The NEW Official Xbox® Thread: $399 system without Kinect coming in June

Zzzzzzzz

With fighting games 60 fps has always been required any way. If there’s a big jump in the amount of things on screen and the textures are improved, ill take that.

some games down resolution but hardware will upscale to whatever resolution its supposed to be native at. usually its a tradeoff for slow down.

but ms has been upscaling all through last generation. they do AA at a hardware level and it was essentially costless. halo 3 and gow3 ran at 640p but you could upscale it to 1080p and people thought it looked good (those people just haven’t experienced good graphics).

360 could underperform like crazy but still maintain some visual fidelity with the hardware upscaling without taking a performance hit, so the idea might be similar going into this generation. If you owned a 360 and were constantly wow’ed by the graphics, the simple added raw power will be amazing to you, even if it is still underperforming, because people simply don’t know better.

Yeah, Imma wait & see how long you can woo Japanese devs again MS. You went in hard early on (Mistwalker, Vesperia, Ace Combat 6, buncha SNK XBLA games, etc), but things tapered off pretty quickly. Can’t really blame them given the buying habits of the Japanese market itself, but I ain’t having any of their rhetoric.

I thought going into the Dreamcast all games would be locked at 60fps with minimal load times, Ye here we are in 2013, locked at 30…

Don’t forget load times are just being masked with long ass cutscenes as well. Why improve gameplay when the audience has proven they don’t give a shit and will keep giving you money anyway?

Dat sub-HD. A lot of games this gen ran at sub-HD on both consoles. Gaming on PC at actual HD resolutions+DX11 features for the past year is pretty nuts coming off of console gaming most of this gen.

This makes re-playing games like Max Payne 3 a bitch on consoles without a fast 7200 RPM HDD or SSD.

If you’re a performance whore, get a PC. Games that run @ sub-30 FPS on consoles run @ 60-120FPS+ on PC.

As passe’ as it sounds, free Rainbow Six: Vegas via Games for Gold caught my interest. Maybe I could get the R6 millionaires together for one last run (even though I got to play with them maybe once or twice the first time around)…

I used to play the old Rainbow Six games on Xbox original. Fun, but glitchy. I played a lil bit of Vegas but never tried the multiplayer.

Titan Fall is the game that will justify xone for me.

I keep hearing about Titan Fall, i haven’t seen the trailer or anything…Too lazy to look it up but Killer Instinct & original Killer Instinct does it for me.

Yo my only complaint about Max Payne 3 is how replaying it can be a pain in the ass cuz you HAVE TO watch the cutscenes, not cuz they are unskippable, but because the damn game is still loading. Yea sure it worked for the first play through but repeates? Man. I lost interest in trying to find everything and do the scoring stuff in that game pretty damn fast just because of how you have to sit through those cinematics every time.

Other then that tho, that game was the shit.

I just found this article on another site, how accurate would you guys say it is?

http://www.waroftheconsoles.com/debunked.htm

what’s the best xbox site now? the only one i used was teamxbox but it got hacked and the boards are spammed all to hell.

j;o

Biased, sucks.

Haven’t been on any video game sites lately in general so don’t know about good Xbox sites.

On a SF forum where people drop $200 for joysticks (then mod them for more money on top), buy multiple copies of the same game, buy specific monitors to play a game as lag free as possible, and you’re going to say that?

And honestly, I don’t think there is any brand loyalty involved, everyone of my friends whom is getting an XBOne has a PS3 also. I’m being honest about this, things that you’re trying to shoot it down for aren’t negatives. People act as though ‘timed exclusives aren’t a big deal’ (ask and CoD PS3 player that) - well it means the consoles are getting the same games - which as has been discussed will more htan likely perform identically despite the PS4 being the stronger system from a hardware perspective.

So you have two systems who in all likelihood will perform identically on 95% of AAA titles.

Then the next thing to look at is exclusives. At that point its “What you prefer” so there is no right or wrong. From a launch perspective, the XBOne’s launch games are more interesting to me - yes - namely Killer Instinct. The PS4 has games that I will want when they are ready, but they won’t be launch titles. So (as I’ve mentioned before) when the time comes, I’ll get a PS4, but in terms of fighting for holiday money - the XBOne is more bang for buck for me as I’ll actually want to play it this winter.

The next thing to look at is your friends. I ONLY bought a 360 because I felt I was missing out on the social experience. So where friends go, that’s where I’ll flock. for right now, my friends are typically on the XBOne wagon, so I’m going to roll with them.

It’s really that simple. Nothing else about the consoles is going to amount to anything significant. The multimedia experience will play out (long run) to be identical. The XBox can do some ‘other’ stuff, but very few will actually get anything worthwhile out of it (just being honest).

I just don’t see anything else said by EITHER company amounting to anything more than lipservice, and as such I aint worried bout nothing.

Nah. The Wii U fails in two categories…its STILL shortsided from a hardware perspective…and the games still are way too few to mention. And I see this as an owner. Though thru a twist of irony, I want more Wii U games for Xmas this year (Pikmin 3 & Wonderul 101) than any other console (granted that’s because I just buy them shizz)

  • :bluu:

I actually think the Wii U is going to die early. It’s entirely too weak to compete, the tablet cost too much and is limited to one player right now, and developers aren’t doing ‘exclusives’. The only niche for the Wii U is going to be “Nintendo Games!”.

I think next gen will mirror this gen but sony and M$ will be reveresed. Sony will be stronger out the gate and M$ will never really out sell them, but the gap will shrink to ‘functionally non-existant’ over time.

with that said the Wii U troller does feel good in your hand. And I’m a 6’6" dude with monster hands. Even my two year old holds it comfortably. It won’t be as good for FPS as the Big Two’s will, but dammit if only developers took advantage of it…

People being worked up by systems like its Sega VS Nintendo in 2013 is truly sad. There’s a lot of hobbies where you have to spend a lot more money than you do for a launch next gen system to maintain the hobby any way. People can say all they want about not enough value, but every products offerings are going to seem more or less valuable to different people.

Not going to be buying a PS4 on launch just cuz its cheaper and gives away more free games. Xbox One has the games I want on launch (and for the near future with stuff like Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break and Titanfall coming) any ways. Plus if systems are going to be forcing this motion gameplay stuff on us, it might as well be something that comes with the system and doesn’t force us to put more shit in our hands or on our faces.

Does anyone know more about the $9.99 upgrade program where you can upgrade your xbox 360 game to xbox one for $9.99…

I want to know if i can use the 360 game once i do the transfer or is there like somekind of lockout code?

That Eurogamer headline disappoints me. Upon actually reading it, it reveals that 10% of the Xbox’s GPU is reserved for Kinect, & that devs will be able to access some of it in the future.

Please go back to just covering the facts, Digital Foundry. Leave the spin for the main Eurogamer articles.
