I’m really surprised after watching the fight replay at how fast he threw out that kick. You see Anderson clearly looking down at vitor’s feet or knees and then he looks up right as he kicks and pow. Drops him on his ass.
Now to the triangle Anderson got on chael. I remember watching the fight and pretty sure Anderson almost went for the triangle three times in the earlier rounds. I kept telling myself that he was gonna land it and tap him out and he eventually did. Not so sure if I feel like it was his last trick in his bag. Even though time wasn’t on his side.
Honestly, I think it would be Silva vs Sonnen 2 if and when GSP and Silva fight. I haven’t seen GSP’s stand up in a loooooooooooooooong time. I think Silva would blast GSP to hell and back if they keep it standing. But GSP is a wrestler first and foremost.

Every other prominent ref in the UFC has had their share of ass moments. John McCarthy, Herb Dean, Josh Rosenthal, Dan Mirgliotta and so forth. Mazzagatti seems to be getting extra flak because Dana says he’s an ass repeatedly.

Can you really compare Jon Jones’ striking to Silva’s? Sure it might be a notch above the rest of the guys, but Jones usually just GNP’s with elbows. Silva is a weird dude to train for. His strikes are wonky and they catch people off guard. Look at poor Vitor. He thought he was gonna get kicked in the chess, instead he got a foot to the mouf.
Yeah. But you know, thats the one thing about MMA. You can’t train enough for a wrestler. Thank God Anderson has some jits, but I doubt it’ll be enough to keep GSP from honing in on a leg. Anderson will be fighting against time. The longer that fight goes on, the more it’s in GSP’s favor. If I was Anderson, I’d actually start a thai clinch as soon as possible. I think he can use his strength to lock GSP in place and unload on him.
I’m convinced that GSP would lose to Silva. I think he would make it out of the 1st but not too long after that. Even if people underestimate his chin has he ever been rocked like Sonnen was by some of Silva strikes in their fight? And Silva’s completely healthy too? And GSP is moving up? I’m not going to say GSP can’t win but I wouldn’t even bet my bus fare on him.
And people need to slow their row on Martian Manhunter. He’s good but we need to see him against an elite. Fortunately we’ll see next month.
EDIT: Apparently there’s a documentary coming out at Sundance that details Silva’s training leading up to the Sonnen fight that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt he was really injured going in. Dana vouches for it, but then again Dana is a loon.
