The MMA Thread. BJ Penn Didn't Die #HeDeadThough

The shit was obv fixed. You guys are blind

I propose we keep the Songo trolling to MMA only.

If you guys want to fight, just go to one of your gyms (assuming you both train), sign the waiver, and do it. Don’t forget to record it and post it on YouTube. Though I wouldn’t fuck with a 50lb disadvantage.

RE: Brown pride/racism etc., I understand how it can rattle (white) people, since unless you guys are Stormfront posters you probably are carefully taught to hide any references to race lest you say something unintentionally offensive and get fired. (I’m guessing here.) Suffice to say that there are a few reasons why Cain’s BROWN PRIDE tattoo is considered acceptable (compared to those neo-Nazi-related MMA gear brands that were banned from sponsoring UFC fighters a while back), and one of those reasons has to do with the legacy of pain, oppression, and exploitation that white people have inflicted on non-white people way back in the day. When that’s your history, things like that tattoo can mean a lot for you, your friends/family, and your community.

Especially when the guy with that tattoo is beating the living hell out of some Lost Vikings-looking motherfucker who said he’s gonna be eating burritos and drinking Coronas after beating the great Mexican hope.

Of course, there’s all kinds of other things going on here too (playing up race to sell tickets, for example). But that’s one angle.

yeah brock clearly lacks power in his ground strikes, hence mir and randy’s not knowing wtf was going on after enduring his GnP and heath herring’s face. and his ground control is obviously terrible which is why he was able to hold a black belt on the ground for the better part of 2 rounds.

I got a stack saying FPS and Songo hug it out in person before either one of them raises their hands.

…Does one of them train under Jake Shields? :stuck_out_tongue:

For me nearly 2 years, but it has not been my primary focus, just fun thing to do when training and shit.
Qualifications are not exactly firm but a sports background and some kind of prior ref exp is a plus(hockey here and yes i know thats the whitest thing said here in a bit)

Yall saying he has no idea what he is doing on the ground is fucking reaching… HARD…

Stan the person that happened to beat Lesnar some more…

^That was ten years ago and it’s a completely different kind of grappling than what you use in MMA.

Yea, he’s really a great puncher when fighting people who are way past their prime and outweighs them like crazy. Fact is, he can’t hit for shit, he landed a couple of hits on Cain and they didn’t even phase him. His punching technique is TERRIBLE, he just shoves his arm out and hopes for damage, his punches are more of a push than anything. I trained striking and grappling for a long time and brock is TERRIBLE at both. No head movement, cornering himself, flailing around when hit, having no base on his ground game, unable to pull guard, etc etc etc, I could go on an on listing brock’s weaknesses.

Lol someone’s a Mir/Carwin fan.
I have train for a while too bro and i admit he has holes but i have trained for a little over three years and i’m not ready to step into a strikeforce undercard let alone be the UFC heavy champ bro.

Stop being salty that a rookie went on a tear and will be back on a tear soon.

Until then i can get hype for Cain vs JDS as i really cant call this one.

4-2 is a tear?

Carwin would kill him in a rematch but lesnar would probably beat mir again. But Fedor, Werdum, Lashley, Ubereem and JDS would all obliterate lesnar.

I’m excited for the JDS/Cain fight though.

Brock does have good wrestling ability but he really lacks good grappling.

It is easy to confuse good grappling with good wrestling ability.

I try and separate them when training with people.

Wrestling is take downs, scrambling, power, being more athletic than the person.

Grappling is movement, controlling space, positioning, controlling a person.

apparently fighters suck the moment they lose (i.e. fedor), what they did beforehand becomes irrelevant. Yes i’m aware that I said brock sucked but only in this particular fight.
Brock sucked more than Caine impressed imo.

brock’s stand up is terrible, his ground game isn’t. for you to even say that it is makes you look silly. brock has shown the ability to control position and stifle cats on the ground.

Sorry but Brock’s ground game IS terrible. He has no base, turns his back to his opponents on the ground when getting hit, barely knows what a submission is and can’t fight off his back to save his life. That’s a BAD grappler, sure he might be a good wrestler but this is MMA. If not for Brock’s strength and weight he would never keep anyone down. The guy doesn’t even have the skill of a novice BJJ blue belt.

brocks bjj is clearly white belt if that…but that doesnt mean you cant have a career in mma without a ground game…just ask melvin guillard.

If brock wants to start winning again he’s going to have to get serious with training. His camp is full of fighters just like him, big, slow and no striking ability and yes-men. Whenever a fighter has total control of his own training and coaches it never turns out good (BJ Penn in the last couple of fights). He should take a year off and really start to take striking seriously, maybe some legit sparring will help him with his panic mode after being hit.

You’re crazy. Brock has excellent base. He was able to ride Heath Herring for 3 rounds straight, and Heath Herring (I’ve seen him roll) is extremely hard to hold down. Brock has more submission wins than “BJJ black belt” Rashad Evans. If you knew as much about the fight game as you say you do you would have seen how much skill went into that armtriangle he sank on Carwin. He turtles up when his head is taking damage, which is a normal fucking human reaction. The only dude that doesnt turtle when getting the shit beaten out of them is Big Nog, and now he has brain damage because of it. :shake:

Cain is probably the most technical heavyweight to ever fight in the octagon, so to use him as a reason to bash Brock is rediculous, since Brock has already gone through 3 top 10 heavyweights himself.

so he’s a bad grappler bcuz he got subbed…once…by a black belt? yeah ok…what happened in the rematch? the list of fighters than can’t fight off their back is quite long and includes more than a few good grapplers. oh and brock has managed to immediately get off his back every time he’s been put on it.

brock was surprisingly on his back alot in the cain fight…i thought that was weird. i dunno if he was out of it…but he didnt try to grab a hand or cain’s leg.

Mir, for some reason, looked complacent on the bottom in half guard, I never once saw him try a sweep, dumb shit from Mir but I don’t think Mir is near as good as most people think he is. Brock also had a really hard time grappling with Randy who’s only 2/3’s his size and 50 years old. Last night he showed that anyone with a good knowledge of grappling tries to sweep him then he can’t hold on for shit, Cain knocked him off him like he was 60 lbs because Lesnar threw all his weight forward trying to immediately pass guard instead of establishing a base and control. He’d probably do really well in a grappling only match but mix in getting hit in the face and any abilities he does have go right out the window. If he can learn to take a punch like every other fighter out there then he might have a chance to get the title again.
