The Master Cook Book: Combos, Match-ups, and FAQs (Updated: Ultra SF4)

This is sloppy and a good abel will eventually punish but if im ever in a situation where im not sure what abel will do at close range, i just neutral jump lol. When i go to the arcade and blanka does wake up ultra and wins the crowd goes “wow good job, nice”, so then i do wake up ultra and win and get “…fucking scrub fuerte, doing wake up ultra” @_@.

Sometimes its best to just be patient: block, tech throws, and wait for your chance to escape with less risk. Fuerte lacks good escape options, so overusing ex guac and run will get predictable against good players and you will be punished for it. Backdashes actually help in avoiding some wakeup pressure, especially those who like to do command grabs on your wakeup, I tend to use them when I predict a throw of some sort. doing ex run after a backdash gives you a better chance of escape as you avoid being thrown out of your ex run.

In the corner, two more options help but should also not be overused to avoid predictability: good old wall jump works but be very careful as many Fuertes like to do that, so you have to find the right time to do it. Also, many players will think you will attempt a wall jump, so they will jump at you to get you, thats when you just slide under them  this works really well and frustrates a lot of players.

El Fuerte is quite good at getting out of cross up games, too. Ex run or just slide. He’s like the best trolling character there is. You just have to have fast reaction times to be able to use his speed to the fullest cause I swear there are times when I could punish someone in a few frames, but lack the reflexes to do it until it’s too late.

looking for a piece of advice. how do you handle a dhalsim in the first round? without EX bar it is a challenge finding a way in until you grind one out to "butter"run into mixups usually after giving away the free win in the first round. any reliable pokes or baits to work yourself in? even trying to land an ultra (spark) is difficult if the dhalsim doesn’t do something stupid like yoga flame or anything from sweep distance.

also what do you do on knockdown when dhalsim has yoga catastrophe unleashed. decent ones know fuerte’s wakeup is limited to EX-guac (into those loving limbs) or blocking on wake up and hoping to survive the 50/50 catastrophe game.

it is made more difficult since (the one i face regularly) knows to not fall into my teleporting baits. difficult match-up made worse since i never get to see this match-up on any videos

run to the very edge of the map, throw out lk. quacs till you have enough meter. The dhalsim match up is really stupid you just have to get the life lead and let him come to you, dont get cocky and jump in. My strategy usually consists of get 2 meters ex run through limbs and slide then commence to turtle for the next 70 seconds

yeah that’s about how i end up doing the match from my end, too. i do have to learn to be patient there because we tend to simply stay on our sides of the screen just waiting for someone to fall asleep. him tossing yoga fire and my guaccing over them. i barely have the patience for 1 meter, 2 would be a miracle since guac gives so little in comparison to dhalsim’s specials.

the match really is as dumb as it sounds in theory. if i can get in, the match is mine. if he keeps me out, the match is his. the only thing that keeps it from being guaranteed when i get in is dhalsim’s excellent super. i was kinda hoping there was a limb punish or some q-bomb trick i hadn’t figured out.

His super is good but it shouldnt keep you out that badly, you just need to hit him enough to get the lead.
You’ll find that a good fuerte has a lot of patience, truth be told its more beneficial to see how your opponent reacts a turtle fuerte,
you’d be surprised how impatient people can be when they dont have the life lead.

normally i can make someone lose patience before mine. but the dhalsim i currently play is an old pro from the Super Turbo days, so at the very least he is used to zoning and playing dhalsim as you’d expect and is able to hit links and stuff to keep us honest. very solid. all i can do is to keep playing against dhalsim as it’s the only real match i have that is 50/50 depending on who’s having a better day. luckily the practice will be there during local weeklies. just need to get it to be more consistent. we’ll find out as i get more matches in and force him to switch to seth as all dhalsim’s eventually do :stuck_out_tongue:

the super only keeps me out because it’s real easy to combo into after a quick hit. low lk slide --> super. back mk–> super. yoga flame–> super. being able to land it consistently and have it do large damage does well to keep me from going nuts.

once i’m inside though is it really beneficial to run away (as fuerte) after a couple of hits and gaining a slight vitality lead? i generally try and keep the pressure on for as long as possible in such a situation and this usually means staying in there until KO, at least vs an opponent without a “get-out-of-jail-free” srk at hand to immediately turn the tide at a psychic dp/auto correct magic. last thing i want to give dhalsim is space.

