The new NEW Dayton, OH thread

Yeah if you have the necessary equipment.

That sounds like a decent idea but get ready to fight that kid that plays smash bros by himself all the time.

Seriously though, I have pretty much every day of the week free except for Wednesdays. I live about 20 mins away from illuminaudi so wouldn’t mind driving over there and paying $5 to play fighting games.

Also, I have a softmodded ps2 and another ps2 with a spare network adapter and a spare hard drive that i can softmod. I have HnK, CvS2, Arcana Heart and I am trying to get more.

I don’t really play anything seriously at the moment but sf4. but i’m willing to pick up and learn others. i’m terrible at fighting games really.

as long as you drop brawl your cool LOL. Just keep posted on this thread… we usually have alot of gathering. if you have AIM hit me up…

Arkayne937

Oh shit, no…I don’t play brawl, I meant that there’s a kid there at illuminaudi that plays smash bros on one of the TVs there all the time! it’s not me!

Needs moar HDR.

Goddammit, my fucking Xbox just red ringed.

I’d love to talk with him! I could learn how to record over Skype or have him drive out on my dime. We could talk about GG as a game, his opinion on BlazBlue, and just about him as a player. I’d also love to talk to Dayton players because you guys are my immediate scene.

And yes, I’d love to branch out to the entire Midwest at some point.

I’d also be an interested party in bi-weekly Illuminaudi mini-tourneys. It’s not too far away from me for something that isn’t too often, but just often enough. I like the cheaper than a movie angle too!

@Murderbydeath: Maybe the Xbox couldn’t handle the MvC2 DLC announcement?

I’d be in for a bi-weekly. However, nobody will be able to agree on a game to do a ranbat.

Sf4 would be the most obvious choice, and then brazbrue later on.

lets have hnk and marvel ranbats. Quan, we must play marvel. Someone has to beat ghaleon and vdo haha they is beasty

If it’s bi-weekly, we could do 2 games at a time. I have already thought about this. There are plenty of TVs, so that won’t be an issue. I think the main thing will be A. getting people there and B. getting them to WANT to pay. I think it’s cute that in Japan you can win chips for playing fighting games, but here in the USA, if I’m paying money to compete, I had better be able to win money or at least something worth more than I paid to enter. No one wants to walk away with just bragging rights. What we NEED is some type of trophy… something you get to keep while you’re champion. We’ll turn it into a league… yes… Each week, the winner of each game’s ranbat gets some sort of trophy and each consecutive week they have the trophy after they win it. And what better trophy than selecting the next week’s game? PERFECT! Goddamn I’m amazing. The winner of the bi-weekly gets to CHOOSE the next game they want to play until they’re dethroned. Of course, they can’t just pick the game they’re winning at. The games will have to be on a list of randonly generated games. So, the winner is king until someone else decides that they’re not by besting them.

Now, as far as charging for this goes… I have a big boy job and plenty of money but that doesn’t mean the rest of you do or even have the means by which to get to these on your own. Local would be better and not paying to be there would be the best. However, what I propose is this: We make it a league. Everyone who joins the league pays a flat amount once/X period, be it a month, 3 months. Whatever, I’ll figure it out. But, that will give us a list of who is playing, what they play and what they want to get better at. Each Bi-week can have something different about it. Maybe we’ll play an additional RANDOM game with some ZANY powerup.

Anyway, thoughts?

Are you guys talking about bi-weekly tournies? That’s pretty cool.

I hope you guys single a weekend out every couple months though to do a bigger-style tourney though (TvU) to make sure all the travelers converge at the same event

Yeah, I’m going to try to keep these to every few months. Give people some practice, let it build hype then I’ll run another one. Of course, with EVO on the horizon, I don’t want to do anything too early or too late. But yeah, if I do something bigger, I’ll keep it real.

I like the ideas but a charging a flat rate for a league might not be a good idea. Personally, I might not be able to make it every time even though i’d want to.

I love the idea of random games, I hope something silly like Breakers Revenge shows up on it.

