Also, my initail impression of the main event was Machida winning it pretty handily…but definitely gatta go back and watch it if mad people think Page won it (never been so happy to be wrong tho!

IMO, what makes most people think Machida won it is because the round that he won, he absolutely dominated in. Whereas the rounds that Jackson won could have arguably gone either way. I thought Machida won just because he got the better of the majority of the exchanges, even in the first two rounds; he just didn’t get touched as much as Quinton did.
It definitely wasn’t a robbery, even though I disagree with the decision. It’s more of an example as to why I think judging in MMA needs to be put under review: some things just don’t make sense anymore. The problem is that MMA is still becoming more and more mainstream, and changing things drastically (such as judging criteria) could alienate some of the denser fans, and at the end of the day it is a business and making money comes first.

I’ve had talks with people about the scoring in MMA. It simply needs to be more consistent. Take basketball for example. There are clearcut rules when fouls happen, when a shot is 1 point, 2 points or 3 points.
It really feels like the different judges are scoring based on their own personal bias/background. Some of em really value takedowns, especially at the end of the round whether or not the takedown lead into any offense worth speaking of. Some seem to give more credit to leg kicks while others don’t. The equivalent would be some guy shooting a 3 in basketball and the judge being like “hmm… he was wide open… im gonna give that a 2…”
Or like “wow, he really faked that guy out… extra point.”
So I guess making sense means I’m not chill?..OKAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
