That doesn’t even make sense… I fully support the Beating Elf thread, since I don’t want to just get flowchart, auto-pilot wins against my opponents… That’s not how I play. Surely wanting wins by using a set strategy you hope your opponent doesn’t know how to counter is a little more flowchart-esque?
Seriously, after all your arguing, how can you say that? I’m baffled that you just wrote that.
Guys lets get back on topic please, this is a matchup thread…
I have a question on the Rufus matchup, what is a good reliable normal to stuff his dive kick? I have had some success with cr.fp but sometimes it seems to miss and I eat a big combo as a result (not sure if its mistiming on my end or hitbox issue). dropkick seemed to work but not as well as in vanilla. One thing I tried the other day is to do Qbomb on reaction, seems like it can stuff it or trade but if Rufus goes for a very low dive kick, he will recover in time to block and punish. Any advice on proper timing to counter his dive kicks will help as I am very lacking in this
EDIT: I read the advice written on how to counter Rufus dive kicks on the first page before I posted, and the OS with lk guac seems like a great counter when he is in your face, but my question is more addressed to the situation when he is still trying to close in on you as opposed to already applying mixup pressure upclose. Just trying to see if there are different ways to counter it in mid range.
Standing MP is under rated. It has more range them cr mk and literally slaps opponents out of alot of things. It’s been handy versus blanka balls. I think it’s active for longer then it looks.
I have 2 question actually. What is a good way to consistently beat Zangief’s headbutt? Next being is there a normal or a position to constantly beat lariat?
Once I figure this out I think I’ll be a bit better against gief. The usual giefs I play are simple enough. They spam lariat and mash SPD. Tortillas Quesadillas and clock killing do the trick for them.
But I admit I clam up when they got the headbutt down.
Airthrow is not reliable for the headbutt. And jumping off the wall at the wrong time can get you headbutted to.
Dropkick from round start distance beats green hand.
I feel a real important thing in the match up is:
bait (ex) green hand for free throw on block (waste meter, lose a get out of wakeup game card)
mix up dropkicks, stand Mp and Quesadilla at poke range.
Watch for obvious spd buffers. (jumping, dashing, crmk crhk far st hk, intentionally whiffed green hand)
it’s his 50-50 that sucks. He’s the guy I love running under instead of wall hopping on.
Best thing he can do to ruin your flow is double German suplex instead of spd. Damage and on top of you for 50-50s.
Against rufus’s dive kick i wouldnt risk cr.hp it comes out slower and you dont wanna risk a counter hit, id stick with s.mp since your goal is to make some room, not do damage.
Zangiefs headbutt is stupid, whenever i try to quac it at what seems a good position it trades, so ijust let them headbutt and ultra if im close enough just try to avoid it honestly lol, slide should beat lariat just make sure you do it early in case he does quick lariat. Ex Green hands are your friends, with u2 even if he cancels out of it, if you reversal it catches him so you just made him waste 3 bars and he ate ultra
Yea I try to never counter gief’s headbutts in the air, not worth the big risk imo. best way is to bait it and punish (ex guac will eat it, and both ultras can punish it). wall jumping on gief is generally a bad idea so try to keep it on the ground. Once you get U2 ground is even more of your friend than ever.
Gief I feel is definitely one of the runs you have to keep down on the ground aka mixups are more vital than usual. Another thing is that being in the air with Gief is the last thing you want to do. Then there’s how he shuts down most of your okizeme with U2.
yeah giefs one of those matches that every time I’ve been beaten I feel like … damn man my ken would have ate that gief for breakfast
my ken isn’t as solid as my Fuerte but its much easier to keep people out with em =p
But yeah gief I honestly don’t know wtf to do against him
If I get him on the ground do I attempt tostada’s and tortilla’s? One blocked crRH = SPD
a wiff tortilla = SPD
a focused tostada = I don’t even wana think about it
if the gief doesn’t know what he’s doing Its an easy win if the gief knows anything at all I feel like I’m up shit’s creak
I mostly feel this way because for me fuerte’s footsie’s are none existent and I only know how to zone / footsie gief out as my main strat
but with a character like Fuerte when I think … zone / footsie gief I draw a blank.
What haters do you people have to deal with? I know I act a little kooky around my friends but I get nothing but hate from shitty players. I shouldn’t be scared about getting jumped just because I’m good at playing my character.
Here’s a little run down of what happened tonight.
After a quick little drive to an arcade I don’t normally visit I sit there and rack up the wins with El Fuerte. The arcade was alive and highly populated at around midnight, fast forward two hours later I’ve spent about $.75 and racked up a couple 20+ win streaks. I have been completely silent the whole night, haven’t taunted or did anything to aggravate others aside from styling on them with flashy combos.
By the time it was 2 am the arcade was closing and there was nothing but some Armenian guy I’ve played a couple times, his friends, and my friend who is playing 3s on the other side of the arcade.
After completly dominating this Armenian Sagat player he goes to get quarters, passing me but abruptly stopping to have this conversation with me. Mind you this is word for word how this went down.
I assure you I did this all with a smile on my face only with the intention to help him and I was prepared to ask him if he went to Shoryuken and if he did, to visit my Beating El Fuerte thread, but after a threat I simply walked up to my friend and asked if he’d like to leave.
While we were leaving the arcade (They were closing) him and all his buddys were waiting outside talking then they were all silent as they all looked at me, I have a feeling things may have been worse had my friend not parked directly outside of the entrance.
I don’t like people like this, and believe you me- this was not the first time this has happened (it is with this particular individual, but not in general) [P.S. Around a year ago I went to the same arcade, beat him, and with a smile on my face looked over only to see him throwing a chair]
(I pretty much beat him by doing RSF, feinting after ~5 hits, FA level 3 to another ~5 hits for the stun into a big 10+ RSF ending in super. Also my roundhouse button was broken T_T)
Haters are going to hate.
POS scumbags are going to jump you if you are better than him.
Thats a whole new level of haters, still a bit shocked at how extreme that guy was being threatened like that in real life just for a game is something I never experienced so I honestly don’t know what to say… he thinks choosing a chef as your favorite character is stupid but threatining someone over a “video game” is not?!.. very hopeless case.
Its very unfair, being good with Fuerte should earn you praise in an ideal world, but we all know how the world we live in sucks so much. I guess the best you can do for now is to stick to some buddies, since it looked like ur friend being there helped quite a bit. I am not the confrontational type myself, so having a good friend besides me who does well in confrontations will help a lot in making me feel safer, in case I ever come across people like that.
@El_Toro: I assume you meant if its possible to punish a whiffed ex headbutt with U1 through option select, after something like safe tortilla right? I tested it quickly and seemed that its not possible since ex headbutt seems to take Honda out of the max range of U1. Don’t recall seeing anyone doing that either. Best way is to corpse hop to make him lose the charge.
I never thought that it was that bad for you, Papel. I had no idea. If you’re going to be out at that hour, bring a friend or two with you. There is power in numbers after all. At the same time, do something that I currently don’t have the opportunity to take: Self-Defense classes, especially if you can get MMA (you even learn wrestling moves) or try to learn specific techniques that you might know as Hapkido. Unfortunately, I’m rather rusty on the latter.
