The music is (barely) passable (Music Discussion Thread)

Karin’s theme is sex for my ears. Easily the best of the available themes.

This composer must really hate Cammy. Why did he do that to her theme? Jesus I couldn’t even finish listening to it all the way through.

I don’t like that fact that Birdie’s Alpha 3 theme creeps it’s way into it. Other than that I think It’s ok.

Ken’s theme is a lie. From the opening riff I expect a much more dynamic and booming sound than what I got. It’s too mellow for me. I’m highly disappointed with it.

Necalli’s theme is something I expect from a final boss. Great theme all around.

I never liked Chun’s SF2 theme and I still don’t. This remix doesn’t nothing for me.

I that Nash’s theme starts with his ending theme from Alpha 2. It goes hand an hand with the tragic character he is now. The theme proper sounds like something out of Mega Man though. I like it.

Hnng, Necalli yes. My favorite new character gets a sick ass theme. Karin’s is fucking great and reminds me of some good ol 90’s Capcom music.

Ken, Nash, and Ryu’s are pretty great.

The rest range from good to mediocre. None of them sound super awful to me.

Sounds melty as fuck.

Karin’s theme sounds like something straight outta SFEX+@'s soundtrack, which is actually damn good.

To be honest, Karin’s SFV theme reminds me of that ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ song from No More Heroes 2.

They definitely sound similar. All we need is someone scat singing over Karin’s theme to complete the resemblance.

YES. Why the hell couldn’t I remember this beauty?

We aren’t talking about SF3 as a whole, we’re talking about 3s. It’s probably the most overrated SF of all time for a myriad of reasons, but let’s stay on track(no pun intended).

All of the music sounded like stock music from other games and media. The first two games actually sounded like Capcom worked on the soundtracks, with each character having a particular song that was their own.

For example ,I hear Ibuki’s theme in Akuma’s in 3s(which leads me to believe the team got really fuckin’ lazy). You’d have to be deaf or completely oblivious not to hear it too.

Alex’s and Ken’s(which is a damn shame considering Ken had his own music just prior in 2I) is just a shittier version of the original theme that debuted in NG, but just longer. The quantity of something of a lower quality can never go over the higher quality version, no matter how much you extend the low quality version. IIRC, someone just talked about that in this very thread.

Visually, 3s looked washed out and drab compared to NG and 2I.

No it doesn’t.

One good track doesn’t vindicate a million shitty ones, unless you’re planning on replacing every song in the game with Karin’s theme?

While it’s not the best on from this set. I wouldn’t go this far.

The main issue with this is that the starting verse feels tacked on, the rest is actually a more faithful take on the original CPS 2. Actually, I’m pretty sure that they sampled bits of the latter.

I only like Vega and Bison’s themes the others are very meh. Sounds like this games soundtrack will be very middling which is a shame (at least its better than SF4’s). Capcom used to make godlike ost for SF, aka SF3, SFA3, what happen…

The problem I have with Bison’s theme is that it’s not him. Most everyone’s theme feels like it is their theme. They just ruined his SF2 theme. Where are those bells for example? Also considering that Bison is extra badass this game, they should’ve gone with Fatal Depths or Brave or Grave from Alpha 3. No theme even comes close of embodying his character like those. SF5 Bison theme as I said before, sounds like a machine moaning, and not even the violins could save it for me.

Everyone is raving about Karin’s theme but it pisses the fuck out of me that the best part of her A3 theme, it squeezed into a moment at 1:25. Wish it had more of that A3 goodness. But this is a personal gripe, the theme itself is good but not my cup of tea.

The art direction of SF3 as a whole and 3s specifically is what I was talking about. The people responsible for the sound, music, voice acting, and the people responsible for the artwork and animation - They did a flawless job and arguably are matched ONLY by Alpha 3 but I don’t think so. Even though I prefer A3 over 3s, I can see that SF3 is the pinnacle of Art and Street Fighter. To put it in a metaphor, SF3 is like some indy or underground band that cared only about their art, vision, and the integrity of their music - And a game like SF4 or SF5 is Britney Spears.

But you’re trying to lump in 2 other games that weren’t mentioned in the post I replied to. I’ve already acknowledged how good NG and 2I looked and sounded, so you can’t use those as ammo for your argument.

Alpha 3 is very polarizing in itself, so stop bringing that up. I like Alpha 3’s soundtrack, but I know a TON of people who hated it. A lot of them are on this very site.

3S was what I focused on because I felt it was the weakest of all three games in the audio and visual department. It’s no secret that 3S doesn’t look as crisp as the first two games on artwork or stages, but the music is ultimately subjective.

If you’re into calm, non-action oriented music, with some terrible club music thrown in, then I guess you would like 3S’s soundtrack(with obvious exceptions like Q, Urien, ect). But I feel like the first two games had a better balance of calm and action. And like I said before, they sounded like Capcom produced them in-house, whereas most of 3S sounded like leftover music from other shit. Ibuki and Akuma’s both sound like some infomercial about herbal tea and black soap.

I like Bisons Theme in this game because it feels like it has energy behind it unlike most theme’s in the game so far. Whether it fits him or not is another story.

Thank god they didn’t just remix her A3 theme and actually gave her new original music. Alpha 3’s OST sucked ass for the most part (with slight exceptions like Brave or Grave)

“Doesn’t vindicate a million tracks that I THINK ARE shitty ones”***

All the themes they found data mining suck. I am sick of them doing poor min sounding remixes of actual music. Use REAL instruments and not a cheap synth with $10 an hour musicians. It sounds like same hacks who did the sf4 soundtrack. This is a very mean posting Im writing, but honestly they should have listened to this thread if theyve been reading it and did GOOD music for the game like we wanted. It sounds like sf4 music/remixes of older songs. This game deserves better.

sfxt’s soundtrack was much better than sfiv, in my opinion!

Fixed that for you.

Most of the remixed tracks are fine, but that’s because the original compositions they’re based on are already strong enough. All this composer had to do was make non-shitty arrangements of them (which even a complete idiot would be able to do by taking the original compositions and just giving them modern synth instruments), so the fact that he actually failed to do this with some of these old themes is extraordinary. This guy goes above and beyond with his incompetence.

Seems we’ve gotta update the dictionary as subjective and objective have their meanings mixed up?
