The NEW King of Fighters XI Compendium Thread

wow interesting is good to have this tier lists discussions again, everyone will have their own different opinions as for me I don’t agree in some and I do agree in some characters been ranked higher, but not adelheid… so for me:
SS-Gato, yes over kula, this guy is ridiculous, and I also have more problems with him than Kula.
S-kula, ex kyo
A-S -oswald,of the usual top 3 , you actually need skill to play him, a pain in the ass as leader
A+ Kim,Eiji, Geese?
A Duck,Kyo, Ryo, jyazu, Maxima,Terry,
B- K’,Clark,Ash, Malin, Silver
(B-C)Ralf probably and Kensou
C-Vanessa( she needs skill),Iori, Yuri, Jenet, Beni, duo lon, shen, adel(leader of course)
D- Tizoc, Elizabeth, Kasumi, King (c maybe, people have been mean to her), robert?
(D-E)-Ramon ( u need extra work with him to pressure and be effective ), shingo?
E-Whip, Athena, Momoko

And some I didn’t include there…

ret the batter began

Hey guys, I’m interested in playing this game and I’d like some info on Duo Lon. I’ve seen vids and stuff but it’d help me a lot to have it down on “paper”, I noticed the wiki is severely lacking most data. If anyone would be kind enough to list out things like LDM combos, combos INTO LDM and possibly the best way to input the LDM (IE: is there a shortcut or anything?)

Thanks in advance, it’s appreciated.

That Korean tier list looks strange BTW…there wasn’t any reasoning provided along with it was there?

And also, I heard about the new ratio ruleset made by Japan and Korea for this game which sounds ridiculous. Anyone else have any opinions on that?

Personally I like the Ratio system, keeps things a bit more interesting & makes me think about my team comp a bit more.

u mean the point system? i dont like it

I don’t see how it makes it more interesting. Not implying that XI is as broken as Marvel, but that’s equivalent to saying that removing the top tiers in MvC2 would make it more interesting. People might like to see some different sprites at first but they’d soon realize that the game would get boring real quick, matches less exciting, stagnant gameplay. Top tiers are top tier because they take advantage of the system the best, have more options, do things better. Now I’m not saying I like seeing KGO and the others all the time because I don’t. But at the same time, I think its stupid to restrict it - people who are out to win will always find ways to get over on the system. Might as well not bother. Don’t want to worry about top tier teams? Don’t play. That’s my thoughts.

if i follow the point system my team would be banned lol
so if i ever play it with somebody else beside my bro, i would never choose to play with the points system (like i do with my bro)… i want to play the game as it is, fuck that system

well my thoughts are, that I tiers aside of all the things you say that are tre btw, they are also because they are generally easier to use, and defenitely I don’t agree that we shouldn’t play the game if we don’t want to see top tiers, that would basically equal to say that there’s nothing left in the game other than top tiers, that the roster is no greater than 3 characters, and the remaining 5-7 high tiers, and there’s a difference between not worrying about them and people playing with them all the time, top tiers are also a way that no talent players rely to cover their lack of skill.

what

There is always gonna be tier whores. Personally my team would work out fine, because I always try to be different in my fighters. I will agree that watching the same characters over and over again gets old real fast, but there are people out there that will strive and train harder to use other characters just to prove the tiers wrong. The point system is useless IMO. They could always do what MvC2 did and do a lower tier tourney. Of course that would piss people off as well.

Honestly in the end, there is no way to make everyone happy. If you like the game play it. If you get annoyed by top tier characters only being used you might as well get over it. It’s gonna happen in EVERY fighting game out there. Also fuck tiers anyways. Just play who you enjoy.

OOOps my bad.

There! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll give you Kula and Gato…but Oswald? If he’s not leader, and the infinite is banned, he is pretty fucking hard to play on point.

How about we just play the damn game people?

Make this shit appear at tournaments. KOFXI needs more love in the U.S.

I tried to do it here in Houston but most people just give up on it when they get put in a long combo. People just don’t know how to make the most of openings and fuck ups.

With a lack of anything better to do, I’ll revise my tierlist once again:

S+ ~ Kula(L+1), EX Kyo,
S-tier ~ Gato(L+1), Oswald(L+1)

A+ ~ Eiji, Geese, Duck (2P)
A-tier ~Clark, Duck, Jyazu, K’(L+1), Kim, Kyo, Maxima, Big

B+ ~ Ryo, Gai, Jenet, Kensou
B-tier ~Ralf, Shen, Adelheid(L+1), Ash(L+1), Benimaru(L+1), Duo Lon(L+2), Hotaru, Iori, Mai, Malin(L+1), Silber, Terry, Yuri, Whip

C+ ~ Elizabeth (L+1), Hayate, King, Mary(L+1), Ramon, Tizoc, Tung, Vanessa(L+1)
----Tournament Survival Cut-off Line----
C-tier ~Robert, Shingo (L+1)

D+ ~ Athena (L+2)
D-tier ~ Kasumi, Momoko

***L+# means the character rises by # rank(s) when made Leader. So Athena made leader would go from D+ to B+. Gato made leader becomes SS.
Character ranks:

SS–Monstrously powerful and cheesy; have the potential to wipe whole teams out. Should be feared. Requires heavy planning and better skill in order for lower tier characters to overcome matchups. Barely beatable with B tier. C tier or lower characters have almost no chance.

