The character themes are so awesome ! I love Ken’s and Karin. Too bad there’s not Mika’s.
Many of these sound like amateur youtube remixes of the character themes, thus continuing to live up to being bland and generic. I will say that I expected to hate them a lot more than I did.
The Good
Vega
Chun-LI
Ken
Nash
Ryu
Necalli
The Bad
Bison (Although to be honest, this sounds much better than when I first heard it. Still doesn’t hold a candle to the original and Alpha 3 themes)
Cammy (How could you?!)
Karin (You have to be kidding. Her Alpha3 theme is like one of the best tracks in that game, and that game had EPIC music!)
Birdie (Utterly ruined)
Aside from Cammy (my heart is in pieces) and Chun, these are all pretty nice. Vega, Ken and Karin (yeah, yeah her Alpha 3 theme was great) are my favourites. Ryu gets honourable mention.
Hard to get hype for remixes. Only interested in hearing the new chars/themes.
Karin’s new theme fits her a shit ton more than her Alpha 3 theme I love it.
Necalli’s? Sick, I like the melody in the first part especially.
Was worried about the music initially but I think overall they’ll have some good stuff, I’m liking the variety they have this time around. Can’t wait to hear a high quality version of the Brazil Stage…
Yes! I couldn’t quite put into words how I feel about Necalli’s theme, but first part definitely stands out.
It’s fairly hard to mess up a remix of a good song (they succeeded with Cammy anyway), but I’m super ready for Rashid and Laura’s themes now that I’ve heard Necalli’s.
Karin’s theme is… good. What?
What the fuck is this? A good song in Street Fighter 5? Something’s up here. Did they get someone else to compose her theme? There’s no way that’s the same guy who’s doing the stages.
Also how are we so sure it’s Karin’s theme? It doesn’t sound anything like Simple Rating and seems like it’d be more suited to Laura.
Too bad all the rest of the remixes are forgettable.
RIP Birdie’s theme.
Hmm, Karin’s theme doesn’t sound like it’s her A3 theme’s remix? Also, I’m digging these themes. I don’t know why they’re going the trouble of making both (sucky) stage and (awesome) character themes instead of just giving us the character themes?
Edit: Are those elephant cries in Nash’s theme? Great music except for those.
Listened to all the dumped themes from the beta
Vega - 10/10, fantastic melody as usual
Karin - 10/10, such a great jazzy music in a rarity in games, especially in fighting games. A hundred times better than the shitty Alpha 3 theme
Ryu - 10/10, sounds very epic as if you’re watching a final battle in a movie
Ken - 10/10, his themes are always sick (expect for SF4), this time it’s even better. Still kinda like the HD Remix version better, but this one is awesome as well
Necalli - 8/10, this stuff is definitely final boss material, it just can’t be anything else
Birdie - 7/10, it’s a melody that fits Birdie IMO
Charlie - 6/10 - it’s…okay, but the remix is a little weird. I’d prefer it to be slightly heavier, almost metal-like, to emphasize what Charlie is now. The grim tune + the old guitar riffs do the job, but it needs some more OOMPH to it
Bison - 5/10, his theme always fucking sucked. This time it’s at least better than the SF4 version, but still it’s pretty underwhelming. Though it seems to be slightly remixed compared to the preview we heard months ago
Chun-Li - 4/10, never liked her theme anyway
Cammy - 0/10, absolute fucking garbage, even SF4 version was better than this crap
Now to wait for Rashid, Mika, Laura, Gief, New Char #4 and Last Returning Char #8
You can hear Simple Rating at the end of the theme actually.
I want to enjoy Birdie’s theme since they put his A3 theme in it, but it came out so poorly it’s a chore.
Also why does Cammy’s theme remind me of something from Fate/Stay?
Welp, just heard the songs myself… so I guess it’s my turn to play critic then.
Amazing
Karin: So far my fave song in V atm (until i hear Rashid’s and Mika’s). I know most are saying that it sounds nothing like her A3 theme… but to me that was a good thing since I sorta felt A3’s themes weren’t as memorable save a chosen few (like Ryu’s or Rose’s). Love it’s elegant yet jazzy and energetic pace and they did snip in a bit of “Simple Rating” towards the end of the loop like how Hugo’s 2nd Impact theme was snuck in the end of his “The Circuit” USF4 theme remix. I feel they did this change to acknowledge the older, more mature Karin that’s no longer tied to her schoolgirl self. Makes me all the more excited to play as my #1 request girl.
Necalli: I honesty at the first few intro moments was expecting something more wild to fit his nature instead of the epic riff they went with him, but when the “verse” part cut in, that ‘wild’ part came in which I expected. This one surely defines a devil-man like Necalli.
Nash: It’s dark and heavy, and nearly fully captures the dark tone that fell upon this character, especially the epic intro before his remix fully starts in gear. Feels like a proper upgrade from the Alpha 2 days.
