to gaming that might actually catch on. A juiced up system is nice, but it’s nice to see a system that innovates like the Wii while still retaining traditional gameplay options. Seems like a nice mix.

What are these innovations you speak of? Really, what do you see changing about gaming this generation? Do you think the Kinect will do something revolutionary to change the way we game? Or the Cloud?

VR seems cool. Wouldn’t a more juiced up system be able to pull off something like VR better?

For everyone talking about 2K14… Why? Console release sports games always suck. I can’t remember one that’s ever been better than its last gen counterpart. 2K15 will almost certainly be worth a purchase on a new console, but 14? A massive amount of historical evidence says otherwise.

If they can find a way to do VF without putting something huge on your head, I might be into that. Like google glasses that let you see shit. Putting a huge ass thing on your head is not a VR I’d be personally interested in anytime soon. The technology wouldn’t be really marketable to masses for a long time and I definitely don’t see the form where you put something larger than lens glasses on your head working out in the long run. There’s a reason no one’s really tried to market anything with heft to it like the Virtual Boy out the masses. It’s just too sci fi and clunky.

With the Kinect, even more so than your body being the controller (which IMO is the ultimate way to do any motion device), the ability to do face and hand gesture and use your voice to basically add buttons to your Xbox controller seems like something that could work in the long run. I think it would work well for a lot of single player based games. The Kinect being able to recognize your button setup, character and color for a fighting game would be great also.

I honestly think motion gaming should be a staple for video games regardless because it generally makes video games more accessible to the entire public rather than just those that like to press on a controller. Plus a nice way to get people to exercise without going outside. It really should be a standard and Microsoft sees that the best way to do it is to do it where the player doesn’t have to hold anything. It’s 2013…you shouldn’t have to hold anything to do motion sensing anymore. I believe people will finally warm up to it when they realize it doesn’t really take away from their traditional way of playing games and really adds to it.

The cloud sounds like something that will help even out the whole “lets crunch numbers on a spec sheet” stuff that people usually rate systems on. If they can make a game that can just have new content and literally be able to put more stuff on the screen just by being connected to the internet, that’s pretty much a new era of gaming in general right there.

I dont know man, i think VR games can be pretty sweet…Especially FPS or even sports games…If they can implement something like Oculus Rift into this gen console, i dont mind wearing the big ass headset…

If anything good comes from Kinect 2, it’s not going to be from the AAA/mainstream publishers (they’re going to pump out the same shitty sports/exercise titles & fuck up conventional games with half-assed motion-control overlays like before), but rather the indie devs.

Kinect 1 was far, far more interesting as a tool for DIY robotics enthusiasts than it ever was for gaming. Now that every Xbox comes w/ Kinect & the console itself can supposedly be used as a devkit, this will be the device’s sink or swim moment. If we start to see some truly creative stuff (even if the graphics are not cutting edge) from indie & garage devs, then that’s something to get excited about for Kinect, imo.

Yeah there really is a lot I feel the devs can do with Kinect for games since it is plain and obvious that Kinect is THE motion gaming device. It shits on all of the other ones free. That is no lie. It is the last one you ever need.

It’s just they threw it out on the 360 as a concept that just happened to take off cuz people were like “oh shit I can use my body to be a controller for cute games”. Yet, the facial and voice recognition to set up your profile and run brackets through the console for a fighting game would be great. Plus making Kinect let your body and voice work alongside your controller to basically improve the functionality of your controller. I really think that this is their chance to really get devs to throw this out there and make it work for games like it really can.

Plus, as gimmicky as it is, I’m not going to complain about being able to wave my hands and use my voice to go through menus and watch TV. Yeah why…but…why not? LOL.

I want some mystical/alien angle in Ryse. Does that make me a bad person? Roman Gears of War sounds appealing-ish but I want some out-of-left-field twist, preferably early.

i agree. i don’t have a ton of faith in crytek making a fun game, and it will probably be beautiful and play okay. but ryse honestly looks boring as fuck.

they need to ecco the dolphin that shit.

It won’t. That’s just not how it works. At most you’ll have asset data streamed from these servers (who would want to stream GB’s of texture data through a 50ms latency connection, if you’re lucky?) but the processing of those assets will still be handled by your console. There is absolutely no way that Microsoft has invested in an infrastructure of systems that will literally run these processes for you and then stream the data to your home system so that your graphics will look a little bit better. That would just be the most expensive, ridiculously roundabout way of doing things instead of just putting slightly better hardware in every box. It just does not work like that.

Games have been getting updates through an internet connection for a while now.

Sonicabid spoke my mind.
:))

Really, im honestly trying to figure out why these guys would go Xbox One over PS4 right now. Brand loyalty? One or two games that will probably be on PS4 in 6 months to a year?

All the reading Ive done it seems the best thing to do would be to pick up a PS4 now and wait a year or two for Xbox One.

Killer Instinct most likely. I can’t knock buying an entire console for one game.

I will. That shit is just stupid. No way is one game worth 4 or 5 hundred bucks.

I honestly believe its brand loyalty thats driving these guys’ purchase decision. The hardcore dudebros. Thats why there is only a few people in here talking about getting it.

