The music is (barely) passable (Music Discussion Thread)

And returning to Namco’s musical efforts in Tekken series - I absolutely love the theme they composed for Jun Kazama in Tag 2, so they made the final boss fight a 2-phase battle. The one with the calm music, and the second with a terrifying beat. I wish Capcom did that for Street Fighter as well (remember - Bison had essentially one theme in SF2, second one was Akuma’s if you reach him, Gill had the same-as-everybody-else 3-round track, and Seth…did he have a theme at all?)

They wound up giving Seth the Secret Lab (round 2?) theme as his own theme. I think.

Also, while I’m not a fan of SFIV’s music, I thought Fukasawa stepped it up a bit in SFxT. Or maybe it’s the fact that that games score focused on original compositions, with few arrangements of existing ones.

And the few that did exist were awesome!

I do wish we had someone new for SFV, though

They tried that already. Remember “Honest Eyes”? Lyrically, the song was nothing special, but the pace and aggression were commendable. It at least got me excited for the game. I doubt we’ll see that again given SFxT’s status as a dead fighter.

rather the opening has lyrics or not there’s still going to be a opening theme count on it.

Oh, I don’t doubt we’ll have an opening theme. I’m simply saying it’s unlikely to be a rock/metal jam, or a song with vocals at all, for that matter.

Vega’s Trailer music… What is that Mass Effect/Dark Knight kind of stuff?

Sounds like it could have been from Two Steps from Hell. It’s nice, but nothing new. It’s probably for the trailer, I’m guessing Vega’s theme hasn’t been made yet.

Main menu theme is awesome.

I actually really liked TTT2’s music. The songs by themselves were good but they don’t fit the tone of Tekken. Maybe they’d sound better in an F-Zero game, but not Tekken.

As for SFV’s music, I’m not a fan. Too much progressive rock for my taste.

IMO you can’t really define the “tone” of Tekken since the series changed up its music style ever since the first game and went through more radical changes like T3 and T4

TTT2’s OST is great as is. Yeah, one can argue that the series goes into too much WUB WUB style, even incorporating Dubstep into the tracks (Tekstep Fountain and Falled Garden), but hey - at least the music in Tekken doesn’t stand still at one place locked up in one genre, and that’s good. Although so far T7 isn’t too far from TTT2 as far as the OST style goes, I still think T3 and T5/DR and T6 did the best job of combining guitar tracks and techno tracks in one game, they had a nice balance and combo themes

I remember thinking, “how the hell did they create this?So awesome” Then years later found out about Daws.
Looked back at it, and went damn. I used to bump this. But remix no jutsu didn’t get old though.

G3, G#3,G3, F3, G3, A#3 can not forget those first 6 notes. Dear god it cannot be unheard.

I hope they bring back the classic SF II intro theme I really miss that music, last time it was used was as Ryu’s MVC1 theme

After hearing each of the new music introduced, I can say the intro is just ok…The rift of the song is good for each piece BUT, to get to that part each match will have to last at least 25-40 seconds… with high damage from most characters I don’t think we will get to hear most of the rift of the song…Either slightly shorten the intro of the music or reduce the damage of some of the big damage characters so that matches last longer or do both…

Also, I’m not an expert in music…I’m just going by what I like from past sf games…specifically sf4, sf3, and alpha 3…

Just bring back the SF2 soundtrack and I’ll be one happy camper!

Hell no. I’m tired of SF2 themes and remixes. It’s bad enough they’re getting remixed yet again for the millionth time for SFV…

Call SF4 music generic

Want Alpha 3 composer

Ah, the coherence…

I thought that music was fun starting all the way back during Charlie’s reveal trailer. Seriously, what is the name of that music? Now? I have even more hope so I like all the stage music I have heard. And I did think that SF IV’s music overall sucked.

that was literally just generic “trailer music”, but it WAS good.

Capcom give me Tekken Tunes.

I have to admit some confusion on my part whenever I see people talk about how good Alpha 3’s music was. It was just… bland to me. Exactly as you said, the stage themes were just really generic.

There were a couple really good themes here and there, but they were far outnumbered by the mediocre ones.
