The Martial Arts Movie Thread 2017 Donnie hates his fans

Here is a really cool short. It is giving me a lot of ideas as to how I want to film my short film.

Not bad, but I’m really not a fan of that shaky camera and random close shots. It’s kind of disorienting and I can’t see what’s happening half the time. Plus I think that’s just an old trick to make up for whatever they are lacking to make the fight exciting, isn’t it?

I hate shaky cam with a passion because the story they piece together doesn’t convey the conscious activity within the kinaesthetics.

Surprisingly we saw The Hunger the other day and the shakey cam was actually good, it consistently conveyed the moment correctly. I boycotted the film for ages but fuck they actually know what they’re doing :wtf:

Yeah i like it when panned out more…Where you can see all the action. The only time this has worked for me was Legend of the Wolf. The short was still pretty decent.

I am really big on the panned fight scenes as well. I actually found a few Kung Fu dvds in my storage, so I will probably watch those for inspiration. Also this indie music store in my neighborhood has a free box and one of the guys who works there has been giving away his martial arts movies, so I got a dvd of Guy With the Secret Kung Fu recently. So I have a huge backlog of movies that I need to watch.

The new trailer to The Raid 2: Berendal!!! Yeah I am officially over hyped for this film.

Raid 2 looking brutal. Can’t wait.

Consider me hyped!

Was that mad dog or at least his actor I saw?!

He’s… practicing his Hokuto Shinken on the wall image? Daaaaaaaaannnnnngggg

yes it was. He is back as a different character.

Prett cool concept, though I was expecting a bit more.

it wasn’t perfect but the end fight looked fine to me. i don’t know which part your specifically talking about.

Just for laughs…

not saying it wasnt a good fight…people are commentating they were rough on eachother. i was watching he fight just last weekend and noticed how far away they punched from eachother. thats all im commenting on…that they werent rough.

I guess that depends on how people see things. It definitely looked rough to me.

Maxx, what parts specifically looked bad because my memory is hazy but I do recall that being on hell of fight, especially for it’s time. Comparing it to pro wrestling is pretty bad.

Break it down for us since you are in the industry.

i didnt say it was bad. just not rough as people imply…especially in the first part of the fight. i cant really explain it but its clear how much they pulled back to me.

Im curious on what fights dont hold back to you Maxx, Meals on Wheels look really brutal. If i remember awhile back i think they interview them saying they actually did light contact & used padding to make it as realistic as possible.
