The music is (barely) passable (Music Discussion Thread)

DEM FEELZ

I kinda like it, too, though I wish the tempo would speed up a bit. I like the melody and the vocals, but not a fan of so much electronic sound.

I am all for it, but realistically wonā€™t happen, so my second choice would be like they did in SF4: tracks covering many genres, ethnic melodies with modern touches and whatnot; orchestral arrangements with the sense of dramatism, etc.

But yeah, bring on Juriā€™s theme metalized.

problem with new tracks is there is TOO much going on and you canā€™t hear the clear tune. I canā€™t tell the differences between random sf4 track #1,2,3 and so on.

things need to SIMPLE and catchy. this here is a good example.

Needs more Jazz Fusion.

Isnā€™t that what theyā€™ve done with both of the pieces weā€™ve heard? The tracks are much more ā€œlegibleā€ audibly than anything Iā€™ve heard in IV.

it has nothing to do with my personal taste.
it has to do with not inserting music that ends up pleasing a few people while displeasing others.
1)not everyone in the world is American
2)not everyone likes American music.

if you start asking for the hip hop genreā€¦someone else will ask for the heavy metal genre,ā€¦while another will ask for country musicā€¦while another asks for jazzā€¦while another asks for salsa musicā€¦another j-popā€¦another for mariachiā€¦and another Swiss yodeling.
Thatā€™s why MvC2ā€™s and SF3ā€™s music was a bad idea. It was too niche to insert a specific genre of music in the game. You run the risk of pleasing some while displeasing others.
just catchy melodies and tunes synthesized with some minor orchestral support and the majority of players gets pleasedā€¦
Some of youā€¦selfishlyā€¦with your grand brillianceā€¦just want to please yourselves and your own personal tastes.
<sarcasm>Thanks for thinking of everyone else instead of just yourself when electing for SFVā€™s music:-/<sarcasm>

but if you guys wanna know my personal taste in musicā€¦iā€™ll tell you.

I only like 1 single song.
Which I incessantly play over and over on constant loop when I go online and play a fighting game. I turn down the gameā€™s BGM and play the Hokuto No Ken theme song in its place.
Cuz unlike the Guile theme songā€¦the Hokuto No Ken theme song goes with everything.
Donā€™t believe me?
Here,ā€¦iā€™ll prove it.
enjoy!

See?
Told you the Hokuto No Ken theme song makes everything better.

Qā€™s 70 funk music with the Mu-Tron effects fits his spy costume perfectly. One of the best themes for a SF character.

SFA3 probably has the best soundtrack of any fighter Iā€™ve ever played. All the songs are so iconic and memorable. Whenever I hear Karinā€™s theme, I think of all those days I spent in the summer BAKING my Playstation 1 with the SFA3 disc. Everyday during the summer, it was SFA3 and Tekken 2. Great memories.

Yeah canā€™t say I enjoyed too many tracks in SFIVā€¦ Juri and Codyā€™s themes are good, and obviously any returning remixed tracks from older games are okay. Other than that, nothing memorableā€¦ I hope V has a better soundtrack.

I canā€™t stand Guileā€™s theme, it also doesnā€™t go with everything. >.> I respect the character and his legendary-ness though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really?! I would ask what version of his theme did you listen to, because some compositions arenā€™t as good as others. To me, the way his song sounded in SF2:WW thru SF2:Turbo was the best version. The redone songs in Super SF2 and ST arenā€™t as good. The songs done in SF2:WW, especially Guileā€™s as an example just had some punch to it ā€“ from the snare drum, and bass. But if all youā€™ve heard were the composition from Super Turbo, and especially the way they sounded in SF4, then yeah, I can understand not liking them. But if you donā€™t like Guileā€™s at all in any of them, then wowā€¦that is a surprise.

SFA3 music was SHIT. yes, I said it. it was SHIT. Not THE SHIT, but SHIT. Aside from a few memorable tracks, all the music sounded the same to me. How can you say Charlies A3 music for example is better than A1/A2?

Personally I hope they have different music which actually relates to the backround. I think KOF (especially the earlier games), did this quite well. Even SSF2 did this very well, where you felt there was synergy between the music and the background. For example, Vegas stage had alot of motion, people dancing enjoying themselves, the energy is high, so the stage has fast music. Deejays stage is similar BUT they people are chilled the F out, so the music is more relaxed.

Its just another one of those things where I hope they really think about it. So if it is a bar stage for example, then yes, have SF3 like jazz. If its some sort of rock concert place, then have rock. If its a playground have some sort of pop music i guess (?).

Just have some variation, sā€™all im saying and obviously have the option to give each character their own theme.

The only songs from SF4 I liked were Solar Eclipse and Drive In At Night, especially the latter. When you actually listen to the song by itself, it sounds so damn epic and the piano is just icing on the cake. Very Tekken-ish which is a good thing. But yeah, other than those two, nothing else stood out for me for the stage themes.

I respect your opinion and I see what you mean. But most of the themes in SFA3 were pretty memorable to me and it was just so different from what I had heard before. The versus series also had some memorable music. KoF as well. So many great themes in fighting games. Also, I agree about the stages. The stages in SSF2 just captured the essence of Street Fighter. Two people are fighting in seemingly common places with spectators watching. Whether itā€™s the wild jungle atmosphere of Brazil or the vibrant Las Vegas strip, the stages added to the nature of the fights.

This thread still sucks.

Talking about musicā€¦

Iā€™d like it if theyā€™d put in soundtracks of past games as well and make it fully customizable, meaning I can say which track plays in which stage or against which character.
Thatā€™d be so cool.

Tekken Tag 2 had a feature like that called Tekken Tunes with fully customizable bgm.

That feature needs to be incorporated in all future fighting games IMO

Blow Combofiend and Dawgtanianā€™s twitter up guys.

I have to agree on SFA3ā€™s music being shit, factually. You can enjoy it, yes, but that doesnā€™t make it good. Musically speaking, itā€™s very repetitive, pentatonic and inane. To me, the best examples of good, catchy fighting game music are:
SFII, SFA2, original KI, a few tracks from EX2, darkstalkers 2 and 3rd strike. What they all have in common is that they all have highly melodic soundtracks with a set mood and ambience.

To me, the SFA3 soundtrack was a horrid abuse of fast paced hi-hat and snare bullshit with a few sound effects to cover up for the absolute lack of compositional knowledge. Oh, and bad MIDI crash cymbals placed arbitrarily.
