If he gets another movie like John Wick I would say yea. Movie showcased a lot of good MA imo, if they had written out Willem Dafoes character and removed some of the bullshit gunplay then it would have been a lot better and sensible but meh I enjoyed it.
I thought it was fairly mediocre, only a couple of good scenes like the home invasion, and I think I laughed at quite a few of the jokes, probably would have been pretty good if they went more with the dark humour, Keanuâs stiff acting style suits comedy, we need another Grosse Pointe Blank. Horrendous CGI for a movie with a $20M budget.
I didnât mind Dafoe. I think if anything they should have made him more like the old school contractor or something that may have taught John some stuff. The gunplay was cool, but I liked it when he used his bare hands, like the way he bodied that one dude after said dude kicked his ass in the club (brutal ass choke out).
I mean it beats the fell out of all these old dudes running around beating up gangsters and what not.
It was just the way the story was structured that irked me, Dafoes character was like an old friend, didnt even get a mentor vibe from him, he was just there and shit happened cause he was there. That was time that coulda been spent with Reeves tossing more random goons through windows. Shitty gunplay I refer too is actually specifically the sniping scenes. They were all terrible.
Reeves character was meant to be some ungodly awesome assassin yet he had pals everywhere, common. Story coulda worked out better but as far as a vehicle for move Reeves on the path to redemption I think it worked, he just needs to stay the fuck away from asians like I think ive already said here somewhere lol. Also Furious is just hating cause Green Street 3 was dogshit.
Well he was pretty out cold. The thing I got was that with the hotel and stuff was more so having to do with the assassin community I guess? Like the folks he saw were just cats he knew in the game. But I dig what you are saying, Dafoe could have been written more like a mentor (like Bruce Willis in Lucky Number Slevin) or not at all. There were a lot of people who knew how ridiculous he was but I didnât really get that in a few parts. Like in the Equalizer, I donât think they were able to do anything to Denzel. So I was a bit disappointed to see Wick get bodied in the club by one Russian.
Was his fighting martial arts flavored or just âimma fuck you upâ style? And was he stiff and awkward like in the first Matrix movie and Man Of Tai Chi?
It was more so âIâm gonna fuck you up in the most efficient way possibleâ. His acting was stiff but you can tell he used some of the tin manâs oil in those joints, so the fighting wasnât as stiff. I think if he keeps practicing he will be even better. This style suits him well. If you wanât I will PM you the movie later today.
Thatâs ok, I can find it. He was moving like he knew what he was doing in the second Matrix movie, doing actual spinning heel kicks instead of stiff spinning crescents, as well as actually getting his hips involved in punch and block exchanges. Then it looked like he slacked off on hisâŚeverything, when you see his fight scene in Man of Tai Chi. Not surprising if those rumors of him not bathing or changing clothes and sleeping on park benches were true.
Keanu a vagabond? I know people snapped phone pics of him riding on the subway like he was going to a regular job but I just thought itâs because he wasnât trying to be âhollywoodâ.
I mean Keanu most definitely can become decent in martial arts movies, I think his best bet is to start working with folks in the industry. Star meeting up with stunt teams and really taking advantage of the connects he has already made (Tiger Chen and Iko Uwais) and learning from them. Honestly I think he could really benefit from meeting up with Joey Ansah and Gareth Evans. Two different styles, but they both are good and show him some different perspectives
I wouldnât go that far. Hard Boiled is a classic. John Wick is good for what Keanu has been doing lately, and it shows that he has developed a bit and doesnât showcase some of his trademark stiffness. It was a good move for him, but Hard Boiled is on another level of the âHeroic Violenceâ genre.
Lundren, Jaa, White, Perlman and ofcourse the mighty Peter Wellar. Oh yea the only asian guy in the world aka Cary Tagawa is in it too. Bring this cheese on.
Iâve not watched Brotherhood of Blades, but judging by the trailer I suspect one might need some general knowledge of Ming Dynasty politics to make sense of the story. Also the term âImperial Assassinsâ that was used in the English subs were in reference to the Ming Emperorâs personal elite warriors aka éŚčĄŁčĄ (literally âbrocade-shirt-protectors/sentinelsâ) who werenât allowed to take orders from anyone except the Emperor himself. Story may be easier to understand with this in mind.
Although technically a thriller this movie deserves a mention here since the assclowns that comprise our community wont have a chance to see it otherwise, plus it showcases some real and I mean real bone crushing MA courtesy of Jason Stratham. There is 3 scenes where people just get fucked up badly and it is beautiful. Its a remake of the 80s movie Heat starring Burt Reynolds and its basically an exact copy, play for play. The OG was epic and am happy to say this movie is pretty class as well. Also am taking the work out for yall so there is no excuse, link below. HDrip.
