the intro is like bossa nova and then it just goes like weird fusion with a very typically chinesey kinda sound for that ‘guitar’ and its melody.
has a very like detective movie in chinatown feel. reminds me of yun/yang in 3S.
laura’s is kind of cool. i like the silly horns. the other two are very meh.
You guys aren’t the only ones. All the music in the game is fantastic. The stage music is significantly better than SF4’s and the character themes are leaps and bounds livelier than SF4’s as well. Ryu’s theme in 4 was laden with an EDM sound but Fukasawa knew good and well that we weren’t gonna go for the untz untz untz. His theme in SF5 has a very Japanese and orchestral feel to it - it’s the theme Ryu should’ve had a long time ago. I could analyze all the themes, but in short, we’re getting some of the best quality music we’ve heard from an SF game since Alpha 1 remix and 3S remixed music (Dreamcast remix not OE).
[EDIT from above] I just got a better listen to Laura and FANG’s tracks, and they aren’t bad. So I retract what I said above…however…
Just got a listen to the India and Russia stages, and those are great. It’s interesting, but Fukusawa seems to struggle with remixing the older SF character themes. There were a couple that were good in SF4 and a couple that are decent in SFV, but once again, his original work for stage themes in SF4 and SFV, and some character originals he’s done, are way better. Maybe the problem is he’s trying too hard to modernize songs from SF2-SFA3-SF3 instead of sticking closer to the song’s core sound which seems to get the best results. Don’t get me wrong, some character themes he remixed are very good. I just think the original character themes he’s done since SF4 and SFV, as well as the stage themes are far superior.
By my view, with how he butchered R.Mika’s, I’m not looking forward to what he’ll do with Guile, Balrog, or Alex…
To an extent I agree that he had struggled with character themes, but for SF4 specifically. However, I still maintain that the SF5 music is pretty amazing. Yes Fukasawa’s definitely modernized Cammy’s and Bison’s themes, but I don’t particularly think they’re bad compositions (this coming from a guy who likes wub wub). Bison’s theme could’ve used more of the original melody and background from the SF2/4 version, but overall the feel of the theme still sounds “Bisonesque”. And yes, his original compositions are solid, no doubt… Now I think you probably wanna hear a more cohesive blend of music between stage themes, and new/old character songs, is that right?
for Zangief’s theme looks like the composer was trying to capture a Rocky like feel, but it’s not quite there. doesn’t have the oomph that the music from Rocky movies have.
