I like sf3’s type of dnb, love imitating that. But sf5’s dnb eh…Like the vocals though the vocals are nice as fuck on rashid theme. lil arab thing goin on halfway through was dope too.
I agree with you, but I think the best answer would be just Street Fighter Ex series. Mainly because EX 2 and EX 3 felt for the most part as revisions of EX+@ (i.e the best one), and added music to the OST. There are tracks that are only on EX 2 and EX 3’s OST that are indispensable I think. EX+@ takes the credit for introducing most of the great EX songs, it also has Akuma’s theme which was epic.
S Tier
Street Fighter 2 (inclusive of all CPS versions of the tracks)
A+ Tier
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter 3: 3s
Street Fighter EX series
A Tier
Street Fighter Alpha 2
B Tier
Street Fighter 5 (Original music only)
C Tier
Street Fighter 4 (Original music only)
Street Fighter 5’s remixes of Street Fighter 2’s themes
Shit Tier
Street Fighter 4’s remixes of Street Fighter 2 themes
the point about Rocky music is that it’s inspirational music. Going the distance is theme that is about showing the heart and determination of the underdog. theme fit well within in the context of both Rocky and Creed. now on to Zangief’s SF5 theme i’s obviously the composer was going for a inspirational type theme wanted to portray a inspirational side of Zangief.
so maybe inspirational music doesn’t fit Zangief just like how hardcore metal can’t fit certain things depend on the context. In Rocky a hardcore metal wouldn’t have fit the context the movie was going for .
note I happen to like the music of Rocky movies. I like orchestra , rock, heavy metal, rap and Classical music. if Yoko Shimomura came back to composer music for Capcom let’s say a fight game I think she would used a classical approach. when Yoko Shimomura did her music she drew inspiration from things in her life that move her emotionally. in a interview Yoko Shimomura state that she intend the music of Street fighter II to be stage music but the music just became attached to the characters overtime.
And thinking about it, I think 3rd Strike Online Edition has a great soundtrack, it’s just that people hated them because they were comparing them to the originals. It’s actually a new style entirely and sounds pretty good. I think these were done by the same guy who did Payday 2’s music, and I love that soundtrack, although it is quite different in style from what you’d expect in Street Fighter.

I think OE was a very “gutsy” soundtrack because it had elements of things we’d not really heard in SF (I.e. dubstep on Ryu’s theme). The tracks are fairly solid and seem for the most part, cohesive. I really liked the intro song with Adam Tensta. That song was probably one of the more visceral SF songs I’ve heard. If anyone’s played Bionic Commando Rearmed Simon Viklund was on that soundtrack too - the music in that game sounds pretty similar to what he did for OE.
I kiiiiiiinda wanna agree with this. The only thing I would change, is putting the Street Fighter 4 (Original music only) entry up to at least B Tier, or maybe add to a B+ Tier. But you definitely get what I was saying earlier, in that Fukusawa’s best work really is his original content, not his remixes.
Also, you forgot to put in Street Fighter 3: NG and Street Fighter 3: 2I in the list. I’d say 2I would go in A Tier, and NG would go in B or B+.
A - Sf2 + SfAlpha 1&2 (don’t be hypocrite, it’s the same formula)
B- Sf4 (kinda ALSO the same formula of SF2, but with some crappy execution)
C- Sf3 “Jazzy Hop” + Punches = not a good union for me, mainly for SF. Plus, it kinda has the same crappy (alpha3) tendency of different songs with similar instrumentation.
D - SfAlpha3 = Creative melodies, maybe, but with the fucking same ‘instruments’ in the ENTIRE soundtrack, creating the most REPETITIVE ost in the entire franchise. Yes, it IS overrated.
Yeah 2i and NG would go with Alpha 2 for me as well.
I guess I could bump SF4 into B tier. Indestructible is still stuck in my head almost a decade later, and that’s genius.
I agree with you @PSYCH0J0SH the 3SOE OST is up there with the original 3s. It was ballsy and still had the spirit of 3s running through its veins. I loved it!
Considering how they did some themes in this game I see more of a mix thing coming.
I really liked 2nd impact music compared to most of the series, and when Urien comes around I’m hoping to hear more of a remix of that theme with a little Crazy Chili Dog in the mix.
Shame Birdie’s theme had the right idea with the combination of his original and A3 theme, but still not as well done as I would have hoped.