S–Overpowered, but can still beaten with a lot of work. Solid characters who have a little added BS or cheesy feature. Barely beatable with C tier. D tier characters have almost no chance.

A–Very solid characters who lack a little of the extra cheese or BS that S-rank characters have, or characters who may have weaknesses but excel very well in other areas to make up for it. C tier or lower characters have to work hard against them, but still beatable

B–Nearly solid characters who have 1 or 2 glaring flaws that keep them from advancing higher. Middle road for XI. Most have some hidden potential that master players will be able to bring out so that they can hang with A-tier or higher characters. Beatable by anybody, and have the potential to beat anybody as well.

C-Have several glaring flaws, but a few good points. As high level play consists mostly of A-tier and above, C-tier is very rarely seen in tournaments.

D-Have virtually no redeeming qualities, or too many massive flaws to overcome a few good points. Almost never seen in high-level play, or casuals, either.

By request, we’re going to discuss an often overlooked aspect of KOF XI play–team building strategy.

Like CvS2 and older KOFs, the strategy of battery-user-anchor works well. Depending on your team, your leader can be your user OR your anchor. I don’t really recommend having your leader as your battery, as the quickest way to gain meter is to lose characters, and you often want your leader to have meter ahead of time to utilize your LDM.
Read the first post to see my opinions on good battery(starter) characters and good Leaders.

2 examples of top-tier teams are:

Kula, Oswald, Gato(L)
or
Kula, Gato, Oswald(L) alternatively [Kula, Gato(L), Oswald]

This team is good not only because it has all top-tiers, but because this team set-up gels very well together. These teams wouldn’t be nearly as effective if Gato was the starter character, for example.
Kula is such a great starter because she’s an awesome pixie character, a good battery, and she has highly damaging BnB combos without meter. Also, the fact that she has bad defense means that she’s better on the team going first, before the opponent has built meter, because she can die fairly quickly from super and quick-shift combos.

Besides KOG and KGO, some other good teams:

Kula, Eiji, Gato(L) or
Kula, Eiji, Oswald(L)–Taking advantage of Eiji, best as a user.

[Battery], Ryo, Oswald (L)–takes advantage of the awesome Ryo-Oswald QS stun combo

Duck/Maxima, Oswald (L)
or Duck/Maxima, Gato(L)–Duck and Maxima are both excellent starter chars b/c of meter building and the ease of their QS combos

Kula, Duo Lon(L), [Anchor]–Dark Geese’s team, takes advantage of Kula meter-building, and then quick-shifting to Duo Lon for his 100% combo

Kyo, Kim/K’, Gato(L)
or
Kyo, Gato, K’(L)–A good balanced team, great for a rushdown team for people who can’t get the hang of Oswald and don’t like Kula’s pixie style. Each character on the team works as a battery or a user.

[Damn good battery], Shen, Gato[L]
or
[Damn good battery], [Damn good battery], Shen [L]–Crazy all-out offense team. Build meter, then QS into Shen or Leader Gato for ridiculous damage.

Clark/Shen, Kensou, Eiji/Jyazu(L)–Good mid-tier Anti-Gato team

B. Jenet, Oswald, Gato(L) or Jenet, Eiji, Oswald(L)–Jenet is a decent alternate for Kula

Maxima, Kula(L), K’
or
Maxima, Kula, K’(L)–Really well balanced, but notable for being a default Story team that’s actually great in competitive play.

Ryo, Kensou, Vanessa(L)–Both Kensou and Ryo have really easy QS set-ups for Vanessa’s infinite. Not recommended unless you’ve mastered Vanessa and are prepared to have everybody hate you.

Anybody who has more suggestions for decent teams, please add in.

Sorry. I know the spotlight is on me for this, but this game is just one giant bowl of frustration to me. I feel utterly helpless in this game.

well, yeah of the top 3 he requieres more skill to use than the other 2,but being easy to use is not the only thing that makes a character a top tier, besides, without all of that he still has planty of resources and a lot of damage.

geez! What happened to Kasumi in this game that made her dead last in usefulness?