Ive been talking with friends on Facebook. All of them own an 360, im the only one that has a PS3 and 360. All but one of them is picking up a PS4. One guy is sticking to M$. I asked him why and he said because thats what hes use to. I asked the other guys why go PS4 and they all said because its cheaper and they’re tired of M$ and XBL.

Two of the Pro PS4 guys didnt about PS+ so I told them about that. At first they were turnd off at the thought of having to pay to play online…even though they do now. Anyway, I linked to lists showing what you get without the service and what you get with it. They both said they were still staying PS4, but if Xbox One did something similar they might also pick up a One.

@mowr, well the concept is nice at least. It was originally Sony that said they were going to use the cloud service so I was already interested in the PS4 at first because of the concept. It’s not like Microsoft was the only ones talking about it. Which the most basic form of the concept was having access to streamed versions of every single Playstation game ever made. Which sounded pretty cool. If the only thing they were feasibly able to do with the Cloud was that, I’d be fine with that. It was just later on in Microsoft’s E3 that Microsoft also brought up the Cloud and went into other specifics about adding to games AI and graphics etc.

If the concept can at least stream an entire library of Playstation games, that’s a good sign of stuff to come I say. I’m not a graphics guy so it doesn’t hurt me either way.

Yeah outside of the graphics, I’m not a big fan of historic throw back video games. The game also does look pretty boring to me and there are other exclusives that much more fit would I like to play coming later. I’m sure it’ll end up being a semi big hit cuz it looks good and maybe has some interesting kinect features, but it just doesn’t look like something I wanna play. Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon and Dead Rising 3 are much more things that I would want to play at launch. Then Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break and Titanfall being stuff I’ll check out after launch.

Preference and it has more things I’m specifically looking for. Just like how not everyone likes to play SFIV even though it’s the best fighting game ever made that everyone plays at Evo…not trying to play what everyone says is the best system. Doesn’t have Killer Instinct which I’ve waited a long time for a sequel for and has a big emphasis on listening to the customer and adding in features that are still regularly missing from 60 dollar fighting game titles. Plus I really like the payment system to allow anyone to get in play and will most likely be the future of fighting games. I’ll be playing that for most likely the entire span of the next gen. Especially if the netcode is strong and GGPO based.

Looking at the other stuff, if I am gonna have to play a god damned FPS…Titanfall certainly looks more fun and innovative than the other stuff coming out. It reminds me of the old ones I used to play like Shogo and Unreal Tournament. Being able to jump in a mech and get new weapons is straight out of Shogo. Like it a lot. Sunset Overdrive looks like it’ll add something really refreshing to the 3rd person genre and just looks fun in general. Same with Quantum Break which looks like is being worked on by the Max Payne guys.

Past that I like that it is trying to push innovations in the way you interact with your games and the system itself. It helps to make it be a new system and not just a beefed up version of the one I was already using. Kinect, smart glass, cloud and dedicated servers all sounds like stuff that could make the future of games. Especially since they’re packing Kinect with the system and you can use something that’s in your pocket all of the time any ways for a second screen.

There’s no brand loyalty here. I have both a PS3 and 360. Like both for different reasons. Like that Marvel 3 runs better on Xbox 360, some of my other fighting games seem to run a bit better online on Xbox Live, like the interface of Xbox Live better also. With PS3 like that the system looks a bit sleeker and they have some interesting exclusives although I don’t really play them because I’ve pretty much been solely a fighting gamer since 2005.

The whole system war thing exists because people don’t have the money to buy both systems at launch or a while after. That’s what creates the war and gets people to pick sides. It’s just eventually as the systems get cheaper, things mellow out and you have a more traditional race. Eventually I’ll get a PS4, probably like different things between both systems…another system race gone by.

blame PC gamings exposure of game tweaking instead of respecting an artists work by unifying our perception of the world and characters they make

you guys can keep going around in circles, but if you want to stop just listen to me

Why would you think its brand loyalty? #1 Its Killer Instinct & #2 its the better multimedia player as of right now. Just note i thought the xbox 360 was one of the shittiest consoles with all red rings of light bullshit. If it wasn’t for SF2 HDR online experience I would probably not have gotten another 360 replacement.

Well, what else is there? That other guy keeps going on about shit like kinect but I have many doubts about that being anything more than a shovelware machine. The Cloud is all theory and it will never do anything great. Not until the US gets some super dope internet standard in every home. That wont happen for decades. Dedicated servers are cool. None of the games look particularly ineresting to me.

How is the Xbox One a better multimedia player than the PS4?

For one you can connect your cable box straight to the Xbox One allow you full control w/ voice commands via Kinect. Being able to swtich from cable, gaming, music, skype, etc…seamless will be amazing in my Home Theater. That’s why im contemplating in buying 2 Xbox One…One for my home theater & the other gaming…If Killer Instinct turns out to be great i might even buy 3 just to have a dedicated cab for Killer Instinct.

All I do to switch between those things now is push a button or turn my head to the side lol. Its pretty seamless.

So its not really better it just uses a different control method, right?
