Ok I should be done with dinner around 5:30, I’ll give your roomie a call. I can bring my Xbox, I’ve wanted to play HDR a little.
Sounds good. I’m about to grab a shower and then head out, so I dunno if we’ll be done then, but should be no later than 6:00-6:30.
I do have plenty of Bison Bucks.
So Josh, how soon are we talkin’ 'bout starting this thang? Next week? Week after? June? I’m getting kind of pumped. Also, what day are we looking at? Does Friday work?
I might be interested in showing up to one of those bi-weeklies so long as we can get GG going.
What I’d propose would be a rotation of games.
Week 1: SFIV and HD Remix
Week 3: GG and 3S
Week 5: Marvel and SCIV
repeat
following a rotation like that would just make travel so much easier. Getting down south for one weekend every month and a half is definitely doable. Given the likelihood of big turnouts, it’d probably just make more sense to do SFIV and another game every single time but then other games will get neglected.
Since it seems that the owner of Illuminaudi is a cheapskate, I don’t see any reason to do this ranbat style and give the overall leader for each game a prize. Just run these as small, individual tournaments. Like $5 venue and $5 for each game you enter. 70-30-10, 3rd place is guaranteed to at least get its entry fee back. “League” pay doesn’t make sense for something like this. If it was much more local for everyone and was every week, then it’d make perfect sense. But due to our widespread nature and since pretty much everyone is strapped for cash, making it to each event just isn’t possible.
Sounds really cool, I dont have any sort of cash flow, so I may not be able to participate that much, or at all if you have to pay a flat rate. I’m going to get good at marvel just you wait.
You’ll have me to play online all the time ;D
If you ever get a box.
ahem , so I think all of you guys needs to support this guy.
Umm so flamingos in the dayton mall and fairfield commons mall will be selling the tshirts I design in their stores… officially this week. The guy I design for is meeting with their manager tomorrow todiscuss the costs and what not and what we shall be getting payed.
Not to mention they said if they sell well… GLOBAL exposure Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttch! Go Support Me ! lulz!
See what I’m saying? 5 bucks isn’t so much that it would hurt me to pay for a friend as well as myself every once in a while.
Eric, I was actually thinking it might be a good idea to run sf4 every week, along with some other game. It would be good to get the scrubs coming out and introduce them to competitive play in other games.
Problem with having 5$ tournaments is that it discourages people from playing. If we do it that way, I’m only going to be entering Guilty Gear each time it comes around, and if I’m feeling especially down on myself and Mac has won the previous 3 times we had GG, I’ll I won’t even enter that. If we make it so that just getting in the building lets you play the tournament/ranbat without any additional fee, then I’ll enter anything (yes, even Brawl). Also, we’ll have casuals in all the usual games every time, so if you get a weekend and you feel like getting some matches in, you won’t have to necessarily wait for GG week to come around.
Edit: ROSS! GJ bruh!
Edit again: guys I’ll be there tomorrow (wednesday) with GG fags. Gimme a call and come out if you feel like.
If this is going to happen I hope we can agree to support all games that get picked. Isn’t that the whole point?
I can see people going “this isn’t one of the two games I like, I’m going back home” and then we are back where we started.
I’m willing to get into GG and lolcalibur (which I haven’t touched in 09 at all) and I would like my wins in smash and marvel in return.
Another point I was considering is giving people the option to opt out of a session or two, and be givin a median score for the week, rather than the worst score. We all have conflicting schedules, and I think some people on the fence would sign up if missing a session was acceptable.
Of course, people would use this to avoid games but oh well…

Thought you might appreciate this, Adam. Check the debuff.
put up pics and i will consider making the trip.
Cross posting so all Midwesterners interested in entering the Midwest Evo SF4 5 on 5 qualifier know that the 5 on 5 sticky has been updated with more solid info regarding the qualifiers! Good luck Ohio!
There was a long post coming with this, but screw it.
