The music is (barely) passable (Music Discussion Thread)

The amount of e-peen that was being thrown around in this thread is fucking hilarious. God bless the internet.

I disliked the music that was played alongside the stage demo between Mike and Peter. It had a sense of generic-ness in my opinion? I don’t know…I hope it isn’t the final track which one would assume it isn’t at all considering it’s current development stages. What’s everybodies thoughts on the Chinatown stage music?

I think the tune is pretty catchy and serves as good ambience for the fighting, however I was really expecting something brand new. The third strike OST has a predominantly positive acclaim, universally, and it was completely different from the highly melodic SFII and alpha series music. IV had way too much synthesized/electronic mumbo jumbo that sounded like crap. Some of it’s music was quite good and catchy, but others really left me scratching my head(prime example; Balrog’s theme. Its absolute garbage)

If Capcom manages to nail something akin to the 3rd strike ost in how stylized it is, I’ll be more than happy.

Personally I didn’t like the music in SF4 the the point I just turned it off altogether as I found it kinda distracting tbh, especially if you have some character themes agai nand again if you meet them often online, though it did have some nice themes like the likes of Vega, Sagat, Adon, Fei Long and Cammy. Don’t get me started on the butchered remixes of character themes from Third Strike though, ugh

I enjoyed a lot of the character themes in SF4 (Boxer, Juri, Cody, Guile, the shoto’s, all had great music). Some of the stage tunes were good as well.

The theme playing in the background during the Ryu vs Chun Li fight had me pretty hype, and I wish I could find a copy of that song :frowning:

My only problem with the stage music played so far is that it tended to get drowned out in the footage.

I don’t know how to directly show the song in the response, but my favorite theme is the SF Alpha Ryu vs Sagat theme. I hope they add some intense music in this game. Sagat’s SF4 theme is way too subdued.

We need Q’s theme back, along with Q, in his own stage. This theme is catchy as f*** and we barely ever got to hear it.

If they do bring it back, I hope they just re-arrange it. I Don’t like the way Capcom remixes it’s originals.

I couldn’t hear the track from the demo at CapCup all that well, but what I did hear, wasn’t a fan of it. It had some vocals harmonizing, but it just didn’t sound great. I really hope and PRAY they get some new composer to do the SF5 soundtrack. Many character themes in SF4 were horrible, and there are only maybe 6 stage songs I thought were great: Drive-In at Night, Blast Furnace, Solar Eclipse, Construction Site, Inland Jungle, and Overpass Stage. All the others, kinda fell in the “meh” category.

I know people love the 3S soundtrack, but I was never a fan. I personally thought New Generation, and 2nd Impact had better songs. I’d love for them to get Hideki Okugawa to do it again but not like 3S. Even better, it’d be good if they could get Takayuki Iwai, and his wife Yuki Iwai back to work on songs, or license out their company Wavelink Zeal. Those 2 were my favorite Capcom composers from Marvel Superheroes to Darkstalkers and Alpha 3.

I digress…but I’m just saying, it’s time to get some great SF music back, similar to SF2, SF3NG, SF32I, and SFA3.

Fixed it for you…lol

OMG, i loved Ryu’s remixed background stage music in SFA3…talk about bringing back memories, hope this makes it back to SFV

Iwai or Okugawa could make this soundtrack awesome again.

Okugawa does chill and catchy tunes but Iwai makes energetic and exciting tunes. Can’t go wrong with either of them.

Does anyone know if there is direct feed footage of gameplay without the commentary? I’m having trouble hearing music during the live match.

I don’t think there is direct feed footage of it. We may have to wait until they do character reveals so we can hear their themes, like they’ve done recently.

Am I the only one who thought the CapCup demo music sounded kinda similar to this?

Just less guitar.

They should take notes from Tekken and KI.

When it comes to KI, a 1000 times yes! If by some miracle they could get Mick Gordon, Robin Beanland, or Graeme Norgate (yeah, fat chance on either) to do the soundtrack to SF5, that would be HUGE!!! Killer Instinct to me still has the absolute best fighting game soundtrack ever. From Combo’s KI2 theme, Cinder’s KI1 theme, and especially the production put into Spinal’s KI(2013) theme, these 3 guys would really top the bar reimaging the SF cast themes.

Alas, it won’t happen. But I think it’s about time SF gets some great theme and stage music again, similar to what Yoko Shimamura (SF2), Takayuki and Yuki Iwai (Darkstalkers, MSH, and SFA3), and Hideki Okugawa (All SF3s) did for it in the 90s.

SFV?
Did they release the soundtrack for SFV already?
or did you mean SFIV instead?

on another note, no pun intended, wanna watch Vega play his own theme?
here, watch this, & enjoy:

O.
No!
-_-
stahp it.
Stop ruining Street Fighter with your foolishness!

No rock. No hip hop. No jazz or any niche genre music.
just good catchy tunes.

This is why the SF2 soundtrack was so memorable. it just had good catchy melodies that got stuck in your head. SF4’s overly orchestrated take on the stage/character tunes suck because it loses too much of its edge due to the needless overochestration of the pieces. Though I did like really Elena’s stage theme in Ultra. Probably because it was the least “SF4’ized orchestrated” one. That was the best song in 3s hands down. If that song i’m thinking of was her stage.

I think SFV’s music should have minor orchestration but only to support the harder edged synthesized music. As long as the synthesized melodies are catchy and not raking my eardrums. In the end, it all really depends on the composer.

and SF3’s music was horrible. And to be honest I never really was fond of GuiltyGear’s heavy metal music but at least it had a few catchy tunes. But I still prefer a synthesized sound mingled with some orchestration since it can communicate and be enjoyed by most people. personally I prefer orchestral music only without synthesized music but in SF4 it was badly composed horrible orchestration of the classic SF tunes we all knew and loved.

And yeah, that street stage song in the SFV exhibition match did suck ass.

SFA2 has the best fighting game intro and music ever, wouldn’t mind seeing an updated music remix in SF5 in some way form or fashion.

Damn don’t post that awesome 90s Street fighter music, it is a painful reminder that what was once Mozart is now barely a Salieri.

Could you please head back to the taste cancer quarantine zone in /v/, no one wants to hear your shitty opinions regarding everything.
