Glad Aoki won because I like him, but there’s not really anything to say about it. He won a fight he was supposed to win easily.

We were actually discussing parameters for a Mauro Renallo drinking game last night, but couldn’t figure out how to impose limits on his overblown hyperbole in order to keep ourselves from dying. Speaking in really bad spanish phrases and use of the term “fistic fireworks” were definite drinks, as would be any case where he blatantly disrespects a colleague on air. Thoughts on this? You could try it out for the next Strikeforce card, might make listening to that asshole slightly more bearable as the card gets into the later fights.
Because Kawajiri got clipped doesn’t make the fight any less significant.
Lightweight is a more stacked division and Kawajiri being up there is more difficult than Diaz or Daley being top fighters. Just the facts. So if you’re gonna be an absolute douche at least know what you’re talking about.
Wasn’t so much mad as EXTREMELY disappointed.
Ever since Kawajiri won the Shooto title he’s been cursed. Losing every opportunity to prove he’s the best. Getting blasted by Gomi, then Alvarez (although that fight was fucking tits), and then Aoki. Finally, it seems like he has it all together again and get’s clipped. Kawajiri has an amazing chin too, I felt it was a little premature. Especially since they didn’t call it when he was down, so the elbow that just pushed his head somehow did a lot of damage? I’m not saying Gilbert wasn’t the better fighter tonight. But I think we all missed out on a great match between the two.
He still won the first >.< That’s what I gotta hang my head on… A poor decision!

forreal. i can’t stand this guy’s commentary. he’s worst than goldie. but great card by strikeforce, diaz is legit but he’s not P4P as some people claim he is. gilbert melendez is the fucking man though. i’m a huge fan of his and i would love to see him fight the other top LWs in the world. i think he’d be the underdog against edgar and maynard but not by much. i’d be rooting for him though.
Yeah man, no doubt - his single win in a row over Josh Thomson - who was on a whopping two-fight win streak against that one dude, and oh yeah, that *other *top-ranked guy :rolleyes: - DEFINITELY warranted a title shot, too, right?. 
Clearly the division is stacked, unfortunately just not in any of the organizations that he competes in. IMO, he’s better off taking his chances in Bellator, where he can beat a few shitty fighters before getting a chance to get KTFO’d by Eddie Alvarez again. That fight made Melendez look better than he is (not that he’s bad either), and now he goes on to significant fights, whereas… Kawajiri goes back to… where? Shooto and/or obscurity?
All the while Nick Diaz (T)KOs the striker that is supposed to knock him out, putting his win streak in double digits (with what, one decision?), and getting him well on his way towards getting snatched up by the UFC and painting him as a legit opponent for GSP, widely regarded as in the top 2 in the world, pound-for-pound, by anyone not still living in the time before the majority of Japanese fighters got exposed. Totally a meaningless match, no doubt. :lol:
Just because someone is Japanese or fights for a Japanese organization doesn’t make their fights any more significant. A lot of you what you say seems to point to you thinking otherwise. I’m not saying he’s a bad fighter, but he’s had his opportunities to show he’s the best, and like you said he’s failed all of them.
Separate note: Glad to see Renallo getting hated on. :tup: He deserves it. Next up, hopefully you guys all jump on the Schiavello hate train, too. There’s plenty of room!