I keep the pressure till i feel the opponent is getting wise to my ways or if he somehow escapes, you just gotta know when to back off. Dhalsim doesnt have many ways to get in and fuerte can turtle just as hard as any dhalsim.

If Dhalsim jumps backwards at like midscreen and uses j. hp you can dropkick his hands and get a free knockdown then you can get up on him. Also if Dhalsim is grounded he really doesn’t have an answer to walljumps.

Here are the videos between me and Boba, there’s more but they’re uploading. One I didn’t upload because it refused to upload >_>:

That’s basically all of them. I’ll watch these on my iPod throughout the day to critique us both. We also forgot to taunt more D:

If find this to be untrue. back+RH beats (or trades) with everything and depending on how close to the corner the opponent is, he can IAT into giving out some damage. walljumps you’d just have to try and fakeout and hope the opponent doesn’t smell it, but dhalsim does have stuff. he’s not free like hakan or non-EX blanka.

I hope im posting this in the right thread.

Here are the vids of a money match i had last week against a chun player, Skullator. He was the #1 chun on PSN in terms of BP for a while, not sure if he still is.

Im used to 1-2 frames of lag (apparently) And given that this setup had no lag whatsoever, i found myself inputting things a bit early, and dropping HEAPS because of it. (The only half decent RSF i land, i went to stop and reset with a FA, but inputted the stop command too early, fucked up the input, and ended the RSF with a friggin gordita sobat >_>) Time to break out my old CRT i think. :stuck_out_tongue:

No excuse for my THREE retarded random ultras though. Im pretty ashamed of those TBH.

And i dont normally splash this much, but there was a dude in the crowd yelling “SPLASH MOUNTAIN” the whole time, and as a fuerte player, we cant let the fans down now can we? (Not only that, but it was working, and money was on the line, so i whored that shit out.)

Anyway: BIRRY WONG (EL) vs SkullatorNZ (CH) First to 5. $100 money match. (Were poor in New Zealand. $100 for us is actually a fair bit of cash)

Result Me 5 - Him - 3.

Not too happy with how these ended up TBH. I won, but i got REALLY predictable, did a shit ton of uncharacteristic scrubby shit, and got scared to push my offense late in the match, which is where my game personally is at its strongest. But i would love some critiques. I think i have a really good grasp of what i did wrong, but i would greatly appreciate a few more pairs of eyes, in case i missed anything.

I would rate my play in these about a 6/10 compared to what im capable of. But yea, these are the only videos of me that have been recorded in the last couple of years, so i figured ill throw em up. Despite them being moments of magic in a sea of scrubby crap.

But yea. Please guys, bust my balls on this. But dont say anything about those ultras. Id prefer to forget they ever happened.

nice stuff Birry, i really like how you implement cross up jumping fierces and cr. mk loops

that chun was really mindfcked

:)))

didnt c this posted yet but meatly slide goes under dee jays up kicks. corpse hopping him on every knock down and alternating beween meaty slide and tortilla pretty much beats his options.

I mean like if you just jump of the wall not if you go to attack him I know that knee move is a good AA. I think fajita can even beat that though.

aight so i need some help on armor cancel ultra 2. its not how to do i need help in but how to get it to connect in the corner. ive working with it in matches all of today and if my back is to the corner and someone jump @ me i have problems. teh ex flash comes out and the ultra activates but then the ultra will whiff past the person. anyone has any ideas on what i can do to correct this problem.

also some MU info ive learned today, do not armor cancel ultra 2 against t hawk and dhalsim. t hawk can trigger the os with condor spire and then the ultra will wiff and dhalsimn can jump and trigger the os with jump FP, which also makes the ultra whiff.

I think the best solution is to not get caught in the corner lol, i think the angle they jump at you is awkward when you’re in the corner.

Hola!

Some help “to escape” from Abel pressure mixups?, just block & tech does not work very well if he does a tornado throw etc, maybe ex guacamole helps to escape, but it’s not safe anyway, also Abel rolls confuses a lot.

Some tips amigos?

See you!

Just block and tech throws late, that means on reaction not on prediction.

Jump when you predict a command throw, J. Fierce xx RSF

:wtf:
