dawgtanian left capcom, so combofiend and haunts it is.
(sigh) You know, as much as I love Takayuki and Yuki Iwai’s work, I gotta agree. Though I do enjoy “some” of SFA3’s music, much of it lacks the great melodies I’m used to them producing. After what they did with Marvel Superheroes, and Darkstalkers, I admit that SFA3 was a lil’ disappointing. Some SFA3’s tracks are great, like the character select theme, Ryu, Blanka, and I even liked Charlie’s. I just think the Iwai’s were trying new methods and instruments for these tracks and a lot of ‘em ended up bleeding together and sounded too similar. Not to mention you’re right, they went a lil’ too snare drum, and hi-hat crazy on some tracks. Again, it’s surprising given they worked on all the Darkstalkers songs, which is still my favorite from them (especially Darkstalkers 1).
Anyhoo, I hope we get a sample of the SFV music, or at least who the composer is. From what he did in SF4, SFxT, and the immensely disappointing songs he did for UMvC3, I just hope they don’t use Hideyuki Fukusawa anymore… Won’t forgive him for how he butchered Hsien-Ko’s theme. sniff/sob
Everybody’s a critic…
Alpha 3 had like three good themes in it.
I really like the Alpha 3 soundtrack. I guess I might be biased, though. A3 is the reason why I even play fighting games. Bought it from a local store after reading the PSM magazine with the SFA3 cover. That and Ridge Racer Type: 4 were my obsessions through jr. high.
I look at people who liked 3S soundtrack with disbelief. Liking it is another thing, but saying that it goes with a fighting game is just tastelessness.
I don’t understand how people can say SFIV has no good songs. Remixes like Cammy, Sakura, Cody, Rolento and Zangief are great, as are new themes like Gouken, Poison, El Fuerte, and stage themes like Drive-In at Night, Overpass, Volcanic Rim, and Snowy Rail Yard.

Yeah, SFIV has some good tracks. I definitely wouldn’t go so far as to say there are no good ones in there. I think my issue comes more from what the composer did to the character themes. Personally, I prefer the stage songs more than what he did to the character themes, but I did enjoy some of them, like Cammy, Bison, Zangief, and especially Rolento and Hugo. I can tolerate the others, but others are just not that good. I much prefer the original stage songs like Drive-In at Night, Overpass, Inland Jungle, and especially Blast Furnace.
Ibuki, Evil Ryu, Poison and Elena theme’s are the only one’s i could actually add to my Fighting game music Youtube play list, the rest were pretty bad. lol’
I can imagine my Dad walking past my room while listening to Gen’s theme, and saying “turn that Chinese shit off” (jokingly of course) Haha’
SF3’s music always sounded like elevator music to me. Too jazzy.
SF4 series only had good music when they are remixes of old themes which are also played out by now. The original stage themes are forgettable, generic music. The presentation is weak as well. Like I have mentioned in my older post, SFA3 had a modern feel to it compared to previous entries, CvS2 had a tournament style feel with some nice tracks, SF3 3rd strike had an edgy feel to it. SF4 had nothing like the old games when it comes to memorable original music and presentation.
Hopefully we can put the glow sticks and pacifiers away for Bison’s SFV theme.

You’d think that a user that’s been here for 8 years would know better than to be an entitled teenager like this. I think the 3S fits the fighting theme very, very well. I must be tasteless, I guess.
Anyways, I always thought, since the first time I heard this OST, that this would be an amazing style for a fighting game sountrack:

as opposed to other SF iterations, music tempo is fast but game is too slow!
It’s remarkable that most of the love people give to SF4’s music is from the tracks they remixed from previous OSTs. I’m sure a lot of people worked hard on the SF4 soundtrack, but it was joyless compared to stuff like SF3 and CvS.
This has got to transcend music preference, too because I listen almost exclusively to country music and metal and despite that I still think the jazzy, hip-hop, drum-and-bass stuff is the perfect fit for Street Fighter.
CvS2, Skull Girls, MvC2, 3rd Strike, and Persona 4 Arena are the best CS screen themes ever. O_O
Vanilla had a great CS theme imo, then they ruined it with Super.

We must be opposites, i thought it was weak and corny, super seemed like a big step up for me, Ultra as well compared to vanilla.
Personally I can barely even remember the Super or Ultra CS themes without looking them up :S
