-The New Martial Arts Movie Thread-

Looked for some of the older threads but they have fallen off the map.

Recently been watching a lot of old Shaw Brothers flicks and I am currently enjoying Heroes of the East(aka Challenge Of The Ninja). It stars a very young Yasuaki Kurata, Gordon Liu and a few other faces Kung fu heads will recognize.

This movie is so great on all levels, and I can clearly see a lot of anime getting some of their ideas from this flick alone. Hilarious wife versus husband action going on as well as some sick ninja action.

Opium and the Kung fu master was another bad ass flick that I watched earlier this week. Very different with the subject material that it covers. Ti Lung does a great job as a Sifu dealing with an addiction to opium. Some really mean fighting in this flick as well.

I’ll add some links later and possibly some uploads as well.

What’s good that I can find on Netflix?

And I still want a copy of Hardboiled from the Criterion Collection.

I know Heroes of the East is on netflix.

Maybe you can try searching for these as well.

Shaolin Prince
Shaolin Intruders
Shaw Martial Arts Legends (double features)
Zu Warriors
3 Evil Masters
Dragon Fist
Warriors Two
Sleeping Fist
Bodyguards And Assassins
The Prodigal Son

Heroes of the East is awesome & its in my top 5 of all time! Im all about old school so if anyone want to know about certain older kung fu films let me know…

As for Netflix films check these out

Martial Club
Ten Tigers of Kwantung
Shaolin Intruders
Return of the 5 Deadly Venom
5 Deadly Venoms
Last Hurrah of Chivalry
Warriors Two

All classic kung fu films, there’s a lot of junk though in Netflix…There are more but i havent really check what’s available…Just went by the first 10 pages…

Pretty much look for Chang Cheh, Sammo Hung, Gordon Liu, Laur Kar Leung films, you should be ok…

Ip Man on netflix, do it.

Hell Rcaido, i bet you had to go through the samething after you married your asian wife. Fighting a whole clan of ninjas and shit.

Anyone know a good site to upload to that isn’t megavideo? It’s acting up for some reason and won’t let me put it on there for you guys. It has to be a site that allows you to put up big files cause all my flicks are over a gig in size.

Yeah i was well prepared…Been watching kung fu film almost 30 years now! Help me prepare against those in-ninjas!

I guess i got megavideo to stop tripping, gonna put up a link to Heroe’s of the East unless anyone has a problem with that?

Also you looking for Hard Boiled? That’s not really related to this thread but…pm and we can talk.

Estimated time left:
Elapsed time - Transfer rate: 00:54:14 (1.51 GB of 1.76 GB)
05:21:28 - 83 KB/s

And then it freezes…DAMN MEGAVIDEO!!!

Marital art movies? Dude, by leaving out TV shows, you’re missing out on half the fun. Its just damn hard to find subtitles for it. Legend of the condor heroes is the best, followed by Return of the motherfucking condor heroes, which btw fun fact, is why Andy Lau is so popular in China today. And obviously, only the '83 versions matter. fuck all the remakes.

Anyway, I hated shaw brothers at first, but now 5 deadly venoms has grown on me. the way they took forever to kill toad, first by scorpion stabbing him in the brain, then snake striking him in the brain, then the iron maiden, then the hot brand, then the water boarding suffocation was disturbing yet amazing. If there’s one thing the Shaw brothers are good it, its gruesome death scenes for its heroes.

Last martial arts movie I watched was 14 blades. Its about a chinese assassin. Pretty good, a little too anime style fighting for my tastes, but still enjoyable. Stars Wei Zhao, who dresses up as a boy in this one, kinda like she did in Red Cliff.

Fuck you.

I liked the 2007 remake of ROCH. I liked the 2008 remake of LOCH, and I am currently watching and liking the 2009 remake of HSDS.

Jin Yong is a beast at writing. Fuck J.R.R Tolkien and that Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Condor Heroes trilogy shits all over that.

P.S I went back and watch the 1982 version of State of Divinity/Smiling Wanderer Pander. C’mon son you can’t tell me those 80’s version were better. Not only are they not accurate to the books, but they had some shitty ass CGI crap (well the ones now are bad too, but that’s another story). That is why Jin Yong banned HK from making anymore of his novels, and the last few years they have redone the series from Mainland China. They redid pretty much everything. LOCH, ROCH, HSDS, Royal Tramp, Sword Stained with Royal Blood (Crimson Sabre), and Book of Swords.

Now they just need to do a better remake of DGSD not that crap that came out in 2003.

any good NEW martial arts movies? seen all Tony Jaa’s and JeeJa’s stuff.

i have like everything jet li now. evil cults pretty cool. mysticism mixed with martial arts is my kinda shit. throw those one arm hadoukens jet li :D. fighting is straight too. watched hard boiled the other day. the dub is so horrifying. haha

fishjie/ckrazy we should do MA movie night haha

Can’t go wrong with anything Donnie Yen. I actually just watched Legend of the fist and it was pretty good.

goemon was pretty cool. movie has ninjas and interesting graphics, and came out in 09. also reign of assassins (with donnie yen i believe), but havent gotten through 14 blades yet.

You have to really dig to find newer quality stuff today. If you aren’t over in HK, you’ll never know about most of the movies that come out. The best advice I could give any of you is to plug in names of your favorite stars and watch clips. In the meantime, you can check out Merantau if you managed to miss it. This new kid Iko Uwais brings us the energy and moves much like Jaa. Hopefully his popularity doesn’t fizzle out to fast.

Now, I was expecting Tony Jaa to be our savior. Especially since we’ve got an aging J.Chan and Jet Li on our hands. But Jaa seriously hasn’t been pulling his weight lately. I guess it was wrong of me to expect him to churn out movies J.Chan style, but whatever.

Hell yeah we can get on that tv series discussion. How many people remember Vanishing Son? That went hard when I was younger.

Was trying to use my megavideo account to up these movies but its bugging man so I am trying that Veoh. Currently uploading Heroes of the East, Magnificent Warriors, and Shaolin Intruders. Gonna be a whole minute though cause like I said the file sizes are all over a gig.

Of course if you got that Demoniod account just look up Atomicdog and I will help seed whatever I have of his. Oh and I told you 14 Blades was tight. That broad was on some anime shit though.

It came out a few years back, but you should check out Flash Point. There’s some Jujitsu in it. It also has the .

I’m gonna watch this finally. I remember I was about to but then you told me you like it and I was like “…ugh…”