Really like the idea, and honestly since I’m one of the newer peeps to the scene wondered why SRK hasn’t organized and done something like this to begin with.

Them FPS doofus’s have had leagues since the interwebs blew up, and now they get to be on tv playing games that normal people can’t hope to follow…But everyone I know has gotten hype watching that classic Daigo parry clip…

/tangent

I think running two separate games/pools would be for the best. As in, starting with 2-D and 3-D, since Tekken 6 IS coming out this year, and that’ll be bigger then SC4 was.

That and a stipulation on the winners picking the game. If there’s two different pools of games, then maybe the winner in one pool can’t be the same game that was run not just that week, but the week before…otherwise you’d get the same game every other week.

I.E. I win GG (Ha…) I pick 3rd for the next time. I win 3rd (again…Ha, but not as much Ha as GG after this weekend…) I pick GG…

Good leagues have parody. People love the NFL because there’s always a chance your team can do something (Unless Ironically you live in Ohio and Michigan…). If you force the winner to not keep picking the same games back to back, you’d force me in that example to do something stupid like say pick Mahvel, or SFHD, or SF4, or even go 3-D with SC4 or Tekken…Thus the league has parody, as none of us are a dominant force in three separate games, but if it DOES happen, well you clearly deserve it…I.E. being the Pats or Colts where making the playoffs is a given.

Added then that we’d have two separate pools to choose from, there’s still the chance you’d get 3rd every week, or GG, or SF4…but since it’s different pools you’d still get different games…If that makes sense.

I love that idea, and if two different games could be run on a single day that would just be too good. That way no one would feel left out if they haven’t been practicing or just plain don’t like game x that is being played.

Maybe the initial fees could pay for real trophies too. That way someone has something shiny to take home and keep. Then when they get dethroned the trophy changes hands? Anyone serious enough to win would probably take good enough care of something like that.

What else could fees go toward? Cash prize? Food? Maybe even a fundraiser for local arcades?

In any event, a league is an awesome idea that I would certainly take part in.

But this is what will REALLY force people to practice these games.

I almost beat VDO by a pixel:shake:

I like that idea Josh. League/Ranbat would be great. You know I’m up for just about anything not 3D. Maybe instead of a trophy give medals (I’m just thinking cost). You could also talk to the owner and ask if he could do what some arcades do, such as people putting up big win streaks get a free drink or something. I know you said the owner is a crook, but maybe he’d budge on something like that, considering we’d be feeding him new $ anyway.

Ninja Edit: Would anyone like to play games today? I have the day off of work and school, so I’m looking for something to do. Jordyn HDR maybe?

Josh, I like your idea, but I’m not sure I fully understand it. If we have two ranbats at each gathering, and I win one but not the other, who gets the trophy? Would it be based on some overall combined score?

Also, not sure about the flat rate per period thing. I was hoping this would be more of an open participation thing, and I think this model discourages people from joining in late, or from joining in if they know there will be a couple dates where they definitely won’t be there. I was hoping maybe we could advertise this locally and get some unknown SF4 scrubs out or something, and I think it would be more comfortable for them if we approached it more casually.

Again, I don’t fully understand what you are proposing, but if I’m a scrub, I’m not going to pay extra to enter games that I’ve never played before, or to give the winner who I’ve never met before some sort of prize.

Anyway, I’m sure you’ve thought this through more than I have, so I’m behind it no matter what we decide to do, just consider these things if you haven’t and clarify for me if you can.

Yeah, sure. I’m about to head to the Rusty Bucket here in a bit to grab some food and my phone isn’t operational (long story, just know that Cricket is the worst fucking place/phone service ever). Should be back by no later than 6:00.

Oh, my Xbox red ringed, but I do have the PS3 version and a PS2 -> PS3 converter. Or you could bring your box.

Or we could play 3rd Strike.

Or we could play something else.

My roommate said you can call him if you want to stop by. His number is 513.593.6366, since my phone isn’t operational.