Matt is trying to do this to get everyone in our community to play basically every game with maybe a few exceptions here or there. If you think Adam got third in 3rd strike just becaues he plays online and not because he got real time play against a majority of the matchups…and basically every matchup you’ll see at high level play, then you’re really not paying attention.
Everyone who entered 3rd at this tournament for Dayton got at least one win, and probably could’ve gotten two. That’s from matchups, collaborating and helping each other out.
Now fine, whatever, Dayton can be known for having a solid core of 3rd players…but why can’t we be know for just being solid fighting gamers in general? If people aren’t gonna show up not because of real life(because everyone gets that. Job, school, parties, gf whatever, do you)…but because it’s a game you don’t care about, then why even bother doing it? Everyone in our group has such defined styles of play, and those translate from game to game, which means we’d just be covering more and more matchups, no matter how good or bad you are. Getting the experience is knowing what you CAN do, what combos to use, the other characters range, blah blah…
So…I’ve been a willing participant for just about any game people have wanted to play…cause I got what Matt was saying, and I had an idea about it even before he said it. But…if I’m just getting shafted yet again on the GG side, then I’ll stop being fooled about this reaalll quick…
Well for me, its a matter of paying 5$ every week(which would add up fast) and getting there with no car. I have no problem playing every game, even though i don’t care much about SF4 or HDR. I think I could manage if someone can pick me up.
Honestly that’s the only problem I have also. Unlike Josh Queen, I don’t have a big boy job and during the summer I’ll have even less money.
On top of that, I enjoy playing every game, but I’m just throwing this out there so don’t start going off if you disagree with me, but isn’t picking a few games that you especially like and practicing them much easier than trying to learn everything? I just find it easier to focus on a few games rather than trying to be Jwong. x_x
If it happens, I’ll try to show up however much I can, and of course I’m always down for a WSU gathering if people just want to do casuals, but I can’t guarantee that I’m 100% in.
That being said, if people want to start bringing shit to WSU and playing I’m down to learn anything. Hell Fred is even getting me back into GG. I’ll be checking the forums often so if you need some practice and you think I would be good enough to give you a challenge don’t be afraid to holla <3
Everyone has their two main games that they’ll play.
What Matt is trying to get people doing though is to expand the knowledge base exponentially. If I know some basic junk about Faust, I-No, Order Sol and Robo Ky…I’m not going to be nearly as surprised when I see something weird in a tournament vs. them.
I don’t dedicate any major time other then to GG or 3rd, but I will play other games when I’m up to it, and every once in awhile I might screw around with another game. I know enough about Blanka, Gen, Sakura to help out a little for peoples SF4 and SFHD matchups…I some Lizardman for SC, I know Mahvel, I just don’t have the needed reflexes to be great, but I have enough shennanigans here and there to make some things work, and I just need to really learn a new char in Tekken for me to maybe almost kinda be able to compete with Kam in that. I used to know some smash too, with Melee, and that mess transfers over somewhat to Brawl, and I don’t MIND playing Brawl anyway so I could jump into that again.
That’s basically every game everyone plays. I get smashed in everything but GG, 3rd and depending on who I play in HD or Mahvel…but it’s good experience for me, because I learn more…and at the very least it gives people chances to practice combos on chars they might not practice on in training mode.
/shrug I don’t think its TOO much to ask, especially since a game you’re good at would come around. If we’re a crew, we gotta collaborate a ton more…because we’re seeing first hand whats it’s done for our 3rd Strike core.
next time you guys are in da nati be very careful and dont commit crimes
If you’re there, you’re playing everything that’s there. You’re exactly right. The point of this would be the forced exposure of different and strange games to the mix. But, this would come to a vote. I’m not going to force people to play SSBB if only one person wants to play it. These have to be games with a moderate interest from the get go to get people here. In the future, if we need to amend it, that’s fine. I’m still working out the logistics, but I’ll let you all know when I have something solid.