Vega (Claw): I may not like the fact that Claw’s back in V, but I WILL admit his theme is superb, surely edging out his 4 theme. It’s to the book but the use of Spanish guitars and keeping it ethnic yet speedy makes it sound great.
Chun-Li: Adore the light vibe I got from her theme in this game, which reminds me a bit of how Chai Xianghua’s theme in Soulcalibur III was treated. Miles better than her MvC3 theme, though time will tell if it’ll outclass her 4 theme. Not quite in the tier of her MvC1 or TvC themes, but it’s close to it on first listens.
Great
Ryu: It’s to be expected from Mr. Street Fighter, an epic sounding remix to his SF2 theme, akin to his main Smash Bros version of the song. Honestly, I wish they’d go off the rails and remix his 'Good Fighter" theme from SF3 2nd Impact since that was my favorite Ryu theme of all time, but this’ll do. Like it better than his SF4 theme (most likely because I’ve heard it to death now.)
Ken: The intro lies to me… Honestly, the first 18 seconds of this theme are some of the best tunes I’ve heard in a while and actually get me pumped up & excited to face the new and improved Ken Masters… and then once the main theme hits I’m quickly reminded that I AM indeed fighting (another) Ken and the SF4 nightmares come rushing back… lol. Jokes aside, that’s sorta how this theme is to me, amazing intro, but the same typical sounding SF2 remix once the intro’s done, but it picks itself back up towards the end of the loop with the music break-down and the sweet guitar solo (like Amazing/Meh…/Amazing over the course of the song.)
Alright/Meh
Bison (Dictator): Honestly it sounds like the theme he WOULD’VE had if he wasn’t cut from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 because it sounds just like a track from that game with all it’s electronic sound instruments. It’s an alright remix, but I’ve heard much better for Dictator.
Birdie: Well… it’s actually near-exactly as what I was predicting Birdie’s V theme would sound like. A combination of his Alpha 2 & 3 themes with just an instrument usage upgrade for the most part. It doesn’t do much else… but I’m probably one of the few fans that sorta like it. Just get’s the job done without going off the deep end… (sniffcammy…)
Bad/Wut…?
Cammy: It’s not just a shame but a catastrophe that such an elegant sounding song that themed Delta Red Cammy all these years got butchered by the singular choice to use freaking dubstep during it’s entirety, while SF4’s incarnation was one of my fave tracks in the 4 series. When the VERY first thing I hear when fighting Cammy of all people is all this ‘wubbing’ I’m just instantly thrown off from appreciate her remixed theme buried underneath all that noise for the full length. If it weren’t for that, it would’ve been up in the “Great” tier at least…
Looking forward to hearing Rashid’s especially, as well as the other missing cast.
Yeah what the hell, sure the announcer was lame and the character select rape was kinda ass but the stage music was awesome.
Wow, my opinion on the music is changing rapidly. These character themes sounds like utter fucking shit except for Vega’s IMO. I’ve had enough of these 2004 ps2 midi sounding electronic effects. Makes everything sound dinky and stupid.
I will say this – while I’m still no fan of Hideyuki Fukusawa (still haven’t forgiven him for butchering Hsien-Ko’s theme in UMvC3), the production quality of the SFV songs are definitely better than SF4’s.
SF4 had some good gems for stage songs (Drive-In at Night, Blast Furnace, Inland Jungle), and a couple good character themes (Hugo, Rufus, Juri), but SFV songs are coming along a lot better. HOWEVER, I am noticing I’m preferring certain round songs more than the whole song itself. For instance, I prefer the Round 2 version of Bustling Side Street, Round 1 of the Train Station stage, Round 1 of Forgotten Waterfall. Both versions of Kanzuki Estate are really good though.
As for the character themes, they’re pretty damn good as well. I’m underwhelmed by the songs for the SF2 cast, but even though I’m no fan of dubstep, I actually think Cammy’s is pretty good. It’s not overwhelmed with dubstep in it, but I don’t think it’s bad. I love how he was able to put both Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 versions of the songs in Nash (though subtle), Birdie, and Karin’s themes, similar to how he put both versions of Hugo’s themes in his SF4 version. Necalli and Karin’s really stand out to me though, and I think Birdie’s is pretty damn good.
At this rate, I think SFV songs are gonna be like how UMvC3’s soundtrack was – where character themes were better than the stage themes. I am scared to death he will butcher R.Mika’s theme, as that was always one of my favorites from Alpha 3.
So far, I think SFV’s songs are better than SF4… And even though the production quality is better, some of the songs are still too over produced.
I was a little disappointed that I didn’t hear more of a remix of Karin’s A3 theme, but this new one is the shit. I love the jazzy melody. So far the only theme I like along with Forgotten Waterfall and Nash’s theme.
All of them are bad, except Vega’s imo, his theme is better than the previous versions.
Karin’s theme is actually really good. I wish the whole OST sorta had that jazzy vibe to it.
Karin’s theme is going to go really well with her pre-fight intro.
Karin’s theme invalidates this entire thread IMO.
Sounds like something that would have been made during Capcom’s heyday at the turn of the millennium.
