The Martial Arts Movie Thread 2017 Donnie hates his fans

After watching Skin Trade I really just saw more of the same. From both MJW and Jaa. its like they fight the exact same way in their movies now, which is cool, but at the same time its like they have become complacent in their films. Also Jaa should not talk in his movies, it is soooo embarrassing.

Adkins, Crump, Uwais and Zaror are some of the new guys I think are actually adding something new to martial arts films.

True Adkins isn’t new, but he is more a part of the newer generation? Apparently Crump may be in the new Star Wars as well, which is hype. The cats from The Raid as well. Yen joining them would be on point. What would be dope is if they were all sith though.

the light side has been catching martial arts l’s since the phantom menance. its time for them to beef their side up with some non cgi ninjas.

So today is "Martial Arts"Monday. Figured I’d share a vid from my FB martial arts movie group.

Dope Bolo Yeung tribute.

Adkins is almost 40. He’s been around a while doing stuff, just hasn’t gotten recognition until fairly recently.

By the way, if anyone here who hasn’t seen Undisputed II, III, and Ninja II Shadow of a tear?

#1- Shame on you.

#2- Go watch them now. Those three are like the BEST Direct-To-Video martial arts flicks EVER made. I was shocked at how well-made each were, and the quality of their fight scenes.

The first Adkin’s Ninja flick was also pretty decent but, Ninja II really DELIVERED.

I really like Adkins, aside from dubious beginnings being typecast as Van Dammes replacement, he has masses of potential, big solid looking white guy, handsome as fuck and has serious moves, but meh, he aint getting that good work for some reason. Also wow I fought Ninja 2 kinda sucked. Not that there was anything particular wrong with the movie the whole premise and betrayal thing was kinda dumb imo.

Looking forward to Wolf Warriors and Undisputed 4, just too see him back on the roids and doing somersaults knocking niggas off the planet.

Edit: Marvel shoulda got him to do Punisher, then all would be well in the world. :triumph:

lol im wondering how adkins health is…he got injured during ninja 2 and most of the cool stunts were done by brahim.

He was in Zero Dark Thirty for 5 seconds, dude was a guard that gets blown up lol.

didnt expendables come out before ninja 2

You think Adkins would have been a good Frank Castle? I am trying to envision it, but Its hard. I just don’t see him as this gruff weathered type of guy. I wouldn’t mind seeing him, Marrese Crump and Marko Zaror doing some work with the Netflix Marvel stuff. Maybe Crump as Blade, Patriot or Gentle? Adkins as Bullseye? Zaror as… White Tiger, Rictor or Black Tarantula?

I mean with the Iron Fist show coming out, I am certain they will have a good amount of martial artists in the episodes.

ninja 1 came out in 2013…expendables 1 came out in 2010

ive seen jacked broly adkins and skinny adkins…neither really looks like frank. hed make good to be someone on his team or sumtin.

messed the dates up expendables 2 is 2012 and ninja 2 is 2013. so his health is still kinda a curious question.

Hes built, black hair, about 6’2 and can look seriously menacing. Hes done the gruff weathered type of guy in 80% of his movies, hell even in Ninja 2 he spents most of the time as the Punisher without guns. Its a moot point obviously but I think it would be better, plus you know if any hand to hand shit goes down Adkins has the goods for it.

He defo should get a part in some Marvel shit, kinda waste of opertunity otherwise. Wheres Furious at and dem World Warrior updates anyway, I wanna see him with a blond mohawk type fucked up hair do. @maxx jacked broly adkins

Regeneration got a sequel? Like how? :expressionless: IDGAF Ill never watch that pos, am writing that movie off already and I just learned of its existence.

2012…why are you askin me very googlable questions. your the fuckin first nigga to tell people to use google.

An brief view of the Kickboxer remake movie poster.

Lol I was just searching for a trailer for it, its gonna be atrocious.

Goodbye sweet childhood memories.

yeah I think its gonna be quite terribad. I think there is gonna be a weird drought of MA films for a while. I know Raid 3 won’t even start filming until 2018, but I think Uwais and company will be in other films.

The action reel of Chris Yen, the sister of Donnie Yen (I didn’t know he had a sister, though I had to level up on my actor knowledge). The track played in the end (X-Ecutioners feat. Mike Shinoda and Mr. Hahn of Linkin Park - It’s Going Down) felt a bit nostalgic for me, but I guess it’s because it was Linkin Park and reminded me for my PS2 days (Tekken 4, anyone?).

Honestly I blame the UFC, either since the casuals came out and it won kinda mass appeal, a lot of the MA in recent movies is nearly as boring as the fucking sport. Its like really? We wanna see dudes hugging? Naw nigga show me that Tatsumaki damnit.

Also when the Shaw brothers gave up, Hong Kong gave up, we didnt get the good anymore (like legit shit like the Police Stories etc) and we didnt even gave the bad stuff (the No Retreats No surrenders, which were B movie awesome). Cannon died, the vetern MA stars got old. A void was created and not replaced. MMA style fighting movies came out, guys going soft and happy about shit like Haywire being dramatic vehicles for bitches with no acting skills. Meh we on a slope.

Why am really hype about asformentioned dudes like Adkins who have that old school vibe, and to a certain extent Daredevil type shows where I dont mind too much of that tricking bullshit as long as they can show some weight behind their moves.

In a nutshell, the good MA days are over baby, we need to let china do another 10 years of their periodic shit before it will get better aside from the odd fluke once in a while, ie The Raid.

Honestly Green Street 3 could have been dope, if it was a darker feel. Like if Gareth Evans (Merantau. Raid series) had a hold of it, I think it would have really been decent. Like if it were filmed like Luther, with a more grimy feel to it. I like Adkins a lot though. But I am mainly pulling for Marrese Crump and Marko Zaror. Crump because I actually have gotten to know him and he is a really good dude that works very hard and has the talent to match. Oh and he trains kofi Kingston, lol. Zaror, because I loved him in Undisputed 3. Salty he jobbed to Danny Trejo’s old ass in Machete Kills, but at least he got some recognition.

Also Buakaw in Thongdee the Warrior.
