Honestly, this doesn’t have the timeless and anthemic quality one would expect from a character theme. For you to understand what I mean, imagine this song in CPS1 or 2. It will completely lost in translation I think, because it lacks a solid melody. This is why SF2’s music is so perfect (among a lot of other themes from 90s SF games). Their melodies are ageless.
I think the thing which hurts the soundtrack the most is the generally cheap sounding virtual instruments.
We could tolerate those just fine when they didn’t sound anything close to the actual instrument (older games).
It’s like the uncanny valley of sound. Not close enough that it sounds real, not far enough away that it’s obviously bleeps and bloops.
I found myself kind of enjoying the main menu theme. Djent fighter 5! A lot of the other music seems relatively forgettable, though I’ll echo enjoying the fact they went with some type of DnB for Rashid. My dream of a full DnB fighting game is still a long way off tho…
That’s impossible. Street Fighter 2 is undisputed, and indisputable. It is the ‘Thriller’ of the Street Fighter OSTs. Maybe you like SFV’s more, maybe it is your favorite even, but let’s not blur the lines between greatness and personal taste. My favorite OST is Alpha 3 followed by 3s, but I know they aren’t greater than SF2’s. Man, have you heard Guile’s theme?
my problem with A3’s music is that a lot of them sound generic (NOT ALL) like they sound similar to each other except Karins or akumas theme or something
