lol, OK my bad, I guess I should refer to it as The Legend is born ^_^;
The fights in Legends is born>Ip man 1 & 2
The fights were good but Donnie Yen taking down all those Karate fighters is just…wow
Anyone seen Founding Of A republic? Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen are the main guys. Stephen Chpw’s in it as well. Also, watch the three Ip Man films; Ip Man 1 and 2, and Legend Of Ip Man that is set when Ip Man was young. Ip Man’s actual son Ip Chun stars as the master of Ip Man in this film. Donnie Yen is in Ip Man 1 and 2, not legend though.
yep, the fights mostly are wow. especially in 2 where he fights the twister
Do NOT be conned by that movie. Those 3 are not the stars of the film and hardly show up at all. They’re pushed on the cover so the movie sells.
Legend is Born has far less accurate Wing Chun.
They dubbing it for a release here huh. Movie is cool, but it is weird. Nigga with the armor is cold blooded though. It might be on netflix already.
And on The Legend is Born, of course it had inacurate wing chun. That was the whole point of the movie. The fights were WAY better on average than the other Ip movies. Not just a bunch of chain punching.
yeah, i found out today about the film. Sad really, I’d have liked to see a lot of epic battles with them three. The chinese poster for the film shows the real cast, but the english just decided to do the cover like that. Risky move i reckon. I still yet to see Legend is born, I find it cool that my dad’s Si Gong (grandmaster) is in the film. Another martial art film that’s just came out is called All’s well End’s Well 2011. It’s a comedy, and not an actual action film but Donnie Yen’s in it and there’s some alright laughs as far as i’ve seen. He plays a make-up artist then one part; he does this woman’s face with two brushes but starts using wing chun on her and she humourously gets beat. It might be too crazy for your tastes, but it might be decent.
I thought the whole point of Legend is to use what works for you. Wasn’t that the whole point of the film of why his traditional master was mad at Ip man? Anyway, the lead actor Dennis To is a Wing Chun expert & a dicsiple of the real Ip Man son, Ip Chun…Even Ip Chun himself says that this is more accurate film…Unlike Donnie who had a crash course in Wing Chun…I dont study Wing Chun so i wouldn’t know but here’s the video

Here’s the video Legend is Born with Dennis To vs Ip Chun

Speaking of Legend is Born crew, this one looks good…

I’ve studied and still do, the wing chun philosophy teaches to not use strength and only the chi, said by the master himself. Seems the films are pretty accurate, if only they had a wing chun fighter in street fighter or something.
Considering it’s the Wing Chun Sifu’s that are saying it, I’m more inclined to take their word for it. Wing Chun certainly doesn’t teach “whatever works for you”, if it did, not only would you see an incredible amount of deviations, but Bruce Lee wouldn’t have needed to create JKD, which he created because Wing Chun on it’s own was too restrictive for what he wanted to do.
If either movie were accurate to Master Yip’s actual story, he’d be a policeman at some point during the story and he’d also be getting smashed on opium. Ip Chun say’s it’s a more accurate movie because despite both being extremelly fantastical from his actual life (no funnily enough he didn’t have an evil Japanese brother, nor did he fight some over-the-top British Boxer), The Legend is Born does stick a little more closer to Yip’s story, for example, he actually does go to Hong Kong and get beaten by Leung Bik, who teaches him. Donnie’s movies tend to lean towards the romanticised idea of Yip Man and Wing Chun, although there is also some truth in some of the scenes.
I’ve wanted that for a long time.
i see that as well. i’ve read the whole story of IP MAN, and there was points of one where he hit a prostitues stomach who had never been downed before. As well as a policeman’s gun being pointed towards him in which he parried the gun away.
I wonder why you keep saying Yip Man, when it is Ip Man. A lot of people have made that mistake, and believe me, I’ve already asked Ip Chun about that before.
Because that was his family name? it’s also what my Sifu refers to him as, who incidently trained under Ip Chun for a while. It’s also what every person in China we talk to at work says to us regarding these films. Every white person we deal with at work refers to him as Eye-Pee Man… he’s not fucking Intellectual Property Man or Internet Protocol Man, but yeah, that’s what they call him. Maybe it’s a Mandarin/Cantonese thing.
Lol, yeah, Ti lung had Ip Man down when he did Lighting Fist of Shaolin aka Opium and the Kung Fu Master.
ah, well I guess there’s names for him. There was also Ip Ching as well, ain’t heard about him though. My Sifu just calls him Ip Man, and then so on. When I first heard the name Ip Man (I was young then) I thought it was a superhero, until I saw the film and he was a master of Wing Chun. Do you do Wing Chun then?
Also, watch the film Wing Chun. It’s coincendetally set about Wing Chun, the bhuddist nun who without her then Winc Chun Kuen wouldn’t be here today, most likely.
So what’s the general opinion on Tiger Cage 1 and 2?
DLed Bunraku a couple of days ago… looks ok
Tiger Cage was ok but part 2 was flipping amazing…This was the movie that made me a huge fan of Donnie Yen, this is before all the fanboy jumped in…Its one of those crazy HK films back in the day, w/ good fights…Donnie vs black dude FTW
Kickass I’ll give TC1 a watch and tomorrow night will watch TC2 with my brother \m/
I do indeed. I train at the London Wing Chun Academy under Sifu Mark Phillips.
I have Michelle Yeoh’s Wing Chun already
