Yeah still here just usually lurking I have a hard time keeping up the way this thread moves.
Is there a set number of points awarded for the TD or is that subjective and do you get the same points for sweep into dominant position as the other guy did for initial take down?
But it’s not highly subjective. I can do just as much damage to you walking away and you can coming forward. If you step forward…I step back. it’s spacing. You step forward, i step back, you step forward, i step forward and knee through your chest…like just walking around regardless of who’s going forward or backwards should have no bearing on the fight. But like i said…ring control is totally different. but honestly…and again i don’t have any real experiance or knowledge fighting in an octagon…how much ring control is there really? you can circle in there endlessly.
I don’ know the rules to grappling…maybe it’s not hard to get back up after being taken down. It looks like it is though…so if i guy takes you down (and i’m assuming if he does that he wants to keep you there) and you get back up…why shouldn’t you get atleast the same amount of points for that as he did for taking you down? or negate the points he got if he didn’t do any damage to you before you got back up?
i dont’ know…again i don’t know much about grappling. but i’m getting sick of seeing people just take a guy down and throw lame hammerfists that do nothing but annoy someone and get a win even though the other guy is actually working from the bottom. that’s why i stopped watching ufc back in the 90s because i got sick of watching 2 people lie on each other for 45 minutes straight. of course now i have more of an apprecation for the ground fighting…but the way it’s going now a days it still sucks.
IMO offense should be rewarded slightly above defense.
Going for a takedown landing it, and other dude pops right back up, the guy who got the takedown should get a slight edge.
And when I say slight, I mean slight.
If nothing else happens in the round, id still call it a draw.
Because id say the guy who attempted wins by half a point… but I round halfs down.
So, draw.
Walking forward > walking backward.
Slight again.
If nothing but dancing happens in the round, the guy who danced forward more id say wins by half a point.
But I round down.
So, draw.
But if you want to see the power of moving forward, check out anderson vs leben.
Leben is constantly moving forward, easily winning that round via octagon control.
Too bad he didnt reach the judges scorecard.
For like, the past 2 -3 years ppl seem to have forgotten that he does it, A LOT!
haha, but ppl like him cuz he is a cool dude, but he fucks up a lot as well as sayin silly shyt!
Well if your walking back but throwing strikes as another person just moves forward and does nothing but lumber forward then sure you should get points but you would get points for throwing and landing strikes. But that over simplifies it as well because if the person moving forward is also throwing strikes your back to it being subjective sure you can measure the number of strikes thrown/landed but the damage they do is a gray area and you have one person moving forward to engage which to many people is worth something.
And for taking people down and wanting to keep them there thats not always the case either. In some case the fighter wants to score points for the take down, get the dmg off the take down, depending on how it was done but not stay on the ground to avoid BJJ or go back to striking ect.
I think bottom line they need to overhaul the system because as it is now there is too much gray area. Like Black Jesus said some judges dont put any stock in leg kicks or sub attempts but take downs easily win rounds for people even if its only one. That being said I would not want the task of trying to score all the different factors in a MMA fight.
@Rock: Oh come on you dont think Leben as excellent head movement lol
hmmm i guess. But isn’t it also in your best interest to punch the other guy more than you get punched? why do you get points for that then? i don’t know, i’ll never truely understand cause i don’t grapple. Probably why i never understood why i was losing points in wrestling class in high school
that doesn’t prove that moving forward is anything. dude was moving forward and he got fucking massacared. Anderson proved exactly what i’m talking about. It’s a false sense of winning.
we only have to know japanese names for throws…cause i assume they come from judo or japanese jiu jitsu. i have no idea if this a norm since this is the only formal bjj class ive taken.
Wow tough to swallow that he cut Harris after one loss. Only thing I can figure is that he’s gonna start taking a much stronger stance on this whole down two rounds business. Seems like he’d rather see someone flinging themselves headfirst into punches than try and set something up, just so he can talk from his ringside seat about abstract concepts like heart and guts. He ought to love Leonard Garcia then, lol. Too bad Garcia and Leben can’t meet at some sort of catch weight, he’d probably give them both blowjobs after the fight.
Too bad this isn’t REALLY like the WWE. Throw his ass in the ring like McMahon, let his employees kick him around a bit. See how eager he is to fling himself headfirst into someone’s knees after that.
Harris still looked like amateur ass during that entire fight. Not saying he should’ve been cut, But he definitely shouldn’t of been on the main card.
and Todd Duffee controlled the fuck out of his 2nd fight until he got caught with one punch and fell like a sack of shit in the 3rd round. If it had gone to the judges he would’ve won all 3. They probably cut him just for losing to that out of shape fat ass who was probably on the verge of being cut himself.
