The MMA Thread. BJ Penn Didn't Die #HeDeadThough

Please don’t start the back of the head thing again. I think that’s a stupid and pointless rule to begin with.

I’m still surprised at how well the Pride hype machine sold Fedor as this superhuman. It was bound to happen that he would get smashed eventually fighting todays HW’s. Fedor fans were and still are shocked that people are able to beat him nowadays and hes suddenly old and not in his prime now ( I disagree). Everyone loses at HW no matter who they are this will include Cain and JDS in time.

The UFC really could use a grander scale to their events like Wrestlemania has. I swear they make crappy wrestlers look like these superheros so it would be sweet to see something like that happen in UFC. Imagine what Mayhem or Anderson could do with a creative team helping them design their walkouts…GDLK.

Stupid and pointless rule? Rabbit punching can be fatal.

Are you trolling? I’d stop watching MMA if it became as contrived as pro-wrestling. Pro-wrestling is entertainment, nothing more. The wrestlers are actors. MMA is a sport, like/hate the fighters as you will, but they are themselves.

This.

Not sure what they want Condit to work on besides TDD and being aggressive off his back when GSP gets a takedown.

And if you call rabbit punching a “stupid and pointless rule” you need to get rabbit punched.

Your taking it too literally. I don’t want MMA to be all Brock Lesnar flipping off the crowd and all that non-sense but people love spectacles. Take the superbowl for example people watch it when there team isn’t even playing for the grandeur of it all.

I used wrestlemania because it has one guy entering a ring like he always does but makes it seem like this huge thing that is amazing and it would be cool to see entrances designed to be awesome like that for title fights in the UFC.

I want MMA to stay how it is but people are suckers for big grand entrances, that’s why Mayhem had so many fans even when he wasn’t that great of a fighter he was still featured because people love that showmanship. Hate if ya want but it would only help the hype and expand the fanbase of MMA.

Any blow to the head can be fatal that’s why I don’t get the rule. I don’t know that much about brain trauma and really don’t care to argue about it.

The point wasn’t even about hitting his head from behind more about the excuses. (see below)

I just think it doesn’t mattered where Hendo hit him Fedor was out, he lost, it’s over. The whole “he hit him in the back of the head no fair!!!” thing is crying over spilled milk and Fedor doesn’t need excuses he’s a legend that lost a fight it happens.

So yea someone needs to let him know that LOOKING like Alistair does not make you an mma fighter.

Clearly, lol. Suffice to say that blows to the back of the head are at a much greater risk of injury/death than elsewhere on the skull. It does suck to see fighters take advantage of the rule and leave nothing but the back of their head open, but you can’t just say “fuck dude, punch him in the back of the head!” The rule is there for a reason, and it’s a GOOD reason.

So you don’t like me because of my posts or because of the number of posts? Honestly I rarely want to post alot it just seems like everything I say gets picked apart a I have to defend myself.

Example: I could give two shits about rabbit punching or the rule and BARELY mention it in a passing sentence and the gets like three replies in 14 minutes instead of the main points of my posts.
Wanted to prove to my friend that I could get a reaction by certain people in this thread by saying something small and not important and get insulted and a reaction. Of course certain people fell for it like the haters they are.

People here just don’t like me because that doesn’t happen in any other threads I’m in. I mean yeah I get into arguments sometimes but people don’t hate like they do here. null

Right here there needs to be a rule where if they pull that shit it’s fair game on your dome .

I see your point about safety but yeah I hate when they do that shit you hit the nail right on the head.

Hey now, I love Diaz, dude is one of the most entertaining fighters in this sport…too bad he’s a moran.

Here’s a trick: Next time, put your ridiculous comments (in this case, implying rabbit punching should be legal) at the end of your block of text - that way you can potentially trick people into thinking it’s worth reading, before whipping out the Sherdogisms on them.

Also, just for future reference, if anyone even remotely believed your story about baiting out responses from “haters”, you do realize that they could report you for trolling and flame baiting, right?

Awesome - you can be the one other guy that I mentioned!
Do you visit Fark, perchance? (They’re heavy on the moran theme over there, which is why I ask)

Yup, exactly. It sucks that people exploit it, but it also sucks that people exploit the “no knees with 3 points on the ground” rule by leaving their fingertips down. (Granted, that rule is arguably much less justifiable than the rabbit punching, but whatever)
Rules are rules. Some make sense, some don’t, unfortunately.

Nope, hell’s that? lol, Fark…

covering up and leaving only the back of the head doen’t bother me. The rule that bothers me that I keep seeing get exploited is when guys are about to get knee’d in the face they drop down to a knee or place both hands on the mat to avoid it. I think they should tweak that rule.

EDIT: looks like Rampage said the same thing. . glad someone else agrees

lol - it’s a news amalgamation site. They just pick up on random news (and not-news) from around the world and make funny headlines about it, usually.

Good ole tire-flipper’s at it again.

Rogers fucked himself over with that stupid shit he did to his wife. Strikeforce was a good place to be and if they don’t continue to air on showtime he had a chance of being absorbed in the UFC. Oh well, thats what happens when you’re a dumbass

Really? You guys have no problem with abusing the hell out of a rule design for their safety? Especially because covering all but the back of their head is one of the things that prevents alot of finishes imo. Think about it: you finally got the guy down and broke threw his TDD, navigated pass his dangerous guard, and avoided his sweep attempts to take his back hell you even flattened him out.

You finally got your enemy right where you wanted and it’s payback time but then…he covers everything but the back of his head sitting there just screaming at you to cream him but you can’t. Instead you have to try a bunch of RNC attempts and work the body in the hopes of opening him up. You work and work and finally break threw, get your hooks in for the choke then the ref suddenly ends the round and you have to reset next round IF that’s not the end of the fight.

At least with the knees thing you can still generate some powerful liver shots, use the fact that his other hand is on the ground to score a free punch right to the face or at least get a takedown for massive points with the judges.

That’s the way I see it through oh well different strokes I guess.

Nah I bolded the part I wanted to be important and thought it was enough. I been reported for way less so it’s all gravy do you.

Plus I still think the rule is to abusable as is and would like it gone or at least changed so people cant wuss out with it or use as an excuse for their fav fighters lost.

I disagree with abusing any rule.
This is part of the reason why I dislike Frank Mir so much. He’s one of the main people I noticed tucking his head and curling up, and keeping three points down, back in the day.

However, I definitely disagree with removing a rule that can (and probably has, with some of the giants in the cage now) prevent deaths in a sport that is still having trouble being licensed in some places in the world.

I was there shooting when Fedor lost to Bigfoot Silva. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy to watch. And nothing more unnerving than the Izod Center being dead quiet from thousands of heartbroken Russians either.

Made you very nervous at the possibility of a riot.

Dana’s blogs are getting better I dunno if you guys have seen this but just a couple minutes ago thought about posting because things thread is slowing down due to lack of fights lately. I hope I don’t get infracted for embedding.
