The Martial Arts Movie Thread 2017 Donnie hates his fans

Statham has been pretty underrated i regards to his skills. They always try to make him some car driving type of dude, but it you remember Transporter 1, he was handling cats in those fight scenes. Hopefully him and Jaa will decimate all in Furious 7.

I dunno I always thought his skills were pretty great but his movie selection was shite. I mean hes probably at world class kickboxer level and has a purple belt for BJJ under Renzo Gracie, nothing to sneeze at. 50% of the movies Statham has been tho are so bad that they make my ass bleed when I try to watch em.

The dude has done very well for himself, he had zero acting experience prior lock stock, he might have been in plenty of sub par movies but he always gives a strong performance.
I would love to see him in a Marvel or DC comic role.

I first remember seeing Statham in Ghost Of Mars starring Ice Cube. It’s weird but that movie wasn’t spectacular but it was entertaining.

the more recent statham movie where hes like a former military officer who moves with his daughter to a small town and faces james franco is dope. alot of unexpected martial arts stuff.

Watching Wild Card now. not bad so far. The first fight scene clocked in at 40 minutes into the movie. I couldn’t call it a fight scene though. It was more so like a situational scene on how to disarm three guys.

Okay, the casino fight scene was pretty legit. Wish it was a bit longer, but it was pretty dope.

Jean-Paul Ly who stunt doubled as young Gouken put together a Bond inspired short

Just realized how much he looks like Ryo Hazuki

so i grew up on zerogravity stunt team. back in the late 90s/early 2000s they def spearheaded the indy martial arts short scene along with the stunt people. now we got both groups coming together for a stunt movie and a few trickers i know. i am soooo beyond excited for this. my childhood remixed.

Posted this in the movie thread, but it relates to martial art cinema as well.

Agree with most of his opinions, still not a fan of shaking cam though.

Scott Adkins has a new film on the way

The Die Hard one was defo on point, after the third they should have called it quits, hell Schwarzneggers Commando was the sequel to Die Hard at one point, thats when you know they were bound to go 3000 different ways of fucked up. The 4th was pretty shit and well they found a bigger dick than Justin Long to be his sidekick in the 5th, just smfh. Didnt watch past that though although Jacky Chan made the best point of why shaky cams are just crap in general.

Adkins trailer lol, we gonna believe a bunch of narcos are hanging out and theres not 1 gun amongst em? Sure as fuck aint the Sinaloa boys haha. Ill expect it will be the same kinda cheese of that Ninja sequel calibur. I dunno why I cant get onboard with this dude hes got the looks and the moves but I cant go 90mins without thinking am watching some straight up bullshit.

I’m actually impressed by this, all the other stuff just felt same old same old, he’s actually doing something that feels somewhat fresh. Kind reminds of Van Damme, he was the go to guy if you wanted to see spinning kicks. Shit, even Tony Jaa suffers from that.

Common dawg Adkins is the new Van Damme, like I bet his first couple of team ups with him was like a dream come true and he just went 100% emulation. And why not it works, it looks cool and hes good at it, its just the general vibe from the movie, even that trailer it just comes across a bit strong on the B movie front, he needs to fire his agent and work with better people.

Found out the synopsis.

And its directed by the guy behind Ninja and Undesputed 2, that was a given cause the fighting seems nearly identical from what was shown (camera work giveaway). I dont wanna sound like a hater lol, I will watch this when its out but I doubt this is gonna be a movie ill talk about much after seeing it. Will be happy to be proven wrong.

damn they got a teaser already. i saw it got finished just a week or two ago

Like I said earlier, 40 minutes before the first ā€œfightā€ scene. Not a good look at all. Movie was okay, but it was really in need of some more action scenes.

looks like they just lifted a scene straight from the movie to be fair.

edit: vid has been taken down

I was watching Death Warrant last night. Now that I’m older, that movie was corny but entertaining. LOL!!!

its sad how bad action films are in comparison to 20 years ago

I still think Enter the Dragon is the best martial movie. Nothing can compare to that movie.

Way of the Dragon is my fav Bruce Lee film & probably my fav MA film of all time.

yea Way of the Dragon is probably my fav Lee movie as well and defo in my top5 list.

Although… at 3min mark…

Yuen Biaos machine gun kick holy fuck lol, makes me wanna watch this movie a lot.
