the big reveal for me was at yennefers post op coming out party in the striga episode. she walks in and im ready to fap, and then she is introduced to the king and his sister, who are children at this point. the same king who fucked his sister who then got cursed and gave birth to the striga. i didn’t catch they were the same; my wife did. she has a phd though, so she got that attention to detail. not sure if there were other hints about the timelines not being in sync before this. up to that point i thought everything was happening in the present in a linear fashion. i thought it was a cool m night shamalan twist when it was revealed that it wasn’t.
Watched Klaus today,
this movie was legitimately incredible. Possibly the best Christmas movie I’ve seen.
Finished watching Good Times with my other half last night. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout and a great score to go along with it.
Can someone explain to me at what point they’re supposed to turn a corner and be profitable? It seems like the amount they spend to produce original content goes up every year.
That’s cool and all but that just means they were willing to toss away shows that could work if they gave it time
You caught me before the edit with the actual question, but that’s another thing I didn’t think of. If they’re pouring this much goddamn money into their originals, then why cancel anything with a following? I understand if a show’s run its course, but I hear about Netflix cancelling stuff people liked left and right while they’re doing dumb shit like throwing the Game of Thrones writers 100+ million dollar deals.
This feels even more like they are so scared of disney. Like how is any of this a smart move. Instead of being an alternative they think of being #1
Disney has the coin to do whatever they want in terms of making original shit. The article says Disney is only putting 1 billion into new content for 2020, but that’s because they already own a shit-ton of content. If and when they start jumping into this streaming game for real, shit might get crazy. So, I guess I can buy Netflix being scared. Hell, Disney isn’t their only competitor. But 17 BILLION? Whatever they’re thinking about better be worth it.
hahaha no way they’re ever getting out of that financial hole. It’s amazing when 1 film crosses that 1 billion mark at the box office…and that doesn’t happen that often unless it’s one of those countless major franchises Disney owns…and even that’s just “occasionally”. There’s no way in the world they’re bringing in enough to compensate for that kind of investment…? That’s ridiculous…that would take 17 Star Wars-box-office-level successes just to break even on that.
…sheeeitt…so how soon 'til they bump that price up to $20+ a month?
I also dont like how 4k and regular HD are on separate payment plans for a $3 dollar difference.
Im glad Disney is not doing that and hope HBO max doesnt.
What’s good to watch after the Witcher? Looking for a new show to start. We checked out The Outsider on HBO last night and it’s good, but there are only two episodes so far and weekly releases means I can’t binge that shit. Gotta wait till Sunday night.
What kinda shows you into?
If the Locke and Key Netflix adapation is as trippy and balls to the walls as the comic is I definitely recommend it. The comic is a complete mind fuck.
The Netflix adaptation drops 2/7
I like a pretty wide variety, anything from crime drama, supernatural shit, comedy, horror, sci fi, fantasy. Loved Stanger Things, Breaking Bad, West World, TWD, Dexter, Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Justified, and the list goes on. Just finished second season of Castlerock and that was cool, definitely like Stephen King stuff (The Outsider is SK, incidentally). I liked all the Marvel Netflix shows too for the most part.
Word, I’ll check it out.
Are you familiar with Lovecraftian/cosmic horror shit? Locke and Key is heavily that.
I know SK was inspired by Lovecraft, and I like his works. But I’m not too familiar with him, other than maybe Reanimator.
A few recommendations: Raising Deon, The Blacklist, Better Call Saul (Breaking Bad prequel), You, Ozark, Luther, Lucifer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Jessica Jones
Those all i can think of off hand until I get home
+1 for Luther and Sabrina.
The Dark is my fav Netflix series. If you don’t mind subtitles the show is the tits.
If they’re pouring this much goddamn money into their originals, then why cancel anything with a following? I understand if a show’s run its course, but I hear about Netflix cancelling stuff people liked left and right
It’s about how contracts are structured with show creators. Outside of the creators who got on with Netflix early in the platforms plan to roll out original content, most creators don’t get big money unless their series is renewed past 3 seasons. After that the prorates are reported jumps tremendously. So to counteract that Netflix has been very selective in renewing series past a 2 or 3 seasons if their first season numbers aren’t basically guaranteeing a hit further down the line.
