My two cents: I actually like all the music I’ve heard in SFV so far, especially the character select theme (which I first heard during the stream break and thought it was just a random song that they were using and I, no joke, started searching all over bandcamp to see if I could find it because I felt that would be a good starting point). I especially like that there’s a progressive rock feeling in the character select song. My biggest fear right now, however, is that they’re going to do remixes of character themes again instead of making new ones. Even if they do the alpha 3 themes, which are my favorite for a lot of characters, I want to hear NEW music instead of Ryu’s SF2 theme again.
The music sounds pretty awesome to me. Wayyyyy better than SF4. Why is this even a thread?!

Because the music in SF5 fucking sucks.
You can’t even hear it properly and from what i’ve heard it sounds better than sf4, which is probably your point of reference and if it is then it’s a fucking moronic one.
Sure, I’ll give it that it sounds better than SF4, but considering that SF4’s soundtrack was the musical equivalent of AIDS, that’s not really saying much.
There are numerous direct feed videos of the game now where you can hear the music quite clearly and it still sounds like utterly generic garbage. The Hong Kong and London stages are interchangeable because they have no musical identity. You could have one stage’s music playing on the other and it wouldn’t sound out of place. It makes no difference.
I can remember awesome tracks from sf2, sf3 and sf alpha, but nothing at all from sf4. And I didn’t even play alpha that much. So yeah, I hope they do better this time…
Don’t get your hopes up, apparently it is the same composer. With Sony backing them, they should have got John Williams or something.

Hell, with Sony backing them, they coulda gone with just about anyone, or brought back anyone:
Yuzo Koshiro – (for obvious reasons, though he’s done more symphonic/orchestra music recently, and hasn’t done any fighting game music AFAIK)
Takayuki Iwai & Yuki Iwai – (composers for X-Men:COTA, MSH, Darkstalkers 1 thru Vampire Savior, Red Earth, & SFA3, though neither are with Capcom anymore)
Hideki Okugawa – (co-composer & collaborator to all soundtracks w/Takayuki & Yuki Iwai, also all SF3 soundtracks)
Robin Beanland/Graeme Norgate – (composers of Killer Instinct & KI2)
Mick Gordon – (composer to KI (2013))
ANY of these Gods above (opinion) could have been an idea, and honestly, if I had the influence that Combofiend has, I would have fought tooth and nail to have them on the short list of soundtrack composers.

You can’t make that call until you hear all the tracks for each stage. It’s like saying the song on track 2 of ‘Darkside of the Moon’ can be interchanged with the the song on track 1 and you couldn’t tell the difference because you haven’t heard the entire album. But if you hear the entire album you’d probably realise that the song on track 1 is great where it is because it’s an opening track and the song on track 2 leads perfectly into track 3 and so on. So, you just can’t make the type of judgment call you made just yet.
From what I can hear in this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAgWJusqevk, London’s track has SF4 music elements but it’s not too bad, again, can’t hear it very well. Hong Kong is a 4/4 synthy rock thumper that keeps escalating towards a vocal near countdown end to further escalate the emotion, so that’s cool. Again, need to hear it properly. Most of the tracks seem much more sped up and rocky to go with the more intense fighting style.
The tracks are not generic like in SF4, there’s some identity to them, so I don’t think they’re so bad they deserve a hate thread.
IMO, the issue with SFIV’s soundtrack, specifically the remixes, is that they stay too close to the originals. So they just basically sounds like lazy modernized/EDMized mixes of classic tracks.
Compare Akuma’s SFIV theme…

One of the improvements from SF4’s music I noticed is the Results Screen theme. It’s kinda calm and I like the tune. SF4’s Results Screen theme is like a 5 second loop over and over again
Yuzo Koshiro
Oh my, that would be… just… orgasm
I hate the love affair with the DBZ style rock music that plagued SF4, so generic, so lame with the cheesy guitar riffs.
The jazz, dnb, and hip-hop mix in the SF3 series is far superior to that crap. And from the things I’ve seen of SFV, not too optimistic.
To be honest, I just want to hear more drum n bass songs. SF3 was really hip-hop, housey with a touch of jungle while CvS2 is straight up house music.
SF4 tried too hard to reinvent the character themes and as a result they end up sounding like really boring, white noise.

I’m not a fan of it. Sounds like a RPG victory fanfare… reminds me of the beginning of FFX-2’s.

[/quote]SFV should try and go for something like that! It sounds super chill.
I am still amazed that the man who gave us the greatness of the Chaos Legion OST can’t make something fitting for the SF series yet retain the epicness of his 1st work with capcom.

Except that in SF4 rock/guitars in general are present only in Character Select, as well as Fei Long’s, Adon’s, Hugo’s, Rolento’s, Yun’s, a bit on Rose’s, and Abel’s themes. 7 characters out of 44 have guitar riffs in them. Every other theme is either a shitty remix of a classic theme that either tries to do it in a completely different genre (compare the great Dudley’s theme from 3rd Strike to his theme in SSF4, ugh) or completely breaks the original tune and ruins the tempo (Makoto’s theme in SSF4), or it’s a lame generic orchestral tune, or a theme that turns the original version into a yawnfest (How the fuck do you turn Ken’s and Guile’s themes into such? HOW!?)
So I have no fucking idea what you’re talking about, or are trying too hard to troll
Also trying to judge SF5’s soundtrack based on literally 3 songs out of who-the-heck-knows-how-much. Excellent logic.

Actually you do. I think music from SF4 sucks. Not too hard to figure that out. You are arguing semantics and agree with me. Ok then. DBZ style to me is over the top, overly dramatic dogshit. It can be rock, it can be orchestrated, you know what DBZ music is, don’t be ignorant.

logic? This is a forum…with opinions. Get over it. Nobody is judging the soundtrack of SFV, they are judging the selection so far, and I didn’t say SFV’s music is shit or anything. I said i’m not optimistic. I know, so horrible. I bet you are crying because of my awful words. Get over it.
So here’s the logic for you, hopefully this is “easy” to understand for a guy like yourself, I know it must be hard but try your best, I’ll go slow.
SF4 music is shit. I hear a sample from SFV and am not impressed. So I figure I am not too optimistic. The end.
