SFV has some interesting stuff going on so far I think.
It’s very different with some really clean instruments and a lot of guitars it seems. I really like the music for the mountainous stage.
I think it’s a little early to judge. The benefit older games had was in being so limited sound wise. Things were always going to sound to some degree cohesive.
Now they can record whatever they want.
Main thing seems to be a lot of instruments and not just flat synth. To me at least it seems relatively cohesive already. Training stage however does not fit at all.
im listening to the UK stage them and I’m just overwhelmed by how pointless it is. it doesn’t sound bad or anything , but it just…conveys nothing, ya feel me? it doesn’t sound like it fits either of the UK characters nor does it suit the visual concept of ‘London street.’ to bring up 3s for the millionth time, on top of having bangin tracks, they all fit the stage and associated characters pretty nicely. ibuki and hugo spring to mind as nailing what SFV is still lacking. even SFIV was OK in this regard–even though I didn’t love too many tracks, tracks like beautiful bay were appropriate to the setting. i’m not saying they need national anthems blaring or something, but I’m really not seeing the idea behind the music at all so far.
The music on the England stage reminded me a bit of Queen, and with Birdie and the punk rockers in the background I think it’s playing to that part of UK culture. Just a guess.
Love the London stage theme even more than I already did. The Hollywood Western elements are such a nice touch. Odd for a London stage, but I’m actually glad they didn’t go with the most obvious things you’d think of for the stage music (as far as what we’ve heard so far goes).
Alright that clear my doubts. These tracks have a clearer direction and sound way more crisp than the SF4 style. London station is one sweet sexy groove. Too bad that only the round part 1 is in there.
Everybody is hating on these tracks in the general discussion thread and I just don’t get it.
I mean, yeah, the character themes are uninspired mehmixes, but the stage themes are where this games score is finding its identity. It sounds worldly, like it’s composed of elements borrowed from various cultures, but it does it in a more consistent, across-the-board way than “Chinese music for Chinese stage! Generic African drums and chanting for Africa! Bollywood number for India!”
[S]Although okay, an Indian stage that took place during an Indian movie style dance scene would be dope af**
I would just appreciate something with a bit more “soul”.
I actually thought Solar Eclipse sounds really nice. They don’t have to go the generic route, I think people are after something with more impact. The London stage for instance is super forgettable, the New Zealand stage just sounds lame. Like compare it to this
I like Revengeance’s cheesy rock OST but yeah can’t see it fitting. Maybe they’ll have a Tekken Tunes-esque feature where you can assign your own tracks to a stage though.
Old Capcom would’ve just found a fitting OST, usually techno inspired, that also bangs…
